Welcome to the PlastiDip brotherhood! Looks like you did a really good job especially for your first Dip. Now go out there and get us a great photoshoot away from houses and cars. And get that thing posted up on the DYC forum, pronto.

Nice shoot! Keep it up!

So after dipping my whole car and driving around with it for awhile, I realized it wasn't perfect - the hood was jacked up. The doors had really small streaks that I wasn't fond of..
Anyways, long story short I made a video for you all to see how I fixed it and made it perfect... Take a look at the video in 1080HD. |

Good thing is...the Plasti dip is easily fixable  |
I did all the work myself. It was my first full car dip!
Also, the first 2 gallons were perfect. It was when I got to the last gallon, and was running out of dip and the whole vehicle wasnt even covered yet. So in turn, I went lighter, less dip, and it made a weird texture.. Anyways, its 1000% better now. And it cost me $18.99 to fix haha http://s29.postimg.org/tfxxcta9z/20140105_165346.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/uxjdodf0n/20140115_185032.jpg Also, I got my 370z.com decals.. Felt the HP Difference.. http://s14.postimg.org/e7z5vnxdt/20140115_185005.jpg |

[QUOTE=NickTurnon;2654252] Oh yeah!!! 1000x better. Sorry about the 10yr old comment! lol I remember my first couple times laying paint down. Took some learning! keep it up man. Your build is looking great! |
Nah, you are all good - I enjoy the slight criticism! It keeps me on top of my game.
It was just hard because when I ordered the dip, you have to wait 1-2 weeks for it to ship from Florida.. So when I finished the job, I had no dip left to fix the bad texture. In return, I was debating pulling off the dip, recycling it with thinner/reducers and respraying it. My other option was ordering 1 gallon, but that is very expensive. Better to buy in bulk.. So I am just glad XYLENE worked and I was able to salvage my dip job! I am already starting to plan another color or gloss finish for this color - Probably after I see how the matte holds up in the AZ summertime/cleaning it etc.. |
Man love how looks your car in that color btw nice work my friend!!!
|
Nice shots

She's coming along nicely man, looks great!
Zdayz 2014!! |
Car is coming along nicely and looks great Nick. Going to Pavilions this weekend? 1st time for me since last summer. Gotta show off the ride a couple of times a year. I haven't even driven my Z in a couple of weeks. Time to stretch it's legs... ;)

Lookin' Sexy...
http://s29.postimg.org/5lh6l41af/20140119_153245.jpg Decided to change up the engine bay a little bit! I have a DIY too. Wrote down the steps.. Remove plastic piece thats hiding the two bolts near the windshield. Remove all bolts with 14mm Ratchet - http://s29.postimg.org/uawx5ietj/20140119_163719.jpg Clean with alcohol and sand if needed http://s29.postimg.org/4gn4fqetj/20140119_163727.jpg Go to autozone and buy a can of primer for $3 http://s29.postimg.org/5gdfbftzb/20140119_171514.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/yhhrkuefb/20140119_171527.jpg Choose a color that you enjoy, spray paint over the primer, and there you go! Let it dry and install it back on. I went with chrome metallic blue just for a fun and exciting color under the hood. http://s29.postimg.org/bc2rl3jwn/20140119_182346.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/brimruv7r/20140119_182405.jpg |
nice work dude!!!
|
Looks good Nick! I just dropped mine off at the powder coater yesterday to get done up in pearl white to match the Z.
Zdayz 2014!! |
Need some opinions guys!
I think I would be the first to throw these Borbet style 95 7 Series wheels on a 370.. Looking for honest answers haha - Oh, and before you judge. Seller is local and wants $650 obo - Comes with tires that have 80% tread... I read that you need an adapter to change the lugs from a 5x120 to a 5x114? + $250 Total would be $900 - http://s12.postimg.org/l7d18pjal/101...49108866_n.jpg |
Looks decent. I give it a 6/10.
Zdayz 2014!! |
this is one of the best threads ive read, so much info and so many updates with pics and helpful info, thanks OP, great job on the car.
i liked your old Z with the black and grey better than the plastic dip one, hard to tell if those rims are nice, dif from in person than pics.. but the first pic with the black color looks the best imo. i keep seeing black then oem then black then oem door handles again? maybe add a slight 3rd color like a navy blue to your theme? bc the blue bar in your engine bay looks MINT. keep up the great job |
Guys/Gals,
I just want to say that I give a big ROUND OF APPLAUSE for HOTRODZ (Bob) - Who drove 3 hrs from Kingman AZ to Phoenix to deliver some parts for me that I purchased off him! I was sitting up in the sky with the stock suspension and needed to switch it up - So I bought Bob's slightly used NISMO Struts and some TEIN S Tech Springs. From what I read the drop was supposed to be around 1.2 in the front and 1.4 or so in the rear. I think the front dropped more then the rear but I still love it. The NISMO struts and new springs seem to make the ride much stiffer and more bouncey! Highway driving is very smooth, possibly smoother then stock. Also, corning is a whole new world over the base setup. I feel like I can easily add 20mph when taking corners after adding the new suspension. Install took roughly 5 hrs.. I got quoted $340 to do the install with the struts, and i just said F' it... Im going to DIY... Only issue was that my wheel lock got stripped. Got the 4 lugs off, but couldnt get the wheel locks off.. So i broke them & used 19MM metric sockets and a hammer to get them off.. Other then that, beer & pizza made the job that much easier. Here are a couple pics: http://s29.postimg.org/h63diez13/20140209_163740.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/n5r4m2jtj/20140209_183542.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/wg38plujb/20140209_211847.jpg http://s16.postimg.org/j9vmwbhat/20140209_183551.jpg http://s16.postimg.org/p89g6k09h/20140209_211923.jpg http://s16.postimg.org/o9t349mxh/20140210_072938.jpg http://s16.postimg.org/9bao9u7v9/20140210_072955.jpg |
A little CF added to the door/window pillars - Ill probably throw a can of clear coat over the top of this vinyl..

