I'm getting the Stillen S/C installed on my 08 350Z right now, so I've been spying on you 3.7L guy's cog setup. What idler pulley did you have to get from Stillen? Is it something to do with the Cogs?

No sir, the idler pulley is for the serpentine belt that runs Alt, Water pump etc. on the front of the motor. I just had to order it from Stillen because it mounts to the SC plate and of course the pulley doesn't match anything on the market so they have cornered the market on it. $200.00 for a bolt, spacer and pulley.

I tried using a vortech part but the bearings they use didn't match the bolt diameter I needed to secure it to the SC plate.

I just got my 35mm COG to replace the 50mm. 35mm with 32 tooth looks like the right way to go. Plenty of clearance...

simota1 05-24-2013 03:35 PM

great job man!!! loving the progress :)

Pro4Jackster 05-24-2013 11:33 PM

Sweet. I already stole your part numbers for the Cog setup. Hopefully that's all I need. So, did you end up with 34 tooth jack-shaft and 32 tooth S/C? I'm going to start gathering up parts for the next couple of months as I break-in/debug all my recent upgrades. Good luck man. Ill continue spying on your progress.

32 tooth.. Are you doing an impeller swap?

:tiphat:

GaleForce 05-25-2013 07:55 AM

I love this thread.

Pro4Jackster 05-25-2013 09:52 AM

JTran said I should save the impeller swap for last. Changing the impeller could cause Vortech to void the warranty on the blower. Once everything gets broke in and we've worked out any kinks, Ill start with the cogs and move on to the impeller. I may run out of fuel or MAFs before I ever get that far.

That's a lot of speculation. Ha ha. I haven't even driven the car yet. I tend to get carried away.

Why did you go with a 32 cog s/c pulley instead of a 30 or 28? With them you could run a larger Serp pulley up front and still have the higher blower RPMs. Was it a clearance or belt issue?

When you install the SC on to the motor the idler pulley on the back of the flex plate needs to clear the engine block. I had a Jack Shaft of 34 and SC Drive of 32 but when you put the belt on there is no idler pulley adjustment. So it causes the pulley to hit the engine block. Vortec makes 2 belts a 72 and 76 I believe. The 76 is to loose and wont fit unless your running 34/34 the 72 works fine 32/32 or 30/32 30/34 anything less on the SC pulley side and your Idler pulley will start to rub on your SC drive COG when you adjust the tension on the belt.

My final COG set up is 32/32 x 35mm and the 350Z 2.5 lipped aluminum idler pulley set (which is smaller than the plastic Stillen 3 inch). This set up will keep me out of the 12 lbs boost range. It is conservative, I would go all out but I like to drive my car every day. So i need it to be conservative.

If you want to go all out at 12lbs of boost get the Vortec SCI upgrade. Comes with compressor and a 928 impeller, add DW320 and 1000cc injectors and your at 480/500 HP all day.

For the serpentine belt on the front, I thought about running 10 rib but that is for another day. Hope this answers some of your questions. The reason my build is take F_ing for ever is the COG sizes, later I might drop to a 30 tooth on the SC side and slide my 34 Jack Shaft COG back on but not know.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.the370z.com/tuning/71056-...len-s-c-2.html

Yes as soon as you put COGs on it the warranty is void. I am on the phone with Vortec weekly, good customer service and knowledgeable sales people.

Hope this answered some question..

Great info man. I'm picking my car up this afternoon! I'll start with the 34JS/30SC cog setup and a 3.33" serp pulley later this year, then swap out for smaller serp pulleys until JTran tells me to stop. I got an Aeromotive 340 fuel pump and GTR injectors to get me started. I'll find out in the next six months where I'm limited (fuel, MAF, intercooler, etc). A local guy lost 5th gear in his 5AT at around 450 rwhp (awd mustang dyno), I don't know what pulley or rwtq he was running. I also don't see myself ever making boost in 5th gear!! Can you imagine the mph? I'll ask more questions today. How close are you to being finished?

We have a tuner in Tampa named Martin. He has cracked the code for 7AT line pressures. When you get ready to tune let me know and you can see if Martin would send your tuner the MAP. Sounds like a solid set up you are going with. :tiphat:

Order the GTR Plugs 1st (DILKAR8A8 plug has the perfect gap for boost and drops right in your vq37 heads), they are always out of stock. I have been waiting for mine for a month. Also HKS has some 750cc injectors which are perfect for what we are doing.

