Windows 8 is definitely not ready yet, but by the end of the year it might be a solid solution to run. Especially with Metro UI giving you real world data, if you have a data connection, and you can quickly jump into different programs from OBDII reader, GPS, web browser, etc.

yep, exactly why I tried it. It also does not work well since most of the gestures, or at least the more often used ones, are activated from dragging on the very edge or corner of the screen, since most monitor are not flush with the bezel is very hard to touch the right spot for the command to be recognized, specially on such a small screen.
There are several "front end" software for car pcs that lets u integrate whatever you want and make it look like an HU. Centrafuse and roadrunner are two of them. I wont be using this pc for media since I have my HU for that so as of now this is just for engine monitoring. |
Looks awesome man congrats. Now can you do this on cars like mine that have the navigation system already?
|
Thank you. It's been done. I do not know what needs to be done as far as wiring goes to make the stock display work as the pc monitor. Check this out: Best G37 Gauges! (Turbo, Engine, Speed, Temp) - MyG37

Where'd you get that bottom plastic piece for the upper cubby? I would love to find some sort of plastic to fit my Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7"!!!

You mean the shroud for the screen? I got it off of a navi model center console and cut the bottom part off since it does not fit with the base/nismo trim.
I also used the bracket that holds the screen in place on the navi model. I had to modify it (make a whole for hdmi cables and extend the location of the screws) so that my screen would align with the shroud. |

I love the carputer. I am planning on doing this very soon with my Z and I am just curious where you mounted the PC itself? Under the seat? I am thinking I will try to mount mine under the passanger seat but I am not sure there is enough room under there! |
It depends on the pc case actually. Mine is a bit too thick and did not fit under the passenger seat. It seems that the drivers seat has more clearance and I was able to get it underneath it but when I sat it made the seat hit the case. I ended up just putting it against the wall behind the drivers seat.
I also test fitted it on the trunk in front of the spare tire, where that foam piece is at. Fitment was good but some of my cables where not long enough and also I was worried about heat and vibrations with it being hidden in there. |
Which case did you use? Here is the one I am considering:
Black Box Mobile Mini ITX Carputer Car PC In Vehicle Computer Case | eBay Another option would be: M350 Universal enclosure mini-ITX BLACK case | eBay |
the one on the first link.

Ron, you did a nice job with all the photos being shown & I like what you have done here.
