I tried Bride FO rails but they are too narrow; I've read on here that people have had success with the FO rails on the "Ring" seat, but not the "Ring GT" that I have because its wider. Next I'm going to try the Buddy Club rails from a friend who has a set to see if those can lower the height. |
Status seat update: So I picked up a pair of Wedge seat brackets to replace the crooked/leaning Planted brackets....WIN! They are totally level and LOW. They fit the Status Ring GT seats perfectly so now I'm sitting nice and low, level, and the sliders adjust nice and smooth.

Man your car is sick.. love the turbo whine. Nice work

So I was cleaning under my car last week and saw this:
https://i.imgur.com/uvrECjt.jpg I think its only been like that for a couple weeks or so, but I hate knowing that something is broken on my car, so I decided to fix it. I read up on all the rear differential bushing DIYs I could before deciding to tackle it myself: https://i.imgur.com/MtY0F1x.jpg I figured since I had to pull the diff out to put in some Whiteline bushings, might as well change to the Nismo finned cover. Pulling off the old cover this is what the Quaife LSD looks like installed....that fluid stinks. Getting the diff out wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be....hardest part for me was either getting all the drive shaft and axle bolts loose or getting the rear diff bushing out so far. This damn bushing was a pain in the butt at first, but a Sawzall made quick work of it and got it out in less than 20 minutes with the help of an air chisel. https://i.imgur.com/SMKzbyY.jpg All I have left to do tomorrow is put the new bushings in...maybe clean up the underside and tweak a couple things. https://i.imgur.com/GuU1FRK.jpg |
Good job!

Thanks new found confidence
|
Well I finished up today and it was pretty quick as soon as I figured out a way to squeeze the new rear bushing in. I ended up just using a bar and using leverage against the frame to push it in. Nice shiny new Whiteline elastomer rear bushing and Nismo finned diff cover.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7...305_181153.jpg Shot of the front bushings...they were easy to put back in too. I also just used a normal floor jack and CAREFULLY maneuvered the diff back into position. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-o...305_181221.jpg While everything was off the car and it was elevated, changed out the diff fluid and oil/filter too. I LOVE the Motul bottles...so ingenious with the pull out spout, I didn't even need a pump/tube to refill the diff fluid. I had enough room with the exhaust out of the way to just pour it in the diff straight from the bottle. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C...305_175205.jpg Its stupid windy/rainy outside so the test drive will have to wait till tomorrow. I'll post up my street driving impressions later. |
So far driving impressions are AWESOME. I must have been driving with a busted bushing for longer than I guessed, because I think I got used to how sloppy/loose the drive train was. I've had to relearn how to drive it. Clutch engagement is more consistent and precise. Shifting seems more solid. Everything overall seems more solid and it feels like most of the slack/looseness is gone. Its only been a day or two and I'm still getting used to the different but much better feel. I haven't noticed any increase in noise or vibration, but my car was already not very quiet to begin with lol (NVH). If you can do this install yourself, I'd say its awesome bang for the buck and well worth the relatively cheap cost of the items. I also like the look of the Nismo diff cover :P

Great thread and sick car!

Just a sweet pic someone took at a meet in Myrtle Beach. On another note, I've been seeing so many people I know get their cars damaged either in driving collisions or just stupid people driving, I decided to get a dash cam. I figure its a cheap investment that might help me out one day. I even decided to get one for my wife's car and my daily Prius. There's so many out there that it was hard to decide on one to get. They range anywhere from $50 to $500 :P Took me a few hours of researching online to find one that I felt comfortable with. I should be getting them this or next week then I can post up my review. For now I'm just using my GoPro Hero 3 set in 5 min loop and hardwired for power as my dash cam. |

OMG I've fallen in love with my car all over again. Just got around to installing rear camber arms and a Racelogic Traction Control system.
For the rear camber arms, I just went with SPC for now with their 72262 kit which differs from the 72260 arms which are listed on a lot of websites like Z1. The 72262 kit comes with toe bolts and lock out plates and also have "xAxis" bushings which are supposed to handle like mono balls. The 72260 doesn't include toe bolts or lock out plates and has an OEM type rubber bushing. I decided to get these instead of SPLs awesome arms because of the price and I don't plan on seriously tracking my car anytime soon. I thought the price couldn't be beat for $184 for everything too. Install was easy and got my camber where I want it to be: https://i.imgur.com/Nm6q8BI.jpg As for the Racelogic (RLTC) Traction Control...I got an AWESOME deal from one of the guys on this forum that I couldn't pass up. This was the non-can bus unit which had to be spliced in to the ECU and have wheel sensors tapped for the no-lift shift option. https://i.imgur.com/4TH3LIL.jpg I was a little intimidated by all the wiring at first, but I took my time, read all the info in the DIY on here and in the RLTC manuals. I also had a lot of help from JMac and JTodd. Taking my time, it took about 2-3 days to get everything in the way I wanted it. A lot of the time was figuring out where I was going to mount the digital controller and making sure I had the wiring right. I decided the easiest and most convenient place for me was in the cubby. I also decided to move my Greddy PRofec boost controller to the cubby too. https://i.imgur.com/ODwfUmG.jpg I got everything wired in...fired it up...and then wasn't getting signals from the front wheels. I figured out that I wired in the sensor chips at the wheels in reverse, but that was an easy fix. Then I realized I had my wheel sensor wires mixed up at the main unit and the controller showed the rear left wheel was the front left wheel, but that was an easy fix, just switched wires around. After I was getting the correct signals from each wheel, I messed with the configuration through the laptop serial/usb connection and made sure the tire sizes, engine cylinder number and other settings were good. Re-connected the digital adjuster and it showed the correct RPMs and showed full functionality. Before testing the system out I got my alignment corrected. So far I've tried out the No-lift shift option, slip/traction control in turns, and just a standing launch test.....I LOVE IT! Feels like a new beast and now I feel it was a definitely good purchase and would do it all over again. If you're boosted this should be on your To-Buy list :D Contact JMac and check out his posts. I would totally recommend this to any Z boosted or not. I'll have vids up as soon as I can. |
Got a shipment I've been anxiously awaiting for:
https://i.imgur.com/l7GkQvW.jpg Sold my Volk GTS wheels and got a good deal on these TE37 SL Pressed Double Blacks: 18 x 10 +30 and 18 x 11 +18. I'll be selling my NT03s once I get these Volks on. These things feel so LIGHT! According to my super precision bathroom scale, the rear is about 21 lbs and the front about 18 lbs. Oh yeah, also replaced my GoPro with an actual dash cam now so I don't have to manually push on/off. Went with an A118C (capacitor version) and liking it so far. Its small and has a small foot print, but still records good quality video and audio. |
Soo awesome bro! nice wheels

