djpathfinder's 2010 40th Anniversary 370Z

Hi Guys,

I've been on the forum a fair bit lately, so some of you have seen some of my comments. Sorry if I've hijacked some of your threads. Thought I'd start my own now.

I picked up my 40th Anniversary 370Z on March 19th. It's already got a clear bra and 35% window tints. I've put a little over 500 km on it in the past 12 days. Great little car. Love the way it feels, drives, handles!

In the next few months, I plan to install an Invidia Gemini exhaust and Stillen Gen 3 intake. A Cobb AccessPort will likely follow close behind.

We had good weather this past weekend, so I was able to do a photo shoot just this past Saturday, and I thought I'd share some of the pics with you guys. Here are a few sample pictures that I took. There are more pics in my album, so please feel free to visit and have a look.

I did...I do professional photography in addition to my day job. :icon17:

Very nice! I am picking up my 40th anniv tonight.

Is it just me, or are the majority of new Z owners getting the 40th anniv? For a "rare" car, it seems that you see a ton of them here.

Yeah, don't pick yours up tonite. it's all just a scam. Nissan had a surplus of quartz paint, red calipers and red leather so they wanted to liquidate them. :icon17:

I think the only 2010 coupes that are available in most states are 40th anniversary models. Most of the rest are either 2009's or 2010 roadsters.

Hey, do you folks in Canada get nav with your 40th? Thats no fair!

djpathfinder 04-01-2010 04:41 PM

Yeah the Canadian 40th editions come fully loaded...with nav. I'm surprised how different current nav packages, look and function compared to my 05 FX. Wow!

wheee! 04-01-2010 05:13 PM

Bring your camera to the meet in Hawrelak Park on the 10th! We can get some group shots!!!

Ha. Seriously though, I've visited a ton of dealers, and the only one that I consistently see on the lot is the 40th. Not a big deal. I just heard that there were only 3,000 produced, so I would think they would be harder to find.

By the way, I love my new z!

k20z3 04-02-2010 08:31 PM

Nice photos!

HKYStormFront 04-02-2010 08:52 PM

great shots overall, i <3 #2, wish the mirror hadn't been clipped off but that's my only gripe, lighting looks perfect. i've been looking for a 40th to shoot in my area but haven't seen anyone chime in with one (if you read this and are in NC or SC and have one, shoot me a pm!!)

LinPark 04-02-2010 08:57 PM

Congrats and awesome work with the camera - do you do weddings too or is it just autos? :tiphat:

adalsky 04-02-2010 09:22 PM

I love your eye. The wide angle lens doesn't hurt either :) Great find on that parking garage. I too love them, but I've never come across one with fluorescent lighting or such vibrant colors! You frame a shot wonderfully.

I'm an amateur photographer and will be posting more pics as I take them. Feel free to add your two cents.

Adam

djpathfinder 04-02-2010 09:22 PM

Thanks guys. I deliberately didn't want the entire mirror in the pic because I was drawing attention to the tail light and 370 emblem. Notice those were in the bottom right rule of thirds. I should have taken a wider shot of that afterward. Yes, I do weddings, portraits, events and commercial...I don't shoot cars nearly as much as I'd like though. :icon17:

HKYStormFront 04-02-2010 09:31 PM

i hear ya but i don't think it would have taken anything away from the focus of the picture, inversely, it catches my eye that the mirror is clipped off from an artistic standpoint. i shot a similar pic of a 370 nismo last year, i'll post it up in a min so you can see what i'm talking about

this is my prefered angle of view:

After:

Also, I did a post-break-in oil change Friday night. Now running Amsoil, K&N oil filter, and Filter Mag at just over 2100 km.

ERZ HFC and Invidia Gemini CBE install next week. Can't wait...

Supergoji 04-24-2010 10:17 AM

i need to get one of these.... sick car dude.

there's one down the street but they want 39k for it.

