Debating creating a DIY for this because I am not 100% sure on how long they will last compared to the FRP material, or the fiberglass ones created by professional companies..

I took a stroll thru Home Depot yesterday (Sat.) and decided to look at different types of materials that could be used for side blades/skirts. The ones online & offered by sponsors are anywhere from $250-400 for basic side blades.

I ended up spending about 4-5 hours worth of my time on these, but for the $$$ spent, I could care less if they lasted a few months.

If you guys want a little write-up, I can do it. & post more pics. But here are the custom side skirts.. I will probably get so flamed for this.

Lets face it, the 370z is loud inside the car. Especially when you have short tails.

I saw the offers for GTMat on the forum and didn't jump on it. I looked up prices for Dynamat, SecondSkin, etc.. and found that they were $$$.

After a bit of research I found a product called Peel & Seal. I can write up a DIY if people are interested. Anyways, I paid $16.99 for 25 ft of it. (I got 2)= $34

First things first, was I read the DIY on how to remove the rear panels. Everything came out really easily. I had the rear gutted in less then 10 minutes. Didn't realize how large it was without the foam pieces and panels.

I took it out for a road test without anything in the trunk and WOW, its like a giant rattle can. Especially when I was downshifting haha!

Sorry about the Red lines...Not sure what happened there.

I tried to get the whole back area as much as possible without going overboard. It took about a roll and a half to do the rear and middle cubby area.

I then did a couple of road tests and realized I needed to do the door panels. I heard a lot of sound coming from the doors.

Door panels are super easy to remove. Just need a little flathead screwdriver, a large philips, and a 10mm socket.

Both doors took about a half a roll. (10-13 feet worth).

Impressions:
Road noise has gone down a bit. I stopped hearing little rocks and stuff under the wheel wells.
No smell like some people stated. When applying, you will smell the tar/rubber stuff.
Exhaust sounds better.
Speakers sound like they are easier to hear and less rattle.

Overall I am very pleased. It was a fun project and I would recommend it to anyone.

Apparently this Peel & Seal stuff works almost identically to dynamat. The main differences are the thickness and probably what its made of. Also peel and seal is not made for sound deadening. Its made for roofers.

Good luck to anyone that wants to try this out! I can answer any questions

Nicely done.

I've grown used to the loud sound and don't even notice it anymore.

How heavy is that material? Probably insignificant, but you never know. I remember dynamat being quite thick and heavy.

You've probably grown to love the sound because you have stillen mods haha!

Stillen catback muffles so much and is pretty quiet in my opinion. I will have to take you for a ride when I see you

The total weight added was 8 lbs (2 rolls). I'd say thats me after Thanksgiving dinner

Heck yeah. My buddy and I are out at the Pavs almost every weekend too. We park way away passed the Home Depot (his GTR and my Z).

Won't be there this Saturday, but the following most likely.

Great write up about the peel and seal! I checked to see if Home Depot carries it but they don't. So, I'm gonna hit Lowe's this weekend. I did some extra research online and it seems like many enthusiasts use he product on their builds.

Thanks again for the recommendation. It will certainly save some $$$!!!!

It may smell a bit when it gets hot. It's asphalt based as opposed to butyl rubber. If you want the best bang for your buck, after you put on a layer of this, put a layer of closed cell foam on top of it. I used Ensolite. It's cheap and self adhesive. Adding the foam makes the deadened work so much better.
