I was in San Antonio the past couple of days and didn't have a chance to respond.
Thanks for the reply and suggestion and most of all the pictures are great.
I was considering a Powered AMP as well, Focal has a decent one, but there are others. I was even thinking about bulding a small box on 1" feet with a JL 6" pointing downwards located in the cubby right behind the drivers side. I use the passenger cubby as it is easy to reach, but I do not use the Driver's side, so I was looking at this as an option. 6" fits perfect and the JL product is fantastic for it's size. But again still undecided.
SO far here is what I have purchased it's all sitting in my bedroom at the moment.....
1 x Kenwood DNX 5140. 1 x Focal Speakers with tweeters. 1 x Alpine pdx 4.150. 1 x JL 61/2" Sub. NO BOX yet. 2 boxes of Dynamat. IPOD adaptor, Bluetooth adaptor....still awaiting the Sirius adaptor.
I plan on getting everything put in by the start of June. Can't wait. Your pictures will be of great aid.
Hi Bryan,
I used Polk DB351 3 1/2" two way speakers for the rear. For my needs they add the sound I like to hear coming form behind. Before I put them in it sounded weird only hearing sound coming from in front of me.
When you take the rear speaker panels out you will see four mounting holes for the speakers. These speakers fit perfect but you have to do a small mod. Using a pair of wire cutters I cut a small notch out of the web that is in front of each of the four speaker mounting holes. By cutting this notch the 3 1/5" speakers fit perfectly in the speaker hole. You will see what I am talking about when you lay the speaker on the panel.
I know some of the guys here said that there would be too many highs by having two way speakers in the doors and also in the rear but I like the sound. I'm not an audiophile so my ears probably aren't as "well tuned" as theirs! lol But the sound difference over stock is great and very noticeable.
The kenwood sound settings are very customizable. You can select the type and size of speakers you have and turn off the tweeters if you want. You can tweak the equalizer to your liking too and you can also set the bass settings for each speaker. So if you are inclined you can get the system to sound pretty good.
At the recommnedation of someone here I bought a Infinity Reference 475a Amp. Its only 75watts per channel which is just perfect for my needs. This amp provides plenty of power for "normal" speakers and won't tax the vehicle's charging system. It also has two pre-outs for a powered subwoofer or another amp.
I haven't installed a subwoofer yet. I'm still undecided on whether I want to or not. If I do I will go with a compact powered subwoofer. I think kenwood makes one with two 8" speakers in it.
I added a few more pictures to my Kenwood installation album showing the amp. I'm sorry but I didn't take any pictures of the speakers.
I also added a rear view camera this past weekend too.
Take care,
Willie
Which brand / type of 3 1/2 " speakers did you install into the rear area? I really like this idea.
Which AMP did you end up getting? I ended up getting the Alpine PDX 4.150
Which SUB did you get and how are you going to mount it and where? I am so stuck on this one. I bought the JL 8" Sub. But no BOX yet, not really sure where to put it.
Hi Bryan,
I finished installing an amp and speakers yesterday. I replaced the door speakers and added 3 1/2" rear speakers. Unfortuneately I didn't take any pictures. I need to tidy up the wiring now that I have it all hooked up and it works so if you can wait I'll take some pic of the amp and the wiring thats visible.
If you have any specific questions about installing that stuff feel free to ask.
Take care,
Willie
