Default Zerkster’s Copart revival

Hey guys. Wanted to start sharing the work I’ve been putting in on a 2016 base mt that I picked up from copart in November.

Front-end collision with a passenger in the car so both front airbags deployed, both seatbelts locked, the car was really a mess which should be expected I suppose.

Best I can tell, the car was from NJ. Has NJ inspection stickers, some receipts from NJ in the glove box. After doing a once-over I was quite intrigued with the strange dichotomy of upgrades. On one hand, it had a Stillen Gen3 intake, Mocal oil cooler, CSC elimination kit, Z1 rear camber and trac arms, and ISR long tube headers. But at the same time it had those horrible strobing “F1” relays on the taillights, a hack job passenger front fender replacement, and those tree air fresheners were shoved in literally every open space that could fit one. I still need to run a full carfax but my suspicion is I am the third owner. If I had to guess, the original owner did the decent upgrades and later sold to someone that did the rest.

Started with the interior. Had to remove the dash for obvious reasons, had to get the seatbelts and SRS module out to send out for rebuild and programming. Cleaned everything to the best of my ability. Evidence pointed to the passenger having got some Arby’s just prior to the crash as I found some curly fries under the seat and petrified cola on the carpet and quarter plastics.

Had to do some plastic welding around where the seatbelts go behind the quarter plastics. Wired in illuminated door sills while everything was out of the car. Also decided to swap in some 15+ Nismo components as I like the color better. Did the gauge bezels, door pulls, shifter surround.

When the seatbelts were out getting rebuilt I chose to have the belts changed to red, because why not? Also went with the Nifty City Tesla screen, again, because why not?

After I was happy with the interior, I used a Z1 OBD2 scanner to clear any CEL’s and check for any SRS faults and then did the clearing procedure to ensure the system was good.

Then started to focus on the front end and getting it torn down so I could rebuild. I knew from the start that the core was cracked and the radiator was bent so those two needed replaced first.

The factory power steering cooler’s input line was broken so I chose to upgrade it with the Z1 power steering cooler setup. The Mocal oil cooler core was fairly corroded and had a significant number of bent fins so I chose to replace it with a Mishimoto core. Did the same with the radiator. Also put in the Mishimoto low-temp thermostat.

May not be able to see in the pics but I also did a complete Z1 silicone hose setup including heater core lines, aluminum bleeder T, PCV lines, radiator hoses, and power steering lines. Almost forgot Z1 motor mounts.

Threw on a GReddy drain plug, GReddy oil filter, and filled with Red Line 5w30.

Sub'ed.

Looking good man!

Most people spend money to further upgrade the car. Props and respect to you for taking on a restoration project, which requires both money AND patience.

An update:

Successfully passed the enhanced inspection yesterday so she has stickers and tags now.

Decided to make some progress on suspension and brakes:

VooDoo 13 FUCA’s
Fortune Auto 500 true coilovers
Whiteline sway bar and end links
R35 GTR BREMBO calipers
Carbotech 1521 pads
Z1 2-piece rotors
Z1 ball-nose extended wheel studs
Z1 20mm slip-on spacer for the front
Z1 SS braided brake lines

May not get to see all of the hardware in these pics depending on when I took them. I’m about halfway there, I’ll finish up the fronts and complete the rear setup tomorrow, then bleed the system with LiquiMoly DOT4.
