Update: Custom rear plate LEDs!!!!

I checked out the direct plug n play bulbs you can get from vleds for the rear license plate lights, but i felt it didn't do an adequate job and i've also been hearing that those burn out so i decided to fabricate a much better solution. The result is an extremely well lit completely OEM looking solution. It is almost identical in color to the Lexus OEM ones but much much brighter. I can now reverse in complete darkness and have the leds illuminate all of the rear area.

1.

Remove the housing and the bulbs. Just slide the entire housing sideways and it pops right out.

2.

Pry open the housing. Take a small flathead and start prying from the corner with the most clearance. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure until you hear a crack. This is not going to crack the housing so you don't have to worry. You're just cracking the dried glue.

3.

Take an LED panel such as this. This one could not fit any more perfect than it did without trimming anything.

4.

Take a glue gun and create a pair of spacers between the LED panel and the surface of the housing. This helps run the wire out of the housing hole much easier and protects the led panel in many ways. This simple step sometimes is the difference between having a panel last 3 months to 5 years.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9.

10.

Then you just glue the housing back together, attach connector that comes with the led panel and plug the baby in.

11.

Voila! Sorry i don't have any night time pictures yet but i will take some and post them tonight. These daytime pics do not do the lights any justice. They are so so bright and so white it is pleasing to my eyes when i look at them.

12.

13.

Thanks for looking and stay tuned for nighttime pictures later on!!

Nice lookin Z man! I was tempted to get black, but its true what they say, its a full time job keeping it clean hehe. Platinum Graphite allows me to be a little lazy

I noticed the pics of the dynamat, did it help a lot with the road noise that you get with the Z? The sound of pebbles hitting the wheel wells and undercarriage of the car doesn't bother me that much, but it would be if i could kill it a bit. curious as to how well the dynamat works and how easy it is to install...

the led set up with the license plate lights is pretty damn bright! who needs reverse lights?

Hey haha yeah black is hard to keep but i think it's pretty rewarding in its own wicked way.

As far as the dynamat goes, i didn't get it to reduce the pebble noises in the wheel well. I will not even be dynamatting that area. I was concerned with road noise, just straight up tire noise and wind noise that resonates through the cabin. Dynamat reduced it noticeably and i am a happy camper. Honestly, the pebble noises do not bother me one bit. If anything, it makes me more aware of what i'm driving through.

it comes out blue due to the white balance settings on your camera...i could go on about photography, but it'd bore everyone haha.

where do you buy dynamat...and where do you buy those led panels that you used for the license plate lights?

Oil Changed to Redline Synthetic!!!!
I just hit 5000 miles so I said why not.

1.

12 Quarts of pure goodness. Thanks AK for persuading me to Redline. I swear, you should get paid by them.

2.

Oh the irony.....they brag and brag about how good the oil is under hot temps and they slap this sucker on.

3.

4.

For those who want to know how it looks like, here it is.

5.

Not suitable for break in. I waited until 5k to switch over.

6.

On jackstands.

7.

Levitating Z. On a serious note, if you notice, i purposely tilted the car a tiny bit to the right to make sure i can drain as much dirty oil as possible.

6.

7.

I swear by this filter since many years ago when they were blue instead of gold. Good stuff.

8.

Thanks again to AK for teaching me this ingenious method.

9.

Best 5 dollars I've ever spent. Bought at Pepboys.

10.

I always make sure to fill the new filter with some oil to prevent a dry start. Does doing this make the car last longer at all? Probably not. Does it help me sleep at night? Yes. Oh and make sure to lube the new gasket with oil.

11.

Looking pretty clean!

12.

Feeding the baby monster.

Impressions: Holy hell she runs smooth. Noticeably quieter and smoother. I will change the oil and filter every 5000 miles with this setup. Thanks for looking and happy modding! Next up on my list is the FI cbe so stay tuned!

Cheers,

Tim

Redline FTW. Looks like you went cheap with the Kroger brand funnel instead of the name brand though

I fill the new filter too. You're right, probably has little benefit, but makes me feel better.

Very nice Tbone. I like the license plate light mod. Also, the water bottle funnel is GREAT. It's FREE and works like charm!