Drivetrain issues with VSR turbo
What other drive line parts have you upgraded or had issues with since installing the turbo. Are you using the stock clutch, transmission handling the extra power etc?
|
Z1 6-puck clutch w/ lightened flywheel, Quaife LSD, Whiteline rear diff bushings, and Nismo finned diff cover. No issues in over a year (knock on wood). Everything seems to be handling the power perfectly. I just keep up with maintenance and try to inspect everything often.
|
Awesome ride man! BTW, I daily a Prius too :tiphat:
|
Just realized I never put pics up of the wheels on the car :P
I put a coat of CQuartz ceramic quartz on the wheels after prepping while they were still new. https://i.imgur.com/Il5J4jJ.jpg |
 nice work man!

Driveline upgrades
Thanks for the feedback. Well done and a very very nice car!

Wheel setup looks great!!! What tire sizes did you go with?

I just remounted the tires that I had on the Enkei NT03s...trying to keep the OEM tire diameter:
275/40/18 up front...NT555 305/35/18 in back...NT555R...probably switching to NT05s later |
hey dan, you got the same exact tires that i had on my 18's
if you need an extra set on either fronts or rears lemme know, i need to get rid of these asap bc im moving. |
How much did that whole top mount kit run you from VSR an did they take your stillen supercharger for some of the payment

Blackstone oil analysis
1 Attachment(s)
Decided to start doing oil analysis because I was curious what the results would be after being boosted over 2 years with over 20,000 miles. I'm happy with the initial results and curious to see the next results.
"We certainly don't see any issues in this first sample from your 370Z. In fact, what we do see are wear levels that look better than the universal averages for Nissan's VQ37VHR engine. Those averages are based on about 5,100 miles on the oil, so your interval was just a little shorter, and as you can see, your metals look great in comparison. The only marks are for the mildly thin viscosity, which is fine, and the 0.5% fuel dilution, which is also fine and probably due to the cold sampling you mentioned. All in all, we think you have a nice, healthy engine here!" |
I haven't posted up here in a while....I've been unemployed for over a year now; using my GI Bill to go back to school and about to finish up a Nuclear Med Tech program this summer. Still have the bug to mod though so fancied up the tires. Everything is still going strong on the car though.
https://i.imgur.com/CaYHuWf.jpg I was running the Nitto drag radials as daily for a while and they finally got too bald so just got a pair of their new NT 555 Gen 2 tires to replace 'em. Unfortunately the widest size they had was 275 so I'm running 275 square now, but I'm cool with it because "student status" and just street driving now. https://i.imgur.com/poXZDzk.jpg |
does VSR still offer this kit? cant seem to get ahold of them

So after years of running boosted with this kit I finally started experiencing an issue: for about a month while idling at a light, lots of smoke would start to come out of the exhaust...like a smoke screen. I checked all the fluids (coolant/oil) and everything was the same. I got all panicky and took everything apart and took the turbo out because I thought something was broken.
https://i.imgur.com/ZB5Evvt.jpg After talking with a lot of shops/people, it was assumed that a seal had broken. But after researching things online....I think the problem was as simple as a dirty air filter. I remember when I took everything apart, the filter looked pretty jammed up from pollen, sand, dirt, debris and it was like a vacuum cleaner filter when you hit it against something to clean it. Junk just fell from it like crazy. So I think that the restriction there was causing the pressure build up in the turbo at idle to let oil get in the exhaust and smoke it out. I would test this theory but while putting everything back together a t-clamp for the charge pipe broke, so waiting on that....should find out tomorrow, but I'm sure thats all it was. I also thought I'd tackle the headlight mods while everything was apart :P https://i.imgur.com/TN1wuCQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dXMg2t2.jpg |
