I have a lot of new problems to address, because....
My 9 year old and I have picked out his first car, and it needs a LITTLE bit of work lol. One owner car with all original papers which is cool. L28 motor thrown in along with original part match 2.4 which I’ll set aside. Plan as of now is to completely strip it down, media blast it, weld up and address all rust and dings (and huge holes) then clean up and powder coat suspension. 1. 2800 motor rebuild to about 200 hp 2. Coil over suspension 3. Full disk brakes all around. 4 rebuild 5 speed tranny 5. Strip disease ridden interior and replace with racing seats and 5 pt harness 6. Roll cage for eventual track use (easier to put on now when it’s all stripped out.) Should look about like this under hood in a year or two. (A buddy’s restoration at the shop I use) Goal is to get my 9 year old’s hands dirty on his first car and revive a struggling classic in the process. We will completely disassemble at my shop. Reassemble the machined motor at my shop and then get help at buddy’s race shop reassembling and rewriting. I have a LOT of grinding and welding ahead of me! I hope 6 years is enough to get this done lol.

This truly looks like a great way to get the kid started on becoming mechanically handy (and more into Z history)! Also a great way to teach VALUE through blood, sweat, tears and good ole' fashioned HARD WORK! Should be fun for you to see the kid grow with the car. Good luck with the build! |

Surfdog's 09 journal
Long term testing yields THIS astounding datapoint over a 10 mile stretch of flatfish denver highway.
I averaged 29 MPG driving like me (hoonagin-ish) over last year or so. Apparently tuning intake, exhaust, and ECU For max power also puts you almost into Prius country if you drive like you give a damn. TAKE THAT NANCY PELOSI!!!

Surfdog's 09 journal
Finally got around to putting on my z1 under-tray. It had to be modded slightly to accommodate the drain hole on my baffled oil pan.
Also finally pulled the bumper and installed my sweet blacked out nismo or at least new style headlight buckets. The old ones were beat. While I was under there I cleaned out my air filters (gen 2 Stillen cold air intake filters are a PITA to get to as the bumper has to come off which means wheel well skirts too. Ug. I’m considering putting the JWT pop chargers back in. The stillen setup is good for about 10 degrees of intake temp. Maybe I can figure out how to route cooler air up there and keep my filters accessible?

It only takes about 10 minutes to remove the bumper.
