hey imag... interesting news on the caymans... hadn't heard that... sad that porsche would declare the car not track worthy ! very un-porsche like... but I guess I should stop holding onto the notion that somehow VW/Porsche is anything more than a corporation out to make a buck
agree, corvette gs was done right... for our car, you may be right... I'm going to be watching my new spa oil pressure gauge very closely... not sure if WSTAR is stopping by here, but I remember that he ran an upgraded oil pan and I think it had baffling - but not certain... maybe in his journal somewhere |
I think that pan would be super easy to make its tiny and square.
|
just found wstar's post http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...an-spacer.html a spacer, not a new pan
|
Yeah - it's going to be awhile before I'm good enough to need R comps, and I'm actually enjoying these tires - but I figure you're there, or getting there. That car is going to pull some Gs when you're done with it.
I'll give the Caymans credit - you can take them right on the track off the showroom floor and not have the issues we've had. And really, if car companies engineer cars for the forces associated with track tires, they will cost more. That's why I want a Caterham CSR someday - streetable, trackable, low pad and tire wear, total hoot to drive... you can beat the living crap out of it on the track and it will just want more. |
caterham and others like it were on my list initially, but at end of day i decided it would be more fun to build out a mainstream car... i do love open wheel cars though ! was fortunate to spend a little time in a formula ford - was a total blast

NASA Time Trial
... what I'll be up against in the local racing scene here in phoenix... for TTS = corvette, corvette z06, corvette, porsche gt3... and there are a few others in this group that didn't attend the last event |
oh and just to point out how ridiculous my 1:04 goal is, Chris Rado who some of you may have heard of is running about that time in the unlimited class...
|
That is quite an ambitious goal! Rado's car is ungodly quick and probably the most prepared and well put together car competing in time attack in the US. I believe in you though!
|
trust me, the goal is completely unrealistic! :) We're starting at 1:13... if I shave 5 seconds off, I'll be a happy guy !!!
|
1:13 to 1:04 is almost impossible no matter how much you modify your Z.
|
yup... i think 5 secs is do-able... anything more than that is going to require moving up a class or two and some serious power upgrades. the class i'm competing in, winning times are 1:07-9 ish... for those too lazy to click on the nasa link above here is the last tts result:
Gary Felton 15 TTS 2008 Corvette 1:09.32 1:08.49 1:09.14 1st 100 Peter Van Camp 306 TTS 2006 Z06 Corvette 1:09.39 1:09.04 1:09.43 2nd 90 Dale Naylor 367 TTS 2002 Corvette 1:12.68 1:12.41 1:11.53 1:13.99 3rd 85 Dan Maloney 44 TTS 2007 Porsche GT3 1:12.74 1:12.83 1:11.86 1:12.43 4th 80 |
( I went to NASA and the track record was set by a viper at 1:02
|
you mean you were there on sunday ? if so, correct, it was a 102.93
Mark Algers 4 TTU 2003 Viper CC 1:02.93 1:05.34 1st 100 you do realize this is the unlimited class, right ? |
I went to their website and saw the green box indicating a track record.
Damn that Honda must be fast if the viper only beat him by a second or two |
The horsepower difference must be gigantic.
