Well track season about over for me, I have two more events on my list
-- Z1 nationals at Road Atlanta 10/8 -- SCCA Track Night at AMP 10/20 Starting my list of things to do this winter --- 1) time for new tires, now have to decided whether 18 or 19, I have wheels for both, but both sets are stagger 2) Nismo V2 bumper, thinking on this too.... 3) finally the YAW Switch mod (yea, I known) 4) Figuring a way to install the Garmin Catalyst in center console. 5) paint correction, it is 10 years old, build date was August 2011... I think that is plenty for the winter.... putting things down, so I can start thinking and trying to figure what to do....

Z1 Nationals - Road Atlanta Notes:
-- Day was made up of five 20 minute sessions, there were five groups instructors/Advance (red)/Intermediate(Blue)/Novice 2 (yellow)/Novice 1(green). -- morning session was wet, no rain, track was drying through out the morning. I was turning times around a between 2:00:00 and 2:05:00. just taking it easy. Not trying to do anything stupid. -- afternoon sessions the track dried out more and more, so by the last two sessions it was dry. So it got to be fun. Best time was a 1:56.659. Things I learned -- Tire pressure, started working on having my tire pressure when I came back in at 35 front / 33 rear. The car actually felt better all around. -- Time, oh there is more time to lose, but, self preservation was in play. I have to work on my braking, a little bit at a time. Notes: -- At one point a session I was in was blacked flag, found out that Road Atlanta was upset with the rise in incidents occurring. So they basically had all the groups take a time out. -- car performed extremely well, glad to see that it can handle a 5 sessions. -- Tires, its time, I actually corded my right front tire on the inside. When I was doing my post track inspection, I found it. Checked the rears, even wear, but they are done. -- going from 10a/10b to 11 and the hill, I felt better about it. (still respected it), but I think the sims, helped me with the understanding of that turn. -- Turn 1, apex was a bit early, found that out at the end of the day.

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of spending all day at the dealership, and finally agreeing to purchase my 2012 Black Cherry Sports Z. In looking back, just wanted it so bad, and I finally got it. I was the only one to take a test drive, because, it was still in shipping wrap. So all the miles are mine.
Its been fun, making it my own personally Z, with the mods I did, pure enjoyment in driving and tracking it. I also think this is the longest car that I have ever kept, and it is not going anyplace. Still enjoy it today as much as back then

My last event at Atlanta Motorsport Park, was my best. Not time was, but driving was. A little history, at my last track day I had cored a tire and the rear tires are now dead. So I have a set of 18's stagger I was using as winter tires. I put them on and said I would take it easy.
So I worked on the tire pressures and hit the right combination of pressure, Worked on understanding the grip on the first run, and looking ahead. In last session I turned a 1.44.34, which was only 6 tenths slower then on summer. But that lap was the best I have done, seem to hit all the marks and in the end it felt so good. That's why I have many thanks for many people, from my son getting me into sims, my sims coach and all the folks on the forum that take the time to provide there insight and advice. THANKS Here is the lap: AMP Best Lap

Good thread.
It has been a pleasure to read it. So how many miles has the car now ? For your tires, if you still do a lot of tracks, I would recommend the Nankang AR1. They are really great and we see a lot of people doing trackdays with them. The only down side would be that they wear quite quickly. I do not know compared to the two you mentioned. Cup 2 from Michelin but they are quit expensive as well. |

Miles on car 66000/106000KM... I have looked into the Nankang AR1 and concern it they do wear quickly, the car is driven to track events. The Falken AZENIS RT660, is a 200 treadwear, which I have heard and experience good things about here....

Belated Happy New Year...
Kind a tune out for a bit. But I have been doing things. 1) Mid-Ohio lapping day certificate, now have to wait for the schedule and see if I can do Mid-Ohio and Nelson Ledges in a week to 2 week period. 2) sign-up for ZCON 2022, to do Barber Motorsports, figure I need to go to at least one ZCON 3) Order tires and wheels, went with ENKEI RPF1 18x10.5 and Falken RT660 275/35/18 square setup 4) Tracking this year, really working on a schedule. My preference is to do one day events or SCCA Track nights. 5) Look for a coach/instructor I can hire and work with, this might be interesting depending on what type events I am going to do.. 6) Track prep, usually,, new brakes / flushed brake-clutch. Flush cooling and get rid of anti-freeze and maybe also flush transmission. Clear Air filters. normal stuff before a busy season. 7) AMP (atlanta motorsport park) has something called Taste of AMP, which a 3 hour class/orientation. Might be fun to see how close or not I am to driving the track, since its the track I visit the most. Think that is where I am at right now for now.

Track prep has begun...
cleaned the air filters like I do every year, so much fun, but its done. First event going to be at AMP on 4/13. I have also figured out how to do SCCA Track night at Nelson Ledges in June. Excited about that, because it is where I learned how to drive my Formula Ford back in the day at a SCCA driving school. Hopefully will finish the schedule by the end of the week

Last Wednesday (4/13) I did my first track event of the year, it was at SCCA Track Night at Atlanta Motorsport Park.
Just commenting on how my evening went. It was the first time of running a square setup (alken AZENIS RT660 - 275/35 18 rims ENKEI RPF1 18X10.5 +15 ). SCCA Track night is setup for 3 20 minutes sessions. What made this night so interesting, they asked me to move up to advance. I said ok. Was a little axnoius. First session - start with tire pressure on the High side - Cold front 34 cold rear 32. Just a way to get an idea on how the fires were going to perform. It was just fun getting back on the track and getting back into the groove. Came in and the tire pressure hot was 4 pounds too much all around. So for the next session I dropped the front to 32 and the rear to 30. I got out a little late on the 2nd session and immediately had to let a porsche boxster and C5 vette by. These two were running pretty close together. So once I found my pace, I caught up to them. And for a bit it was a 3 car train. But after a couple of laps the Vette pointed me by and the next lap the porsche did too. And to my surprise I pulled away on them. Felt good, car felt good and turned my quickest time 1.39.64. But was not the most consistent when it came to lap times. Checked tire pressures and they were about right on, Except the front left, it was a couple of pounds about 39. So next session I did the same starting pressures, but dropped the front left down to 31. The last session I wanted to be more consistent with my times Things went well. Low of 1.39.94 and high of 141.47. That felt real good. It might have been help with the fact the I was following a s2000 and keeping pace with it. Close enough to follow, but not close enough to go around. Thou I did run into two new items I need to learn about. 1) Turn 10, I could feel the left front rolling on itself. Even thou the left front pressure was a bit higher. So next time leave the pressure a bit higher 2) Next, is I was hitting the rev limit coming out 16 to the start finish line. Hmm, I said, must now be carring more speed out of 16. So it was a fun and interesting evening 4V6A0537-L.jpg 5B4A3891-L.jpg
