Ron's better late than never journal. Lots of Pics!
Ok so I've been postponing this because I never thought I would mod fast enough as to keep a nice journal. Well I've made quite a few things in the last 10 months and there is BIG step coming in the next few so I figured I'd start my journal.
Pics of the car at the dealership. I wasn't even on the country yet. I was still in Costa Rica getting everything straight and my old Z32 sold before moving back to Houston. Needless to say I lost many hours of sleep when I was sent this pictures since I still had a couple of weeks left in CR before traveling: http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...01223-1902.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010330.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010332.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...01223-1849.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010339.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010340.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010345.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...dic2010356.jpg |
The beginning
And then the mod bug bit me.. again..First thing I added was a GTR start button, Illuminated kick plates, Fairlady Z badge and tint... Not very interesting so no pics of that...
After a while I could not stand the stock ride height, so I bought SPC front and back camber arms and toe bolts (thanks to THMotorsports), Swift springs (Thank you Kami) and Z1 20mm spacers. I don't have pics of the parts since I was too excited to complete the install but this is the end result: http://i56.tinypic.com/15cy2qb.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/334u7oo.jpg I also added these to my wheels thanks to Mike! http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...3/IMG_0984.jpg |
Chrome is so yesterday!
After the springs I wanted to do my headlights. MRWorks was charging too much so I decided to use the DIY posted here and well, do it myself. I went with just a satin black housing and left everything else stock. It came out looking awesome, its not overboard.

Silver fuel gauge needed to be dealt with, I saw Simota's black overlay but I wanted something better than a sticker...So my good friend (we haven't met, but I can tell he's a cool dude) Digitonium had this for sale. It's made by Black Cat Customs. He had one made for his interior lighting project and this one to spare. I followed his DIY and bam! This is the outcome, I love it!:

I reached the point where I could not stand the factory audio combined with cabin noise. So I purchased a Sony XNV-770BT, a rear view camera, Axxess ASWC and a set of Alpine Type S speakers. Thanks to BigAudioFanat, Equinox and all the other guys that answered my questions about the equipment and wiring:

This is one nicely done Z. Great stuff Ron  About the Stillen intake, did you have to do something else besides cutting for the Nismo? I'm looking to get the G3 and would like to hear about any issues you ran into with the install.
|
Just the cutting that Torpedo mentions here: http://www.the370z.com/nismo-370z/32...l-results.html I've heard people have issues with vibrations and noises, to avoid that make the hole on the ducting big enough and place some kind of pad where the tubing touches any metal. I used thick 3M double sided tape. No issues at all :D Intakes might be for sale soon

Great start man. Loving the car.

Here you go http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...-20-bucks.html
Thnx guys. IMO DIY is the only way to go. Getting a new part/mod is cool but installing it yourself makes it even better. You save a whole bunch of money, you have fun and you learn stuff. |
:iagree: DIY is very rewarding. Not only do you save money but you also learn a lot about your car (and cars in general). As long as you take your time to research and prepare, and then take your time when you are installing parts, you will be totally fine. Not to mention since its your car you know that you did everything right instead of half-assing it.
Plus with as many members as we have on this forum I'm sure if you need it there is someone nearby willing to help you out! And there are tons of helpful DIY guides here on the forum. |

Wow Ron, that's some very nice work.
|
Nice work Ron, keep modding!
|
good looking ride man.
Ive considered doing my headlights in PG or satin black but im a scared and not brave enough. I remember seeing alot of civics doing this and then having the problem with condensation building up inside the headlamps. Looks really good though!! |

Thnx again all. Astrosfan; yeah the headlight job is intimidating but it wasn't that bad really. There is enough caulk in there to reseal them properly. It took me 12 hours for the whole thing, but then again I was being super meticulous and thinking about everything 3 times before actually doing it lol. If you want to match them to the car I would take the housing to the bodyshop to get painted. If you're doing matte or satin black just use Krylon. I used a heat gun instead of the oven too.
I re ordered the Fairlady Z badge since it had to be removed by the bodyshop. I also got a little something on the mail from Mike for my brake calipers, it should do until I get them PCd. I am about to do a diff and trans oil change right now :) |
Meh....where is all the big stuff. :p
|
Good good good!!!!
|
Nice build, I can really tell you did your homework!
|
Great job!

car is looking awesome! |
No problem!, thanks for letting me know Mike!
|
good looking ride!
|
im really feeling that gauge mod. i wish i didn't have a broken oven to do the headlight mod. my oven overheats and toasted my tail lights last time.
|
Thanks Travis, I love your Z!
Haitech, I used a heat gun instead of the oven. I feel you have more control over what you are applying heat to and how much. |
Very nice! Why are you considering selling the intakes? You did a great job with the headlights, really inspiring me to do my own
It looks like you've got it pretty flush just on springs, keep up the good work |
