Out with the old and in with the new! Exhaust install is going down as I type. Pics to follow!
Sooooo awesome dude! :)
It has a small gasket leak they are fixing now. Issue with the 3" down pipe meeting the 2.5" exhaust. It sounds sick though cant wait to hit it wide open!
Ohhhhhhh!

:pics: or it didn't happen!
... a sound clip would be nice as well. ;) |
Well here is the pic read below pic for the rest of the story....never fails :shakes head:
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc1c44c26.jpg So what should have been a 1.5 hour job turned into me wasting my entire day at the shop. First I get called out and told that no matter what the installer tried the flanges would not line up....I said what if you flip that part over (mid pipe).....oh ya that will work he says :shakes head: That took about 2 hours because they took alignments in before I got there (15 minutes after they opened) even though I had an appointment. That is the only lift my car can get lifted by. Then I got called out for a clearance issue on the passenger side. Im not sure if the JDM cars have it or not, but it is a fuel evap box behind the right rear tire. It will not allow the exhaust to go up as high as it needs to go. That is why it looks a little bit uneven in the pic. I ripped of a plastic shroud to give it a 1/4 more clearance but it is still resting on the box. I know it is just for emissions and I found a DIY to remove it but it throws codes/lights. So im going to try something else first. Once he finally got everything in fired it up BAM exhaust leak. It was small but sounded awful. My 3" down pipes didnt mate well with the 2.5" Zele flex pipes. The passenger side was good though so what it boiled down to was Zele making the bolt holes to big on the driver side. Mating up to a 2.5" down pipe, long tubes, or test pipes would have been fine though. Overall even though that seems like alot of bitching im pretty happy. It looks sick, sounds nasty at low rpms, and finishes off what im able to purchase of the Zele parts. I mentioned it sounding good at low RPMS because it may be my head messing with me, but it seems like it gets more quiet the faster I went with it.......Sounds clips will help me with that though because im not behind the car. I think it has a pretty constant hiss at idle or a rattle from hitting the emission box. I will be investigating it further. Sound Clip/Video coming soon! Edit: Ya all my pictures came out horrible too. I used our cheap camera and the sun washed out all the shots. Oh and I really have to paint the whole section black now it looks worse with this setup. |
Throw out the evap box! Everyone has to with the HKS Hi-Power exhaust and it does not cause any problems.
Do you know if they are getting lights? The DIY I found is also pretty in depth. Is there an easier way to do it?
I dont care if I get hidden codes but I do not want a CEL Quote:

Looks great!
That looks great.
If I'm not mistaken you can disable any CEL in Uprev. |
Well I was all excited to show everyone this.....
http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps068bebbf.jpg http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1a72ee1d.jpg BUT as with most anything I start digging through all the goodies and realize my F'ING BATTERY is missing!!! Now instead of getting the Z out on some back roads for you guys tomorrow with the lowest rain chance for like a week. I will be taking it back to the store, and it was the last one. So who knows when I will get videos up. :shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head::shakes head: |
Will it work with a gen 1 battery? I'll let you borrow my battery tomorrow if need be.
Exhaust is killerrr!! Dam that looks nasty.
The way I would look at it, all these hiccups just mean the return will be that much better when you get everything all buttoned up and working properly! Coming from a glass half full kind of doooodddeee! Did you buy that GOPRO new w.o a battery? |
Im not sure I called before they closed they have more. Im going to pick it up as soon as I can. I have to wait around for my pool table to get delivered though, I just remembered....so hopefully that doesnt mess me up either.

Thats odd I just took the F.I system off the car and its still in there. Is there more than one style? |
I think you can get by without removing it but in the instructions it says to remove the black shield to give it more room. The heat wrap was provided with zip ties for the lines. I removed mine just for more clearance.
Oh ok, yeah I took the shield off too. It is still hitting it though. I was actually hoping it would melt to the right spot lol

This must be very light. When i picked up the R1 from bulletproof ware house. you could literally lift up the exhaust with 1 finger. Amazing |
Well I have a couple videos im uploading now, but holy cow is youtube slow. It is probably going to take 10 hours for the 5 clips to upload.
I also have bad news and a video of my issue. White smoke is pouring out of the exhaust at idle. Once I get moving you cant see it and if I floor it nothing comes out heavy. Only sitting still or not moving and popping the throttle a little. In the video it is only coming out of the drivers side but when I stopped the video I blipped the gas and it started to come out the passenger side too. I just shut it down after that. Oil looks good not milky or watery, coolant level is good, temps were perfect, no funny noises, good AFR's, and power was still there. Could be a head gasket, valve springs, cracked block (hope not!), etc. Just odd that everything "looks" ok.....any ideas or thoughts? I guess I will be taking it to the shop sometime this week. |
I used a free video editing thing for this clip and it had a youtube button it uploaded fast. Here is the video sorry for the water mark but it was free! Lol
man that thing is throaty as hell!!! hella mean tone.... and you didnt even rev it but i got goosebumps
It is likely just the new exhaust burning what's inside the pipes during fabrication. You should be ok. Need to heat cycle the exhaust and it should go away.
That is a nice thought but I dont think im that lucky. Wouldnt it be doing it from the start when I first got it installed?
Here are a couple more videos nothing great just testing out the camera. Quote:
White smoke is normal. It's just the exhaust burning off chemicals during production process. It kind of reminds me of weird smelling marshmallows. Like burnt ones.
^what he said
Well that's a little comforting but I think I'm going to use a block seal tester before I drive it anymore.
The sound of the new exhaust did something to me !!!! Its awesome..

Some of your pics crack me up, that looks like Mr. Bean and Smeagol from Lord of the Rings had a baby :rofl2:
Amazing....................
man that exhaust sounds pretty bad ***...solid build you have going on here
Thanks guys! Nice to see you post in my thread again after so long doc :-) Your my hero!
Good news too I took the Z out to "finish it" off and nothing happened amd all fluids are still normal. I figured if its broke I may as well really break it and build it back right. Im glad shes ok though because it would have been a slow build im tight on those kind of funds right now. More videos coming soon!!!! Edit: I was excited and forgot to say thanks for the guys with the new exhaust advice that seems to be the cause. I will rep when I get to a PC. |
Glad to hear it. Are you off Saturday? If so, bring it to C&C!
:shakes head: Nope I have to work. I should be off Friday though anything going on? I have not checked yet.
