Be careful of the counter shaft rear nut. They like to back off and wind up in the gears. Ask me how I know.

Glass beads. It works great. I’m not too fussy about pinging as I’m just cleaning up suspension and running gear. My body work is being done by pro metal strippers.
I’m doing fasteners, running gear, driveline etc. I’ll paint or zink all my steel bits and leave the alum bare. Probably powder coat some of the suspension.

Surfdog’s 71 240
Done! This thing feels AMAZING!!! Note the grub screw sealing up my “access hole” used to knock out shift fork pin. All my zink plate bits are cleaned off and ready to get plated. (Mostly fasteners and such but a few bigger thinks like door hardware etc) I’m almost ready to send out powder coat bits (mostly suspension) but am having the guys at Ignite Performance in Denver weld on a 4 way adjustable sway bar end link connection mod to my control arm so am a hair held up waiting for that. (Held up is wrong term as I’m YEARS ahead of schedule on this build lol). That what happens when you bring your project down to the race shop... the guys move the ball for you a bit when they have noting more pressing to do and parts “magically” end up torn apart, cleaned and rebuilt when your not looking. I think I’ll scrap my pretty beat up steel hood and buy a nice light (and straight) fiberglass or possibly carbon hood. It’s not about weight, more I don’t want to spend 1000 bucks trying to bang my bent up stocker back onto shape. It’s pretty bad. (I’ve caused myself a bit of totally self induced body work by stupidly using a screwdriver to pry out the top of my windshield back when I did it. My roofline has about 40 “buckles” along the leading edge I’ll have to have put right. ) I sourced a “ spare “ side draft intake from a buddies build so my motor parts are coming together! Replacement floor pans, skirts, dog legs etc are ordered and on the way so major rust repair body work and fender flair modifications can soon begin. The guy who welds this stuff together works from home and is a tad slow as it’s his side gig, but comes highly recommend and I believe my job is next in his que, so some exiting body work progress should be coming soon. (He’s just finishing up a nearly identical 240 body for another Ignite customer.) I will definitely not be attempting to paint or do much of the paint prep myself this time. (See my Factory Five Daytona coupe thread for lessons learned about trying to find a cheap paint/body solution). I spent days (months really, but days of block sanding and guide coating etc) working with a VERY iffy crew prepping and painting my Factory Five and the results were pretty marginal. Let’s just say the car looks great at 100 miles an hour, but up close has a lot of “character.” RACECAR! I’ll pony up the cash to have a legit shop do the prep and paint this time, and save myself an ocean of grief! The brain damage saved by not inhaling pounds of primer dust and fiberglass, as well as the fumes from shooting paint at 2:00 am in some super sketchy (and as my clear coat can attest, bug infested) rental storage space is well worth the cost of a legit shop. ...ask me how I know. (On second thought, don’t) Surfdog57's Gen 3 (#12) build journal. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink/top...ink_source=app Ah, the memories!!

Surfdog’s 71 240
Some replacement panels arrived today
I’ve decided to mod the front “clip” to be removable for easier engine pulls and to accept larger radiator We’ll be adding a “cold air (ish) intake to blow cooler air into carb intake area with a heat shield to keep intake temps a bit lower.
