Looks sick dude, can't wait for the photoshoot. I hear Isamu is coming down your way soon, maybe you can use him as your model :rofl2:

Takes out any risk of the model taking away attention from the car. In fact it would attract even more attention to the car :roflpuke2:

Congrats!

My car put down 668/711 @ 10lbs. before my exhaust swap. I changed out the whole exhaust system over the winter. It had Edelbrock headers, high flow cats and a Borla on it. Now it has Belanger headers, no cats and a Random Technology exhaust with Dynomax mufflers. I'm hoping to put down closer to 700 with a new intake system, 70mm TB's and my AEM. Soon it will also have new 2 piece rotors, McLeod twin disk and I'm probably going to change out the 3.55 gears for some 3.33 or stock 3.07 gears. If you are looking to bump the power of your car I would consider going the head and cam route. Greg Good is the best in the business and he can get you a head and cam package that will rival what my car makes for power. |
Video from the drive home
Anyone want to try to help me diagnose this noise? I went to a wedding last night and gave 2 friends a ride back to back. Nothing funny yet. About an hour later, I start it up to give the groom a ride and the noises started. I drove about a mile down the road and came right back since the noises didn't go away. The squeeling noise wasn't coming from the belt/pullies, but I couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from. The car started to misfire on the way home. We put an OBD-II scanner to it and it's not pulling any codes. I tried to crank the car and now the car won't start and the CEL blinked a few times and then would go steady. My car is too low on KW V2s to get a jack under it to drain the oil and check for any metal. |
Well, I'm at a crossroads...motor is definitely blown. Most likely the common #3/4 rod bearing, but the car tries to crank and then locks. I don't have the money to rebuild it ($10k+/-), but I don't know if I can get anything out of it if I sell it as is. My bad luck continues with cars...

Ryan! noooo...
Any smoke at all after those two trips? Was the oil level ok? Any leaks? |
How many miles did you put on it after this?
I know in illiniois you have a very limited warrenty on a older/used car, state law. |

Oh man, sorry to hear about your continued car troubles OP, best of luck sorting it out.
I thought the Viper was relatively reliable but who know's how the previous owner treated it |
Ryan, what are your options at this point!? I honestly don't know what I'd do if I were in your shoes.

Please do keep us posted on the estimate and best of luck. |
Wow, that really bites. I know how you're feeling right now Ryan but don't give up on the car hobby. I don't know too much about Gen 3&4 cars but I have read of guys getting the crank drilled for better lubrication. While this sort of thing sucks it gives you a reason to build the motor. Roe Racing offers some pretty affordable rotating assembly packages but before you buy anything you should take the engine out and see what is salvageable. Hopefully you can reuse the crank and no other parts were damaged by the contaminated oil. Wish I lived near you so I could help you pull the engine.

any updates?

 Im so sorry bro, once you get it diagnosed if it is a common warranty issue I would be writing Dodge a letter. It does not hurt to try and get some sympathy parts from these car manufactures, and maybe just pay labor costs. It never hurts to try!

How did I miss this thread????? Just read through the entire thread, sorry to hear the bad news Ryan... I wish you good luck with the tear down.

Tata for now... the car was towed Thursday to Elite Automotive in Lakeland, FL. I'm going strictly off of a reference from a friend of a friend. I contacted Heffner Performance, but never heard back from them. A guy I've known for 8 years (used to have a built TT 350Z and now has had a Viper for 5 years) gave me his friend's number (Lee Suanders), who owns a couple Vipers that were built by Elite Automotive. Google his name and Viper and you will see that I'm in good hands:tup:
