Coming home from work the other morning. Playing around with camera settings. 1080p, 48 fps, Mid. Polarized filter. Camera at ear level. Think it has to be down some to clear the mirror. What do you all think?

Nice vid, camera down just a hair or two.

Down, forward and slightly to the right should give a perfect view through the windshield.

Looking good....

Rusty 05-09-2013 08:15 PM

Looks good. What did they use for the hose rducer?

dmhenderson 05-09-2013 08:16 PM

I used those dust thingies you recommended.

Rusty 05-09-2013 08:18 PM

Worked out ok then. I notice that your ducts sit farther to the outside then mine.

dmhenderson 05-09-2013 08:19 PM

They actually don't. Look at the first picture. You just can't see the "lip" around the ducts very well because they're painted.

Rusty 05-09-2013 08:21 PM

Might be about an inch differance between the two. ;)

Rusty 05-09-2013 08:24 PM

Oh, I got a trackday this coming Tuesday at Pittsbugh International. :driving: So I'll find out how well my set-up is. :excited:

Rusty 05-14-2013 08:29 PM

Did my first trackday of the year at PittRace. Had a great time. :driving: The Nismo work well. Oil temps never got over 200F. because it was a cold day. 40F in the morning, warming up to 55F when we was done. Brakes worked good with the duct work. Using YellowStuff pads. No brake dust on the rims. Thinking the air through the ducts was blowing it off. I had trouble finding the limits of the Mich PSS's. I got alot to learn. The car is better then me.

Had a '09 Viper ACR crashed 2 turns in front of me in session 1. It was the owners first time on the track. 600hp car with Mich Sport Cups and cold temps, and driving over his head caught him out. Now I have to wash the anti-freeze off of the Nismo from him. Felled really bad for the guy. First timer with a car that had a 1000 miles on it. His dream turned into a nightmare. Wanted to take a picture of it but out of respect, I didn't.

Have another trackday next month. :driving: Trying to down my videos to youtube now. Think that will take a fews days to do.

Rusty 05-15-2013 07:31 PM

Forgot to add. "phunk's" fuel starvation kit worked great. Diid 3 sessions on one tank of gas. Never once hinted at fuel starvation. Was down to 1 light on the fuel gauge when I was done for the day. Took 17 gallons to refill it. Thanks "phunk". :tiphat:

Welcome to the forum.

An extra quart of oil. The Z likes to heat the oil up when you track them. With the spacer and 34 row Z1 oil cooler. My Z takes 7 quarts of oil now. Read through some of the posts on here. You will see oil temps on the Z are high. When the temps get to 280F. The car goes into limp mode. The engine won't rev over 3500 rpms (I believe), until the oil cools off.

Here's are video from my trackday at Pittsburgh International Raceway. It's from session 1, where I come up on the Viper that crashed.

Pittsburgh international? Looks like beaver run. Been awhile since I been out. Did they change the name? Hated this track, to flat for me. I need hills and banks like mid ohio. Good vid, nice car by the way

FYI was only on bikes, not cars.

Rusty 06-06-2013 05:28 AM

Yea, it's Beaverun. New owners, new name, same track. I've done trackdays there with my RC51 a few years back.

Great Post! God I miss RC51s. I never got to own one but I rode it years back. I love that bike.

I sold the last one ever to a kid. 2 weeks later walks back in wanting another with full body rash on his face etc. I laughed and was mad and told him forget it, you destroyed the last one dumb ***.

Actually I lied. I forgot at my old work we hung this one and I put the dummy on. Brand NEW Nicky Hayden addition. We had a bunch of rider names, special editions hanging from the ceiling all brand new never ridden. I hung all the dummies haha.

AutoTecknic Aluminum Tow Hook - Nissan 350Z

Hey Rusty,
I was wondering if you could help me in answer the following questions.
I know the part that bolts onto the Crash bar is M24x3, but how about the opposing part? This should be a universal standard size right? Is it M18xsomething? Please let me know if you happen to know the answer.
http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...psab7656d4.png

How about the length of thread part?
http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...psbfb3a46e.png

And one last question, how long should the rod be for a Nismo bumper?
http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/o...psac453117.png

I want to send this part out today so I can get it back before track, please let me know if you happen to know the answer. Thanks again!

