Good day today, we got Kelly's motor out and started to move the accessories over to the new motor. He has been trying to sell his Super Charger but he keeps getting guy's trying to low ball the price.
Might just re-install the SC on the new motor.. :tiphat: |
Awesome! He sending it out for work or doing a core swap for a crate motor?
|

I couldn't believe he found this engine, what a buy.. :tiphat: |
So is it built? Or is he putting new internals in it? Why the swap if just for another stock block?

Dang I would of just shipped the new one to the builder and only swap motors once.
|
Ya, he is retiring from War Fighting, needs it running before a possible move. Nothings set but the last thing you need is an expensive engine build when your looking for a new career.
When I retire I'm fishing !!! |
Yaaaa....
Got my impeller shims from 928 today.. :happydance: |
Rob,
Got your paint today but the demon eye LEDs didn't come in.. :tiphat: |
So....im off Tuesday then work like 11 days straight. I will get the lights out and you can come pick them up and the F.I exhaust if you want. You can just flip me a few bucks if and when you sell the exhaust, no biggy. At this point I just want it out of my house.
I can meet you half way if you want also or I will give you some gas money because I really dont feel like driving anywhere :icon17: |

Saw a thread on custom hoods a while back. http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...ml#post2417434 DIGItonium posted some pictures of a hood he did, thank you for leading the way. Its a simple design and looks good, also looks like its low enough on the hood to be functional.

Well was going to rest this morning but I had to re-arrange the garage. I adopted a metal band saw and a standing drill press. Still need a small welder for Aluminum. Cutting this hood may speed that purchase up, I want to use all metal if i can.
This afternoon I met a couple of awesome people, Mike and Joel. Mike needed Springs installed. So we hooked him up. If anyone out there is selling you springs with Infinity Struts on them, Don't pay more for the strut. Those struts will NOT work on a Z, the studs are to short and wont clear the Strut Ring making it impossible to get a nut started. If the seller says they will fit remember a car guy that does this work daily is telling you they wont fit! We got Mike's springs swapped on to the Z struts, the springs slammed his ride. Joel came by for paint, I do need to apologize to him. We didn't get to his lights and like typical Florida weather it started raining like crazy. I never got to do his lights. That doesn't happen often and if you see this post I am sorry. :tiphat: So, back out to work on hood. Adjusting the cut lines to ensure I have the clearance for the 1 inch drop into the engine bay. :driving: |
Nice progress :)
Quick question here for the stillen sc guru... Turbosmart BOV is in there and my mechanic is wondering if it's adjustable. You see, the placement of the BOV just makes it hard to adjust (if possible. He says it's impossible) the spring rate of the BOV. Can you hear your BOV? I don't :( On the side note, my car gets STUPID rich when I hit boost and put it to neutral AF 9.8 ish Thinking it's the BOV causing the problem :p |
Don't know the spring pressure, I don't here mine open up either. BOV is adjustable, adjust this BOV simply by twisting the top of the body itself, rotate it clockwise for a harder spring rate (for those of you at sea level) and counter-clockwise for a softer spring rate (for those in higher elevation)Technical Articles | Adjusting Your Bov Or Bpv 1 | Turbosmart USA. If it was on and not set right before tuning it may now be a tuning issue.
There are some other things it might be but tuning is the most common. Worse case might be when the kit was installed and the fuel pressure regulator was drilled it may have gone to deep and ruptured the diaphragm. My kit is starving for fuel even with my pressure regulator set at 60. Weird how this stuff works differently on each car.. |

Stayed home from work today.. Made this ! Its a TPMS Bomb. Had a customer ask how to turn off his dash light. His rims wouldn't allow him to use the sensors so I made this. Throw all 4 in here and pressurize it to 40 pounds, throw it in the trunk and call it a day.. Anyone needs this let me know.. :tiphat: I didn't want to take his dash apart at $80.00 and hour just for the light.