Motion Lab will be installing a Meth Injection System to try to get the air cooled off. Anything around 12 lbs of boost the Stillen intercooler no longer cools the air. Air to Water Radiator has a larger heat exchanger for 149.00 will help along with getting a larger water res. Other than that not much else we can do to cool the charge down.

As far as being finished I am waiting on Plugs. Everything has been installed, test fitted and removed, I just need to get the plugs in before the intake can be installed. My jack shaft COG will be here tomorrow.

Pro4Jackster 06-04-2013 10:57 PM

I just got the car home. It made 409 rwhp and 300 rwtq. Made about 9-10 psi. AWD Mustang Dyno and about 96 deg outside. First gear is completely useless. Every time I try to get into boost I just break loose and tag the rev limiter. I don't see myself needing more power for a while. JTran Studios has the tuning down too. He upped my line pressure last year for my bolt-on tune. Now I have the Transgo to go with it. Your car is going to be night and day different. I don't have near the upgrades you do and mine is sick. Good luck man. Thanks for answering my questions.

I want to on the 17th or 18th. I gotta get paid, my rims and tires haven't sold yet.. :tiphat: I want to use Martin, I have to get a hold of him and see when he is available. Cool thing about him is he will come over and flash the car so I don't fowl the plugs driving to the dyno. Also has the MAP for 7AT Trans pressures.. Can't wait man!

You have really been a lot of help. I spend most of my time 1500 miles away from my car, so I cannot just walk outside and take measurments. I stock-pile parts, then throw them on when I get a little time at home.

I have decided to go forward with the Cogs sooner than later. I'm going to order your new setup and adjust the hp/tq with the front pulley. But, I would like to verify a couple of your new part numbers:

1) What is the part # of the 350Z 2.5" lipped alum idler pulley set?
2) Are both of your 32T pulleys the 2A033-032?
3) Is your 34T JS pulley still the 4GR032-034?
4) Is the belt for the 34/30 combo still the 2A042-070 (70T, 350Z rev-up)?
5) What did you use to adjust the alignment on the Cog/Idler pulleys? 928 Motorsports - Porsche® 928 Performance Parts - Powerdyne and Vortech® Pulley Spacers - Porsche® 928 World record Holder 216.63537 mph

Thank you in advance. I appologize for being a pain in the butt. I need to Paypal you some cash for a 6-pack of beer for doing all of this test-fitting and info-sharing!

Thank you in advance.
Sorry for the delay, I was out of town and I wanted to verify the part numbers before posting them for you. Don't want you to have to go back and forth for stuff.

1) Idler Pulley Set: 4GR116-300 $38.95

2) Jack Shaft:
a. 32tooth/4GR032-032 $94.00
b. 34tooth/4GR032-034 $94.00
COG's: 32tooth/35mm wide/ 24033-032 $94.00 *** Recommended, 35mm wide is not made in any other tooth size. They have a 30 tooth COG in a 50mm width. Which works if you build a support strut to keep the SC Plat from flexing under load.

4) Yes thats the size for 30/50mm SC COG & 34/20mm Jack Shaft COG. Also will work with 32/35mm SC COG & 32/20mm Jack Shaft COG: Belt is a Gates 20mm 70 tooth/ 2A042-070 $34.95

5) a. Idler Pulley (Smooth Aluminum w/Flang) is 4GR116-300 $38.95
b. When you buy the impeller get a set of shims. I didn't need any with mine but every SC is different. You might need to shim it to get the right clearances in the compressor. 928 Motorsports - Porsche® 928 Performance Parts - Set of 4 Impeller Shims for*Powerdyne, Vortech®, Paxton Superchargers - Porsche® 928 World record Holder 216.63537 mph
c. Pulley Spacers for the COG's not needed. What is needed is longer grade 8 bolt for the SC side, take the rib SC pulley off and take that bolt to Home Depot and match the threads. You will see what I mean when you take off the rib pulley from the SC the COG is wider depending on which one you use the 50mm is much wider than the 35mm. Will need a longer bolt.
d. Order a set of KEYS when you get your COGs. The keys keep the COGs from spinning on the shaft.