Rusty 06-13-2013 03:59 PM

Make the shaft 2 1/4" longer. Depending on who makes your tow hook. Where the hook screws on at, may be a different thread. It would be best to have your machine shop make you a copy of it, only longer. Here is the thread I did on it. I won't be home until late tonight to look at mine.

I have to machine down alittle OD on the 4" side of the reducer so that it slides into the brake duct, shortening the overall length.

Hi Rusty - Great build!

I'm getting ready to install a set of brake ducts and am wondering where you got the 4" to 2" reducers.

Thanks!

Here you go. I had to machine down the big end to fit inside the brake duct.

Hi Rusty - can you answer a couple other questions please?

It looks like the Stillen duct kit you ordered was for a standard 370Z as it looks like it has bumper duct brackets. Since you have actual Nismo ducts, couldn't you have just ordered the kit designed for the Stillen fascia that deletes those brackets?

From what I've seen on your thread, since I have the Nismo ducts and the reducers you listed, all I really need is the Stillen kit made for a Stillen fascia. Since there is a $56 difference in price between the two kits, it seemed worth asking the question.

When you cut the right duct in what direction did you make it point to avoid the washer reservoir; i.e. down and to the center of the car?

Your advice and time is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Yea, I got the regular Stillen kit. Had something in mind that didn't pan out. So I could have save a few bucks on it if I got the kit for the Stillen bumper.

Position your ducts close to the grille opening. This makes it easier to miss the washer bottle with the duct hose. Once you cut the opening in the bumper. You will have to see for yourself on the best place to position the hose past the washer bottle. Took me about 4 tries. Click on the picture to make it bigger. I position my hose to run along next to the power steering hoses. It will take you a couple of times of trimming everything to fit right. I ended up gluing the duct and the reducer together.

Hi Rusty - Thank you very much for the help.

Where exactly did you position your ducts; i.e. how close to the grille (vertical axis) and the bottom edge of the bumper (horizontal axis)?

If the washer bottle was removed would mounting be easier? Mines in the trunk :)

I made templates by tracing around the outside edge of the ducts. Then I position the templates on the bumper. Held them on with tape. Drilled a couple of small holes in the center of the template to check on my positioning. Think I ended up about 1 1/2" away from the grille opening. Should of gone closer. Like 1 1/4". As for up and down. I position the template about in the middle of the body line on top and the spoiler on the bottom.

I can't get to my Nismo for a couple of days to look at it. I'm on vacation, 4wheeling my Power Wagon. :D If you still have questions, feel free to ask.

shaun66 06-27-2013 02:28 AM

Cool truck! Snorkal ever come in handy?

gurneyeagle 06-27-2013 07:19 AM

That's what I needed to know Rusty. Thank you for taking time from your vacation to answer my question.

My only concern is making sure that the duct fits flush with the bumper. I noticed that the top outside edge of each duct has a slight contour to match the bumper as it curves around and I didn't want to cut a hole that was an inch out of alignmnet one way or another.

Again, apologies for interupting your vacation. Have a great time and check back when you can.

Did a track yesterday after doing a 12hr nightshift. Talk about being wiped out. :icon14: Well anyway. Had a good time and still learning. Finding my limits are higher now and needing to change a couple of things on the Nismo to suit. Like I need coilovers now. On a couple of corners, feel like I'm riding on the bump stops. Which is beating me up some. :icon14: And need more camber on both front and rear. Need camber arms for the front. Here's a couple of pic's of the tires. Will post video's later, after youtube gets done with them.

sig11 07-20-2013 02:11 PM

Doesn't look too bad. Camber arms will help a ton though. :P

wstar 07-20-2013 03:27 PM

Yeah front camber is really lacking on this car, especially once you put stiffer springs on that drop the car a little. Personally, I haven't had any real issue with rear camber at stock settings. I just adjust the rear Hotchkis bar to balance out the car a bit in the oversteer direction and my rear tires wear pretty evenly as they slip around. Maybe it starts becoming more of an issue after you *do* get the front camber kicked out to a good value and you need to balance things up again.