Sunday has been very productive... Started with getting the drill press ready for Kelly. He was going to drill out the holes for the Strut Brackets everyone ordered. When he got here he said they weren't in the boxes the supplier shipped. Worked out great  we started working on Robs lights right away; got the body filler on and sanded smooth, just need to wet sand tonight and done.
Lunar-Eclipse came over at noon and we pulled his lights apart. Gave him a fresh paint job and color matched the shrouds to his 40th Edition Z. Tell you what man, I need a shop. Freaking creature fly's in and starts a trek through the freshly painted light. Damn it!!! Go walkabout some were else! Lights still look good, I just need a creature free paint area.. :tiphat: Went digging through my old photo's and found my truck. I miss that beast but the bank account is a hole lot better now I am not spending $240.00 a week on gas . Ordered some bolt on valve stems for my TPMS Bomb's. Looks like a few people really needed them. Who would have thought!!!! I made some stickers up that say RUN !!!!! in big letters to put on the side of these things. Might scale the size of the bomb down a little, 3inch tubing is a little beefy. :tiphat: |
Joe, you and Kelly did a great job and the lights look incredible. They change the whole look of the car.
Here are a few more pictures after I gave the car a bath. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_173846.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_173900.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_173921.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_173932.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_173945.jpg Here is a closeup so you can see the difference between the black housing and the 40th gray turn signal shroud. The projector shroud got the same treatment. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_174000.jpg http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e1...929_174325.jpg It was good to meet you guys and Joe thank your wife for the snack for me. |
Great shots, I'm gonna steel some for my album. Great meeting you brother, my wife thanks you for her Grocery Money :).
Awesome Z owner Joel AKA Lunar-Eclipse.....:driving: |
Kellyefields engine is done. We added fluids tonight, tighten down everything, installed the exhaust and fired it up. No Dash lights, running smooth at 1000rpms, warmed up and dropped to 700rpms.
He is gonna get the LEDs all wired up and should be on the road Sunday:happydance: New Engine Start Up - YouTube . |

Got my rims and tires back today.. Also helped out Kelly prime his cooling system. Herd a knocking sound on the way over to his house and found that the sway bar connecting bolts were gone. The thing was just bouncing on the frame supports. Thats what I get for taking it to an alignment shop. Don't understand why they would need to remove the sway mounts. I got SPC adjustable camber arms and toe bolts.
Thank god the bushings and brackets are still there, just need 3 new bolts. |

Little DIY for ya... My Sway Bolts were stolen by gremlins so I went to LOWES and got the bolts I needed. Also saw some grease fittings so I bought a few.
I drilled a hole in each bracket and tapped the hole to match the threads and pitch of the grease fitting. When I get under the car I'll make a small grove on the polyurethane bushing to allow the grease to disperse evenly under the bracket. Started working on the Hood, should have the radius's cut today..Will update tonight. Nothing new, I sure its been don before on the forum. Just thought it mad sense to do. Cut down on wearing out bushings for all you AutoX guy's. http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...6-img-1327.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...7-img-1328.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...8-img-1329.jpg |

Got the hood cut today. Kelly wanted a 3rd vent down low. I had a bad feeling about this but Its been done. Funny thing is once you cut there is no going back so I made it work.
I think some cross sections will need welded in to sturdy up the hood for high speeds. :tiphat: |
Found out today that my Tune is corrupt! There are two MAPS on the tune one for Cold one for Hot. At 75 or 80 degree's the ECM switches from the cold map to the hot. For some reason my tune isn't allowing my car to switch over. This is causing my engine to starve (Feels like missing or bad plugs). Good thing is Martin is re-writing the MAP and will Dyno Tune it tomorrow free of charge.
Free was the only word I herd while he was discussing the issue with me:tup:. Will take a video and post numbers tomorrow. :driving:. Just in time for Z Fest Sat. |
Hey Joe, can you PM me the place you trust to tune your car? I need to get uprev and get tuned and am looking for a good place.
|
Not place but person... Martin, he is the UpRev rep for this region and an excellent tuner. Just got done with Faya's car Friday.. He works out of multiple shops, they contact him for Nissan Tunes.
He may Dyno you out of Fever Racing off DaleMabry and Clarke Ave, just remember that the Tuning is separate from the shop. You will see what I mean when you go there :) 813-817-5601 tell him Joe Fortune sent you, thats his Cell.. |
Trying to get a set of these made for me. Lenso will start carrying after X-Mas, working to get them to offer in our offsets, no spacers needed.. Hope it works out, would like to go back to 19's

Followed the DIY posted above and got the gauges in and working.. Wiring diagram that came with gauges. Running Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Boost, Volt, Trans Temp. http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...wer-gauges.jpg This was what the DIY said the stock wiring was: http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...-wire-loom.jpg Stock plug on dash: http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...ge-cluster.jpg Need to trim some more to get the hose clamp as far back as you can get it. This does 2 things for you. Allows the clamp to mount flat, also allows the worm screw to sit just behind the dash pad when you insert it to the dash. http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...31-resized.jpg Face.. http://www.the370z.com/members/nut_n...38-resized.jpg All good, all works, i just need a few adapters to add to the lines for the sensors. :tiphat: |
Nice to see you working on the Z again Joe!
