Ron

I love the carputer. I am planning on doing this very soon with my Z and I am just curious where you mounted the PC itself? Under the seat? I am thinking I will try to mount mine under the passanger seat but I am not sure there is enough room under there!

Ron 04-16-2012 10:42 AM

It depends on the pc case actually. Mine is a bit too thick and did not fit under the passenger seat. It seems that the drivers seat has more clearance and I was able to get it underneath it but when I sat it made the seat hit the case. I ended up just putting it against the wall behind the drivers seat.

I also test fitted it on the trunk in front of the spare tire, where that foam piece is at. Fitment was good but some of my cables where not long enough and also I was worried about heat and vibrations with it being hidden in there.

mhcoss 04-16-2012 11:31 AM

Which case did you use? Here is the one I am considering:

Black Box Mobile Mini ITX Carputer Car PC In Vehicle Computer Case | eBay

Another option would be:

M350 Universal enclosure mini-ITX BLACK case | eBay

Ron 04-16-2012 11:39 AM

the one on the first link.

Thanks. Today I knocked something from the to do list. Fresh MT-85 for the new tranny (replaced under warranty for those that don't know). Hardest part was raising the car from all four corners lol

JB-370z 07-09-2012 06:50 PM

Soo, you had to buy the whole outer console part too. You cannot just buy the trim or bezel piece?

Ron 07-09-2012 06:51 PM

Correct, they sell it as one part.

Ron, with the wiring of the upper screen, how long would it take to re-wire mine?
I want to get that done ASAP so I can stop using that stupid remote.

Ron 07-10-2012 06:44 PM

Ah man, sorry. I saw ur msg and forgot to reply. It wouldn't take long at all, you can wire the power cable to same IGN source your HU is using, or hook it up to the cig lighter. How is it getting power now?

Not sure, an audio shop did it all.
I would bet they wired it over to the fuse box since that is the standard thing to do. I just need sometime to get it open and check and then borrow some tools (solder and such) to rewire it.

car looks great! perfect color and body

homeryansta 03-23-2013 01:52 AM

I don't always say nice things about other people's cars, but when I do it is on page 12 of Ron's build thread.

Ron 04-07-2013 01:14 PM

Haven't updated this on a long time. But then again I haven't done much to it. Rear axle starting clicking and bushings on lower control arms were leaking. Got both those things fixed under warranty.

Coming up in a couple of weeks. Wheels and basic brake upgrades. Maybe coilovers...after that it's engine build time!!

sfearl1 04-07-2013 01:16 PM

Edited my post, cannot do it on my phone.
I want someone in Houston to pick up the traction control box, curious how it performs and how much it helps.

Ron 04-10-2013 10:01 PM

Look what came in last weekend.

Also I was having a driveability issue with the car. Engine was randomly stalling when coming to a stop. As revs fell back to idle, they would drop below normal and then stabilize. Idle was rough with unstable rpms. And there was a very high pitch whistle like noise from the engine bay. Took me a while to figure it out but it was a simple fix...BOVs weren't fully closing at idle, low rpms and decel due to a soft spring (softened with time:confused:). The gap was very small causing this whistling sound as air rushed out. I added a couple of flat 16GA 1" ID machine bushings to the bottom of each BOV housing effectively making the spring stiffer. Problem solved! Car drives perfect now.

Awesome. I used a 10mm spacer in the rear. If it wasn't for tracking I would of went with a 15. Still might one day. Look a lot better.

Ron 04-12-2013 10:21 AM

I got PSS which tend to run just a little bit wider than normal from what I've read so we'll see how it looks with 10s. If not I'll give 15s a try, thanks for the tip!

Ron 05-11-2013 09:36 AM
