Do you guys think we exceed 158F (70C) inside the engine bay?

I wouldn't be surprised if we did.

Without a doubt. Sometimes my hood is too hot to touch, and I have no problem stirring my morning 155F homemade latte with a finger.

Here's my guess. Engine bay temp is within 20F of your oil temp at any given oil temperature. Also, assuming the engine bay temp would never be above oil temp.

Hell, I'll go test this with my wireless grill thermometer later tonight.

Good Lord. That looks like a motorcycle dyno chart.

Is that not one of the greatest inventions ever? Love mine.. I can cook while being inside and it's always dead on perfect when I pull it off..

No reason it wouldn't work fine near the engine, it's sensitive. Always pins ambient air temps too..

I love mine too. It's amazing they don't cost more.

My grill thermometer may have just been retasked completely. Why buy a scan gauge to monitor intake temps? I'll just duct tape the probe and transmitter to the intake, then tape the receiver/display to my dash. LOL!

As for the dyno chart....that torque curve is as flat as my old girlfriend's...

Works great in the oven.. can't imagine a hot engine bay would be any different.

Ok spearfish.. get a cassarole together, throw it on the engine, hook your themometer up and get to driving already! two birds with one stone!

I'm driving up to our 'Supercar Saturday' car show in the AM. Definitely going to use the ol' thermometer to see the engine bay temps. Prepare to be dazzled people. Hell, I'll even make an HD video for you with my iPhone 4 .