|
Nice job Nick...lookin good my friend, lookin good!!!!
How do you like the ride on the new springs? You probably need an alignment too. |
Quote:
Once I get new tires, in the next week or so, I will get an alignment as well :tiphat: Thinking of a slightly bigger sidewall to fill the gap a little more  Thanks again Bob |
Very cool...I can't wait to see it.

This is what I have started to use instead of driving to my girlfriends house or driving to my parents to wash my car -- Costs $1.25 for 4 minutes. So i spend about $2.50 total and the car leaves spotless. Love this DIP haha.
http://s1.postimg.org/nsevy023z/20140226_151235.jpg http://s1.postimg.org/avsd42vn3/20140226_151252.jpg After a short weekend roadtrip to my hometown OC, I needed some new tires... http://s1.postimg.org/63n56dqcv/20140227_140101.jpg So I made a few calls, a friend pulled some strings, and I ended up at the Corporate Warehouse for "Friends & Family" of Discount Tire. It was a huge warehouse with only one small work bay for 1 car. Very exclusive. Loved that... http://s1.postimg.org/m4b55lyun/20140227_145947.jpg Tires....toasted. http://s1.postimg.org/rxl766ai7/20140227_155214.jpg |
After my discount,
I purchased (4) Continental DWS All season tires per KenChans & many others recommendations.. I paid $178 for the front each. 245/45/18 I paid $221 for the rears each. 275/40/18 Total OTD was $834.. Thats a decent deal to me - I will be re-dipping the wheels. Possibly a different color or add some red in there... http://s1.postimg.org/yvtwpuy0f/20140227_162332.jpg http://s1.postimg.org/3nlbsj8a7/20140227_162345.jpg http://s1.postimg.org/ahvmi80xb/20140227_162400.jpg http://s1.postimg.org/y7l26wzan/20140227_162407.jpg |
Let me know about the grip and sound quality of those.
I'll be getting new wheels here soon and I'm undecided on tires right now. |
It was a toss up between the Continental DWS - Bridestone S04's - & Mich PSS
I got the best deal on these Conti's though. I noticed a HUGE difference in the amount of rear tire that you get with the DWS compared to the FALKENs I had on there previously. No wonder these are supposed to last 50,000 without staggered.. Road noise, I am not the person to ask about. You cant hear the tires over my exhaust - However.. I did notice that on the highway the car was noticeably quieter and smoother. But then again i've been driving with a new lowered suspension & bald tires for a couple of weeks so anything is a major improvement. I will let you know how it handles when I open her up. Yesterday I was getting the traction symbol when I was just punching it in 4th gear with someone else in the car. Which is strange because my FALKENs never let it slip like that until around 2nd Gear. Maybe because they are so new still? Havent had time to get their grip? Idk.. |
