Tazma61's Build Thread
I was asked by my peers to start a build thread in order to avoid any problems with my design ideas being used by others if it does occur, so here it goes.
Plan: Build a non-widebody 370Z that looks like a widebody. Design and build a body kit with minimal damage to non-replaceable parts to avoid loss of resale value, yet creating something that would catch the attention of others as being unique. See if available aftermarket parts can be used and improved. Problem: How is that possible? Aftermarket parts did not meet the design criteria. Like using oem parts, but they are expensive. Time is an issue, since I will be doing all the work myself. Solution: Perspectives! The whole point of making something look wider is to shorten it's height. With the help of ray from The NISMO Shop of West Covina, I was able to acquire OEM parts at a discounted price. Everything else had to be build from scratch. I will update with pictures soon, but I'm still in the process of wrapping the car, so things will happen fast, but should be worth the wait... This is what the car looked like in the beginning: http://www.the370z.com/attachments/s...june2010-8.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1CCKLjMu2T...0/IMG_2465.JPG The car has Swift prototype springs, Nismo wheels, and a Stillen Body Kit |
It looks like a good start, sema quality not so sure about. I tell you though, the stillen bumper and sides look real clean on the car.

Update: Buddy Club is making coilovers for our cars, and I will be sponsored by them along with Swift springs for the set up... that is if they can get it over here on time.. LOL
|
In for results!
|
Couple of my friends told me that the car kind of reminds them of the BATMOBILE, so I guess that is going to be my theme for SEMA...
|
when you say wrapping the car, you mean you are vinyl wrapping it? matte black? in for pics.
|
In for progress. Good luck times running short!

Finally an update with the vinyl wrap almost finished... teaser...
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...ires/photo.jpg None of the parts are on the car yet, so I'll post in a couple days when things are complete with better pictures... |
The car has the SEIBON hood with the ducts molded in... I'm thinking about covering the whole hood... any suggestions?
The red line will also be on the hood that will match the red on the roof... The top of the sideskirt will also have red and the handle is going back to silver to match the wheels that will be on the car... http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...res/photo2.jpg |
Looks cool, what price range did it run to wrap the whole car ?

Wow, this should be cool.
In for future updates and best of luck!! |
That looks great, and I am not normally a fan of flat black on cars. Why didn't you wrap the fang area?
|
not sure about the red.
|
looks interesting....Good luck

It does match the original Batmobile theme though. I'm interested to see how this turns out. |

I'm trying to stand out for them by going black and red, but now they want me to use gloss red instead of the satin/matte red... If I use gloss red, it detracts from the batman beyond colors... http://sharetv.org/images/batman_beyond-show.jpg |
Ah, I see now. That makes much more sense, I didn't realize you were matching a theme. Is that wrap the way you will keep it after SEMA?
|
handles go back to silver? PC them black?
ouch if they force you to go gloss black. re-wrap the entire car? |
mehh.
|
I'm going to stick with the satin/matte red though

The car does not need to be gloss black... I told them the scheme way before when they first agreed to put me in the booth... Now for some wheel choices... I for one like the matte silver look http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...res/Wheel1.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...res/Wheel2.jpg |

Car will not be going to SEMA anymore...
Hopefully, the project will still be finished... |
Finish what you started and let it be a learning experience. I also backed out from my car going to SEMA for personal reasons. Finished what you started and move on. Plus not everyday your car can make it to SEMA.
|
Well, I figure I might as finish what I started... here is the car back to black
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...acktoblack.jpg And here is the custom exhaust from Injen with quad 4 inch exhaust tips... http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...es/exhaust.jpg |
cool, didn't know injen had an exhaust in the works. got vids of how it sounds?
IMO, you need some extra parts to make it all work in the rear bumper. the exhaust looks aggressive, too aggressive for the nismo bumper alone. either that or you just need to get an accent scheme going. i would try to get some of that 40th paint to show up again if yo ucan. sucks about SEMA, but there will be other shows to attend if you want to. it's weird how everybody is backing out of SEMA. what 370zs are left going? bullitt? |
Is the vinyl still on it?

The targa Z sponsored by Forged Specialties will be there at Sema. That should be cool, apparently going into some electronics booth.
|
Thus far the best flat black Z I've seen was the one done by moto, that baby looked sweet. It seems that every flat black Z since then just hasn't "popped." I know it's still a work in progress but I'm not really feeling it, then again its almost impossible to build a SEMA quality car without big risks and big $. Still I guess I should be selfishly happy that people are going flat black rather than raw cf like I did, it keeps me unique and looks killer though I'm not really trying to be a show car.
Suggestions to OP: you need a better rear bumper the nismo one looks bad with the quad tips and you need some wheels, keep at it and I'm sure the final product will be awesome. |
