I heard that Stillen will swap a larger core into their kit if you ask for it

Yeah they may have some further developments in the pipeline re: cooling options, I'm going to wait it out and see what they do in the next few weeks. I'll have to change oil again when I install it anyways, and I just did that, so I've got some time to burn.

Also, video is uploading to youtube now from some driving today on the newly-fixed-up exhaust, it'll be here in about another 10-15 minutes. I'm going to shoot another tonight as well (cooler temps and less traffic = moar fun driving).

RCZ 05-11-2009 06:40 PM

Im going to be looking at a bigger core too when I have to do the next one. I think the width is fine...it should be thicker!

semtex 05-11-2009 06:44 PM

Hmm...I have the Stillen kit sitting in my garage. I haven't even unpacked it yet. I'm going to PM Josh to see if I can send the core back to swap for a larger one.

Hang on.. this is how rumors get started.. :)

As shown by RCZ beating the crap out of his Z on the track, this cooler is doing it's job well in keeping temps into the acceptable range despite being pushed hard.

That being said, some of you have asked about doing more, by possibly a different core, etc. and I'm looking into that with our R&D guys on some solution options for those looking for an overkill option.

I'll know more this week. The cooler kit does exactly what it was supposed to.

semtex 05-11-2009 06:55 PM

^ What? The four of us starting rumors? Nevverrrr!!! :rofl2:

Thanks Josh!

Josh@STILLEN 05-11-2009 06:59 PM

You four are hard to follow. I go away for a day and there are PAGES to catch up with all over the place.. LOL.. and you're planning level 7 of world domination.. haha

travisjb 05-11-2009 06:59 PM

Thanks Josh... sorry, didn't mean to jump the gun!

... hey, can I tell them about your oil cooler giveaway contest?

Josh@STILLEN 05-11-2009 07:01 PM

Sure.. they can signup here: STILLEN Sweepstakes

(there is a couple of $500 gift certificates.. you're not actually lying!)

:P

Yeah, just don't post the secret passphrase that gets you a free supercharger when you buy the exhaust system.

RCZ 05-11-2009 07:01 PM

I heard about the giveaway too, dont you just have to PM Josh "I want my oil coola!" to get entered?

I did it earlier today. I hope I win, I heard the quicker you do it the better and that there is no limit as to how many times you can enter to improve your chances.

semtex 05-11-2009 07:08 PM

LOL. Strangely, right now I'm having that same sensation I used to get in grade school when my buddies and I were on the verge of getting marched down to the principal's office.

RCZ 05-11-2009 07:10 PM

nonsense.

Holy crap, RCZ, I can't wait to see how many non-frequent fliers here are going to read this and spam Josh's PM box!

Josh, please do share the numbers with us!

travisjb 05-11-2009 07:12 PM

Josh, I've got a +1rep for you for every oil cooler you give away ! :)

wstar 05-11-2009 07:14 PM

Still processing for HQ, but it's up there now. I should have picked overnight shipping on that camera mount :p

The one you linked. I'm gonna mount it outside for a night drive later this week, it will be much moar awesomer than today's vids :)

semtex 05-11-2009 07:22 PM

I dig your new title, wstar. What do you guys think of mine? lol

RCZ 05-11-2009 07:22 PM

Lmao

We can all play this game.

I've done one like that. My favorite angle though is attached to the bottom of door aiming forward so you can see the wheel traveling with the suspension and turning and rotating, its awesome.

I gotta run.

Phimosis 05-11-2009 08:23 PM

I read the thread, but didnt see the link. What camera mount did you get, and are you clamping it to the strut crossbar?

ChrisSlicks 05-11-2009 08:46 PM

I hope I won a cooler or two, could really use it.

The current core on RCZ's car keeps things below 260 which is okay but great, I would prefer below 250 and would love below 240.

In the video a few posts above, I'm still using that flexible tripod that I used before, which sucks for a car. I ordered the one RCZ linked in his journal, but it's not here yet.

vReath 05-12-2009 12:57 AM

nice video/journal wstar.

hah actually know where you were driving. used to be in that area a lot.