NXTAZEE 04-24-2010 10:37 AM

Congrats on your new ride, looks awesome. Nice photos too. Ever thought of de-badging the car? I de-badge all my cars and think it looks much cleaner. The 370Z looks great without the badges.

6MT 04-24-2010 11:02 AM

Congrats! I see you also changed the oil ;-)
Was it as easy as I told you it would be?

BTW, buff off the fingerprints & smudges on those chrome intakes :-))

djpathfinder 04-24-2010 12:38 PM

Thanks guys!

Oh yeah pretty easy, I've changed oil before...on my old Pathfinder. That had a plastic skid plate with only 8 screws, but it was a PITA as you had to reach around a frame cross member and sway bar to access the oil filter, which meant A LOT of clean up afterwards. Much easier on the 370Z, only lower to the ground. As this was the first time I lifted it onto ramps with the help of 2x4's, that took me a little longer. I could have put some 2x4's in front of the ramp and drive up, but I don't have much of an elevated lip at the end of the ramps so I was scared of going off that end and causing some damage (chicken :ugh2: ). But now that I know what to use and how to set up for next time, it'll be quicker.

My floor jack is just a standard one...it's heavy (80+ lbs) but heavy duty, and I have a pinch weld adapter sitting on it. I need the front wheels on 2x4s to be able to get underneath the rocker panel. I also bought an aluminum racing jack (26 lbs) yesterday just in case I needed it. Nice, but not sure if I'll keep it. I suppose if I lower the car with springs or coilovers, I'll likely need the racing jack. From another thread on this forum, I tried supporting the weight of the car with a jack stand and hockey puck too. I was worried the puck might deform badly but surprisingly it worked well.

What I really need is to replace my old rusting metal ramp with one of these 67" XT 2-piece Race Ramps:
67" XT Ramps - Car Ramps | Get your Car Up 10"! | RaceRamps.com your best solution for Lightweight Car Ramps!
That's a lot of coin man!

Oh, those intakes are polished, not chrome. There are a few scratches from the install, but I did wipe them down with rubbing alcohol afterwards to get my grubby fingerprints off of them before they get hot and the imprints are on permanently. I took the picture before they were wiped down. Now stop noticing all the little imperfect details. ;-)

djpathfinder,

Those pics look great!! You picked up your 40th the same day I picked up my roadster, did you buy it at Sherwood Nissan? The salesman told me there was a guy picking up a 40th the same day, was that you?

We'll have to chat during the next GTG!!

No, haven't given any thought about debadging...I kinda like them.

Ha ha, too funny! Yup, picked mine up from Sherwood on March 19 in the afternoon. I first saw it parked in the bay on March 16...until then, I had only seen pictures of the 40th edition. Seeing it in person pretty much made my decision for me. They had just gotten it on the weekend...their first 40th. The wife and I couldn't come back for a test drive of a Z until Mar 18. They knew I was interested in the 40th Anniv, but I didn't put a deposit down on it. I figured, if it's still there we may go for it, if not, we'll look at another colour. Fortunately it was still available. Test drove a blue 2009 demo that they had, talked numbers and sealed the deal. When I came back in the next day to pick her up, a guy I saw 3 days before who was also looking at my car came back...at first I thought he was a sales person, but turned out to be a customer that was coming back to take a second look at my car. He just said "oh, you bought it...I guess I'll go for the automatic then", Sherwood got their second 40th on March 18, this one an automatic. I wonder if he ended up buying it...

So, how do you like your Z? I just finished the break-in. The wife drove the last 400 km of it, as she took it to Red Deer and back yesterday. So, do you have any plans of modding yours? ...oh, never mind...just read your signature.

djpathfinder 07-20-2010 01:57 PM

It's a lot of fun! The thought of doing it was cool but scary at first, but if you do it though an organization that's well run and focuses on safety, it'll be fine. I mean, we own one of the most capable sports cars out there, so we might as well try to tap into some of its potential, right?