Vortech Superchargers

:tiphat:

Pro4Jackster 06-10-2013 10:04 PM

I ordered it all today! Thank you so much. I'll be home in about a week. If everything comes in from Vortech, I'll be attempting the Cogs and getting a retune! I hope I have enough injector, or I'll be dropping back down to the low boost pulley for now.

I have also been talking to ATI about building an Oversized HR/VHR Super Damper Crank Pulley. He has N/A ones in stock with a 15% under-drive, but that would be useless to us. I'm not sure what is acceptable for "overspinning" stock accessories, but I would think 5-10% (6"-6.375") would be ok to live with. That would be a good way to get a few more RPMs out of the Vortech, combat belt slip, and also get the benefits of a Super Damper thats more suited to our new HP/TQ levels. He has thrown around a few $$, and said he could knock off a couple hundred bucks if we could get 10 people interested. Final price is still going to be over half of a G, so its not for everyone. I have no interest in organizing a group buy, because I just make a better lurker. So if someone wants to take this idea and make it happen, I can pass on the information I have so far. If not, then I'll just pay full price after I finish my research.

I apologize for bringing this up in your Journal, but it seems to be a good hangout for the people who would be interested.

Mr&Mrs 06-10-2013 10:23 PM

I work the night before but he could just do yours first. I need to see what a retune fee is also.

Well today I spent the day working on the car.. Yesterday kellyefields came over and we got the intake on. So today started with TB's, Intercooler Lines and dressing up the wiring. I started to install the compressor but had some clearance problems. Thanks to Mr. Squeeze I was able to finish installing the Compressor. I needed to clearance the block for the flanges on the idler pulley.

Tomorrow I will wrap the ART test pipes and re-install the exhaust. Hopefully I can get Sophie off the jack stands tomorrow.. :happydance: Will post some finished pictures when I get the intake tube on tomorrow..

Here are some images of the SC COGs. There is a huge diffrence between a 35mm and 50mm.

Damn,
Finally done, just gotta put the front clip on. She does whine pretty good. I ran it and set the fuel pressure. Then I let it warm up for a while, you can tell the computer is on crack. Martin will come over Tuesday morning to flash it. Then we are off to the dyno :happydance:.

I have a small you tube bite, you can here it drop and surge. No smoke, no leaks, can't weight to get it on the road. Some one better buy my Rims and Tires before Tuesday :tiphat: there might no be much tire left :driving:.

Hope fully Kelly will come over Monday and help me bleed the brakes and go for a slow drive..

The morning of the 18th Martin will come over and flash the car, after we will go strait to the DYNO. $400 for the tune. I wanted him specifically because of the work he has done mapping the 7AT trans. Probably be at the shop by 1000. :tiphat:

Thanks guys,

Mr&Mrs 06-18-2013 02:45 PM

nice numbers today brother!

Nut_N_Much 06-18-2013 03:04 PM

Okay,
So the Dyno we used is a Dyno Jet designed for 500hp car and more also it was about 101 degrees with about 35% humidity. Typical Tampa Summer not so good for dyno numbers. We started with 3 baseline runs and found out the water pump came unplugged some how so we fixed it and let the car cool off.

The we went to work, first we firmed up the 7AT shifts and started our pulls. At the end we topped out at 397 rwhp with a very nice smooth progression on the chart. On a good northerner day I am sitting at 430 rwhp.

I was expecting more, Mr. Squeeze put out 465 with the same set up but we just weren't seeing those numbers. Martin wanted to throw a bag of ice in the reservoir to get some decent numbers in this weather but I don't give a fly f_ck about that right know. I have some detailed work to do before I get all cray technical with my numbers. I should get an email of the chart today or tomorrow to post.

What i think my problem is "besides weather" the compressor. I never had it bench tested. I didn't shim out the impeller or have the compressor flow checked. So that's my next project. I should be pushing 56k with that impeller and I don't think I am. Till then for Auto X I'll throw a bag of ice in the reservoir and gain about 30hp right off the bat.. :tiphat:

All in all it was a good day, I had Zero boost leaks or issues. Not bad for a home install. I love the Blue Interior lights (tnx Osiris)..
