Was the motor opened up before all this happen? Especially the heads.

+1 on the oil pressure gauge question. I currently run one myself.

travisjb 02-24-2012 12:48 PM

Will answer some of these questions when I have more info

Separate topic... front camber adjustment... I talked with Jay at Ground Control... I told him we need another option in addition to the SPC front upper control arms for camber adjustment on this car... he's looking at it - no promises... if anyone wants to encourage Mr. Jay, give him a call at 530-677-8600

Refresh me, what's the issue with the SPC front upper control arms? I'm just now getting to the point where I might care with some new coilovers (having finally found some real limitations on the stock suspension that I'm unhappy with).

They tend to fall out of adjustment with heavy track use.

travisjb 02-24-2012 05:34 PM

^ exactly... and tough to make adjustments at the track given placement of the tensioner/fastener

So, here are the pics

Some scoring along the cylinders

Two deep gauges where the bearing spun and dug into the lower block
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...224_161013.jpg

Visible damage to crank
http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...224_160924.jpg

Easier to see in person... Tool marks on the heads indicating that they may have been tightened to a non-OEM level of torque... note that this could have happened when the engine was installed as a "new engine" by a dealership in Phoenix, or anytime thereafter... it would not be appropriate for anyone to further speculate... thanks! I am providing these photos simply as a reminder that according to Nissan these should not be adjusted outside the factory... which is open for discussion

I found an engine out of an '09 G37 with 35K miles that will include a 6 mo warranty for ~$3,500... if anyone knows of a better deal, please speak up - otherwise I will buy it Monday

The damaged engine will eventually become a spare, assuming it is repairable

travis: Have you tried Nissan Unlimited? The 350Z guys really like 'em.

Thanks for the tip. They appear to have one G37 engine in inventory. It is a core (was exchanged for another) that they prob bought for $150 and are now selling for $1,700. They claim it does not work.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I will prob go through a local supplier, but FYI car-part.com has a pretty exhaustive dbase of used engines here are the ones I found

So, dumb question...why not go w/ a 3.5L, stroke it out, and have a much simpler head design that is probably easier to work with in the end?

Kingbaby 02-24-2012 09:55 PM

hope it all works out man...

One more of these and yup, that's what I'll do

Unrelated / FYI... over on my Tundra forum, found this thread covering a 5.7L TRD Supercharged engine conversion for a SC430 drift car... apparently the World Racing 2,200 hp car is based upon a Tundra 5.7 as well... enjoy TRD Supercharged Tundra 5.7 Lexus SC430 - TundraTalk.net - Toyota Tundra Discussion Forum

That's a project from the Drift Emporium guys here in GA. Good bunch of guys. The two G35's in the shop are VK56 Supercharged and the Bass Boat S15 is also a N/A VK56. They come out to ZDayZ, did a Drift Expo at the 2010 ZCON event at Nashville Superspeedway and have had their cars here at Z Nationals a few times.

Travis you need to go the Chris Foresburg route. VK56 Supercharged into the Z.
