Sway’s Journal - Hitomi

I can measure it tomorrow, my guess would be about 2-2.5k miles, but I don’t know for sure :/

Is your PCV deleted currently or are you running the stock PCV setup?“

I told him I’m running dual catch cans, he advised:

“remove the catch cans and run a proper PCV delete so we can track how the long term trims are moving”

So, we’ll see what happens I guess

Who's your tuner? I'm curious to learn the reason for tracking the long term trim with a PCV delete vs keeping the PCV and catch can.

The effluent in my cans is almost entirely gas/water. I'd say you have quite a bit of blow-by. I used to run deleted PCVs and changed back for a reason I can't remember; so I'm interested to see exactly why the switch was warranted for you.

I've seen a lot of his tunes he has posted on Facebook, good stuff for sure. Keep us posted on the differences on with the PCV and catch can vs PCV delete.

I’ll try and get info from him on why and what was happening when he responds to my logs I’ll send him tomorrow and post it. I’m curious too!

Edit: yesterday after work I did a run by myself 1st 2nd and half of 3rd, didn’t feel quite as strong... but it could be in my head cause I’m worried about it... plus I’m in TX and it’s hot as ffffffffffff...

Temps on the car were about 195 maybe 200 during the run.

Update:

After driving for a full week, he said it did the same thing.
He sent me a new map and said flash it with that, drive a couple of days and send him another log.

Hmmmm... if this doesn’t work,
I think I might tape over my fang vents, and see if them not pulling in so much air changes anything. If this map does the same I mean... I’ll tape them closed, drive a couple of days on the same map, then see if it’s doing it on that log without the extra air.

Does that make sense?

If that’s what it is, then the air vent fang mod is doing more than I thought, bringing in enough air to screw with the tune.

I was going to make a pithy comment ab your fangs, but then I actually thought ab it during today's drive. First I thought naw. Then typed a long response. Then thought more and said maybe.

#swayfangs is basically an economical version of the dewla dezigns air flow guide or whatever. That's supposed to add 5HP on a Z with bolt-ons. Since #swayfangs is reproducing the same effect, it could be enough to throw the tune off.

Sidenote: checked my catch cans two days ago, 3000 miles after I put the PCVs back on. One can had a trace of oil. The other was bone dry. With the pcv delete there would usually be half an inch of gas/water in each can.

Also, I’m back! Hi guys and gals.

Curious as to what the answer was?
Drumroll please!

... a leaking valve cover gasket! Spark plug in cyl 4 was soaked in oil. I never bothered checking the plugs because they were new. But finally I did and bam, struck oil! Changed the valve cover gaskets on both sides as we as the gaskets around the plugs, cleaned all the plugs and regapped them and bam! However after running lean for so long I destroyed my o2 sensors. I recently replaced those and got a retune and man she is healthier than ever! Feels like a whole new car!

Made 317rwhp/267rwtq while on 4.08 gears.
Also got my rear amuse bumper painted and put on. Looks great!

Hello all! I wonder if the same people are still around… figured I’d update this thread since I’m here selling a few pieces.

I sold the Z unfortunately, but for a down payment on my new baby!
Himiko! My 2018 Pearl white GTR premium with premium interior package! Now she’s full bolt on + E85 making 632whp and 577wtq. The GTR is a BLAST! A whole new level. I hope everyone here is doing well.

The GTR looks beautiful. Was always wondering if that would ever be my replacement for the Z and I always conclude that the 4x4 will probably never be my cup of tea. That, and the additional weight and the character of the car. While I think the GTR is just an incredible car, I feel like the Z suits my driving stile much better.
Do you miss the Z?
