I'll eventually be looking for a cover so let us know what you think after some weather.

I purchased a 4 layer cover from Pep boys that is damn good 4 the $. It is a outdoor cover that can even be used in the snow. I purchased the same size as the 350z and it might be just a little 2 small because it doesn't fit over the entire rear wheels or bumper. Other than that it was one of my best purchases. I'm also installing a clear bra tomorrow.

Nice dyno charts :) I don't know if we've seen a Dyno Dynamics baseline before. Now you see why Engine Logics is such a heartbreaker, DD reads so low compared to the DynoJets, etc :)

theDreamer 08-06-2009 09:08 AM

Intakes arrived yesterday and are installed, here are some quick pictures of them installed. Also received my new shift knob and really liking it, probably have found my perfect shift knob. After I get the dyno results on Monday I will do a nice write up on the intakes and shift knob, want to give them some time to break in.

Overall I am pleased with the intakes so far, normal driving (not getting on it much) has not changed anything as I can tell. Revving past 4k and 50% to WOT really changes the sound of the car. So far I have really enjoyed the sound change, overall not much change in power but probably not much gained.

Results are in and we need to have a discussion about some things. Overall the gains are zero to negative by 2HP and plus 1 torque. The major question though is, now the car is running much richer how will this affect later tuning or additional parts?

I understand that the numbers for HP or Torque, but I want to know what will happen when tuning this car if the power loss can be created later? Here are the graphs for your viewing pleasure.

First up is HP & A/F, which shows three runs from today.

Now HP & A/F comparison of my two best runs from my first dyno and today.

Damn, those numbers aren't exciting at all.
Did u reset ecu and drive for a few days before dyno run??

theDreamer 08-11-2009 11:19 AM

Intakes were on the car Wednesday night last week, probably have put on over 150 miles on them (at least). Drove 100 miles yesterday alone but last week I probably only drove a bit since the weekend I did not drive.
Only thing I really did not do was unplug the battery/reset.

nogoodname 08-11-2009 11:25 AM

U should, it will help or u can try Shum's cheat code and reset without disconnecting battery.

theDreamer 08-11-2009 11:31 AM

Just unplugged the battery, will let it sit while I eat some lunch.

Shunya 08-11-2009 11:57 AM

that sure doesnt sound too happy...

theDreamer 08-11-2009 12:14 PM

Nope, but with the A/F ration messed up we can see why there are no gains, but they are on and will stay for the time till I figure out more. I would not buy these gain if I had the choice.

I will say that with this car, you either need to go CAI or stay stock, it seems a SRI system is just not going to show any power gains for this car.

nogoodname 08-11-2009 12:34 PM

Remember to window reset it when bat is connected.
15 seconds hold down and 15 hold up.

Yep, just plugged the battery back in and closed the door after starting the car and the windows did not go up. Co-worker was like, your window is broken now. Quick reset of the windows, few stations re-programmed into the radio and the car is good to go now.

I or we are hoping with tuning this intake will show a good gain it has obviously done something to his A/F ratio by dropping it from about 12-13 to 11-12. Maybe this will allow the tuner to lean it out a tad more producing a bit better performance than a stock car? However I do have to agree ultimately I am disappointed in the results and expected a gain of 10-12 in both h.p. and t.q.

Unless he is making more than 20-30 horses more he wont be able to feel if there is a difference.

Seems like you two have a solid relationship. You know how sensitive his butt dyno is. ;) :icon18:

Seriously, though, thanks for testing this for us. I was hoping you'd see a gain but was kind of thinking this was going to end this way with the short-ram design. I think I'm sold on Injen now.

nogoodname 08-11-2009 12:58 PM

LOL........ to both of you.

theDreamer 08-11-2009 01:08 PM

Injen or Stillen seem to be solid pics, though currently Stillen is the wiser choice with independent results that show solid gains.

There are independent results available for the g37 that suggest the Injen intakes are fairly close to Stillen's G3. For me, it's a matter of not wanting to cut anything on the car and the ease of a dry filter.

Diversion 08-11-2009 04:27 PM

That makes no sense at all.. There should be a gain, even if air is coming in hotter.. The fact that the larger diameter tubing potentially leans the engine out a hair should net more than the SAME HP or 1 hp. Something's going on.. I'll have to get my car dyno'd.. but unfortunately I don't have a base line to work with. I have shorties.

But it is richer now, not leaner.

Why is it running richer now?
Is the ECU compensating for the removal of the stock airboxes and stuffing the A/F or is there some other reason.

Have you tried this with some Cobb port or some tuneable chip?

nogoodname 08-12-2009 03:10 AM

^ op mentioned just ecu reset only

Car has been reset, not going back to the dyno until the next install which has now been set. Just put my name on the order list for the Berk Tech Cat-back exhaust, current time line is first orders will ship out from Sept./Oct. so hopefully I will have it on quickly after that.

theDreamer 10-03-2009 12:41 PM

New updated, non-performance:
~Rear fog light on, but not wired yet. I am still debating how exactly I am going to wire it in. Switch Panel on console seems to be the best solution and with the find by M.J. I think I found my exact solution. Just need to head to Austin to have a friend do the wiring.
Will also do the kick plate install while in Austin, and if needed dump my ECU off at Uprev if they need/want it.

Berk exhaust has been delayed till December, but with that I might just buy Berk HFC to do the install all at the same time. My only other decision before the end of the year is new intake. Takeda is out and the only two solutions currently are Stillen or Injen.

Stillen:
+Very solid gains
+Great position in car
-Cutting

Injen:
+Solid gains
+Nice position in car
+Cheaper

Looking for some input from anyone who has had Stillen long term and their thoughts. Injen is still new and a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon since the Injen do not require you to cut anything. After being hurt by Takeda I feel like I should not take any shortcuts anymore, buy the best proven, which seems to be Stillen.

Got my three switches in today and they are a very quick install, did not shave the edges but probably will in a minute. They "fit" without shaving them but they will scratch up the fabric if you are not careful.

Edit: Just shaved the edges slightly, they do not touch now, but do not see any marks left from the before putting them in unshaved.
