You got yourself a project there. LOL I take it that you are using argon gas for purging. When purging the tubing. You can use painters blue tape around the joints that need to be sealed. Put your purge line in the lowest point, and let it vent out at the highest point.

Some cutting, sanding, swearing.....
It is not an easy task if you never done it ! Well today it was my first ! after a few hours this is where the Y-pipe sit at . I wanted a edit: Deleted Secret matter from my Angle Table. There is only 4 tacks holding it and I will be waiting for Payday to get that second regulator for back purging then I'm gonna cut it at the proper length. Btw I got the quote on the complete kit of Cams/Pistons/Rings/springs setup. Its a bit more than I expected *3600$shipped/tax/custom Included* This is why I ended getting the exhaust parts *2500$* first while its still warm outside, and that engine will get pulled out during the winter as what the plan is now I cant really bring the Tig Welder at the garage since I might pop the 10-15amp breaker and it could take days before I get the power back (slow administration) Last edited by Megan370z; 12-04-2013 at 04:12 PM. |

my last exhaust parts order came in today !
From Burns stainless; edit: Deleted Secret matter ------------------------------------------ Modified V-Band flange 2.5'' & 3.5'' The one on the bottom right one is for showing the difference. Inside Taper cut (10deg) for a smoother transition going out of the Resonator & HFC for a reduced turbulence effect. Because every exhaust component (resonator/HFC/muffler) are measured for an ID diameter of 2.5'' & 3.5'' which the V-Band are for a 2.5'' OD tubing , If I wouldn't have done a taper cut, there would be a lip of 1/16 all around the Inside and causing turbulence for a straight reduced diameter. Every Tweaking count ! Now, I'm waiting on my dual regulator for my Tig welder. It should be here in about a week ! Last edited by Megan370z; 12-04-2013 at 04:13 PM. |

I calculated the cost and time it could take me for a second one and the price would be out of reach of most can afford. 400-450$ for what is shown on the picture without the modified V-Band. +125$ with. Could be lower if I had proper tools !!!!!!! My exhaust setup will be different than OEM. Not sure how much of a gain there is with a single 3.5'' exhaust on the VVEL engine. EDIT; dual 2.5'' = 8.823 sq. Inch ID single 3.5'' = 8.9197 sq. Inch ID So almost the same possible flow The throat measurement on my Y-Pipe is edit: Deleted Secret matter Last edited by Megan370z; 12-04-2013 at 04:13 PM. |

I'm quite a ways off from messing with my exhaust further, but I imagine mine will eventually be a single as well, someday. I think it would weigh less, and it would be easier to do a rear diffuser. Maybe move the rearmost section and the exit way up high to clear the diffuser completely.
For now I'm happy with my FI catback, although it's getting a little worse for wear (I've banged up the cans spinning out over tall kerbing...). |

I will make sure to keep a record on every bent and cut I will do. Tonight I decided to ditch the idea of cutting into my Momentum for the possible idea of making a copy of my exhaust if someone want to get the same. this way its gonna be easier to repeat the same process. Just a reminder in case you could be interested in the future, This part would have to be modified to look like the one on the 350z. |

Another Update !
The passenger side is almost completed, only waiting to be Tig Welded I know in the pass my intent was to modify the Momentum. I also want to make a medium length header within the next year. The decision was I wont bother too much with the Momentum. I will only add the transition directly on the flange and call it a day. The resonator is actually pointing toward the Y-pipe a little bit without interfering with the transmission bracket, this is why its not contacting the X-pipe completely which is properly aligned with the driver side. I also gained about 1/2'' to 3/4'' of ground clearance. Yes, I tested it on the car already Last edited by Megan370z; 09-01-2013 at 01:27 PM. |

Guess what ?
Am I doing another update on the same day ? Yup. After some measurement checking this morning with the passenger side, I jumped on the driver side ! I forgot how pain in the *** it was to remove the PPE LTH on the driver side. Im not looking forward to install it back tomorrow night. On the good note, it took me a bit less time to make the driver side tubing setup than it was with the passenger side. OEM header/Cats Vs PPE Stepped Long Tube Header Vs Momentum/Shorty Test Pipe Custom exhaust 2013 Passenger Side completed , waiting to be Tig Welded Custom exhaust 2013 Driver Side completed , waiting to be Tig Welded Seem like that I'm glad I kept the Blown VVEL engine So far I've done 16 hours on these and 8 hours on the Y-Pipe. !! This include everything , not just cutting the tubing, but also the labour required to remove the headers/shorty test pipe back and forth, some break time. |

2 hours later the second resonator is now completed !
as you can see now, the flow path will be a bit shorter than it was with the X-Pipe and quite a bit shorter than the OEM Y-pipe. |

Exhaust Update
I just finish welding the Shorty Test Pipes and Y-Pipe this morning!
Last weekend, after finishing tacking the Y-Pipe Ver.1 I discovered the clearance between the end of it and the driveshaft was a little bit too close *1/2''* If I wanted to keep a better ground clearance at the same time. I had to modify 2 bents and shortening a pipe to allow having the exit end of the Y-Pipe to be a little bit offset from the center going toward the right side of car. Its been7 Years I haven't really welded anything serious other than minor stuff at work for like 15 sec welding time on aluminum/steel. Welding Stainless has been since 10 years I haven't touch it but I knew the basic. |