Wednesday night we're meeting in the same rough vicinity, you're welcome to come check out Z stuff. http://www.the370z.com/texas/4231-houston-meet-up.html

wstar 05-13-2009 02:07 PM

Got that camera mount in today (the one RCZ linked: http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...html#post69620 ).

That thing is a beast, really well made. I stuck it on the inside of my car mounted to the rear glass when I went out for lunch today, worked perfect. Not gonna post any footage from today, most of it was totally uninteresting :) But it really does mount well, and I'll go shoot something worthy with it later in the week.

wstar 05-21-2009 01:31 PM

Got a box from CZP today, brake stuffz. Probably won't get installed for another week or so, need to coordinate with a friend. Swapping fluid solo is a total PITA, better to have two sets of hands.

Definitely. I usually put the wife to work but after a while she starts complaining about her leg getting tired :)

I ordered the rotors today, if I get them before next weekend I will see if they handle the heat any better than the stock ones do.

Get some speedbleeder valves ! Makes the job SUPER easy :)

I've never used them before, but now that you mention it, it's tempting. I remember another thread someone mentioned part# SB1010 from speedbleeder.com. Do we know for sure these work with the Sports brake setup on the 370, or is it just a guess so far?

miguez 05-21-2009 02:05 PM

For the record, Travis is the one that mentioned them with the part number ;)

travisjb 05-21-2009 02:08 PM

I haven't verified fitment, but CZP did quote those for me... they may know for sure

SB1010 is the correct one for the Sport Calipers. Not sure on the non-sport, haven't played with those yet.

Coz

Awesome! Its such a good mount, I drove with it attached to my door on the outside at 90+ on the highway untethered :) Did I mention I have accident insurance on the camera? ;)

Was that temperature, speed or both?

wstar 05-22-2009 01:16 AM

Over in the Takeda intake thread, intake temps were brought up again (about shielding the intake from hot things like the radiator hose), and that reminded me to hurry up and get busy on shielding my Stillen setup (parts been laying around forever). So I did that tonight.

This is the overall view of the bay now:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...engine-bay.jpg

I used Thermo-Tec's intake air tube shield. I bought two of them. You could probably almost get away with just a single one if you cut everything perfect the first time, but I used the extra to do lots of trial and error on cutting and fitting around the MAS blocks and the breather tubes:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...ube-shield.jpg

I also used some 2" DEI Cool Tape to seal things up at the top by the throttle bodies, since the thermo-tec shield has a hard time with that final bend into the TB:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...ool-tape-2.jpg

Closeups of the install (sorry about the shaky one):

Left Upper:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...4-left-top.jpg

Left Lower:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...left-lower.jpg

Right Upper:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...-right-top.jpg

Right Lower:

http://www.the370z.com/members/wstar...ight-lower.jpg

It's really a pretty easy job, took about 1.5 hours start to finish to do some initial measuring, test-cut some peices, adjust and recut some new peices based on those, install everything, lace it up, put on the DEI tape up at the top, etc. I did this with the intake installed, so the shielding stops at the radiator support holes (no shielding on the tube sections under the bumper). Obviously I did it in two peices on each tube, one peices for the upper tube, and one for the lower. It's much easier that way, and the silicone elbows are probably already reasonably resistant to heat, or at least won't trap and transmit it like the metal tubes do.

wstar 05-22-2009 01:22 AM

I should probably go back at some point and (a) put some DEI tape around those MAS blocks, since they're the only exposed intake tube metal in the bay now, and (b) shield the part of the tubes that's under the bumper next time it's off, to keep some of the radiant heat from the radiator off of them.

miguez 05-22-2009 05:07 AM

Very cool idea wstar.

You had mentioned measuring your intake air temperature before, were you able to do any comparison before/after?

Most of the insulation is post-MAS, so post-sensor. I doubt I'd see much difference in behavior. Maybe later once the front parts under the bumper are shielded up too.
