One thing I found out the hard way..Carbon Fiber conducts electricity. So if you are using a CF battery cover.Take care to not make contact.

Quicksilvers 05-14-2018 06:57 PM

Congrats on your progress I like your ideas. I believe there is nothing wrong with installing carbon fiber parts and covers on a import vehicle as long as it is done tastefully and not over done like a lot of people do.

Love this topic, not so much blabla - action and a lot of pictures.

Great work on the carbon diffuser btw.

I'm in love with the upholstery work.

I think the polished metal shows the depth of the wheel better.

Wheels went on last night.Need to adjust my ride height and wheel alinement.

Spoiler part 5

Have not been on forum to much.Trying to get car done.A lot of small stuff taking longer than thought.
I like the look of the Mine or Powertrix spoiler extension.
Being a roadster they do not make one.
Thought the mock up was good.Made mold and did Carbon Fiber.Came out distorted and did not fit.
This is a lot of trial and error.Working on mock up again. Will make mold and see what happens.I do not know why this has been harder to do than other parts?
Will be 5th attempt. With time and money involved should have just stopped.
If I have to make more molds; one way or the other I will have a Carbon Fiber spoiler extension.
Starting to get personal.

ZontheRocks 05-29-2018 10:19 AM

The whole car is a sight to behold. Keep up the amazing work!

Went from 2 piece mold to 3 piece.
Changing break lines on 3 piece mold.Useing different foam for core.I will try less pressure pulling the resin through the Carbon Fiber.

Made CF AAM logo to balance look on back of car.

Side note.
I know most people are Fast Intensions.AAM did the motor and tune. The guy I worked with was great. He then left the company and things changed.

Sent car in for wheel alinement.
Showed technician air cup system raising front end 8".Showed where the switch was and how to work.

Another person went to put car on rack and did not air it up. He got hung up.He then steps on gas hard.

My car has a super light pedal. That is how I like it.Also has a lot of power.
He almost flew off back of ramp.

Punched hole in front bumper and tore off side blade.A lot of stuff twisted.
A few thousand in damage at least.

The front bumper is from Fly1 and took a little over 3 months to get.
I have used this shop for years. They do a lot of tuner and muscle cars.

They will pay but I want to drive this summer so will be doing repairs.

ZontheRocks 06-06-2018 03:51 PM

Damn. That's a stinker.

I am sure you'll have the car "back in the game", looking and performing well.

If the shop is paying top dollar, I have an authentic Fujimura bumper sitting in the garage, it could live on your ride and no waiting. ;) I am joking, I aint shipping that behometh.

Hope it is repaired real soon and you are back on the road. I have to imagine the yearly driving window for sports cars is short in your neck of the woods.

That is the worst part. Losing days I can drive the Z with our short summers.

Hate to make repairs to bumper that was new.Thinking of putting stock bumper on for summer and order new Fly1 bumper.

Spoiler

Pre fit on Spoiler.Have to cut and buff one more time.Car is dusty and driveway has a slope to the middle to drain war.
Next comes the infamous spoiler extension. After numerous attempts it came out pretty well.Needs to be cleared and sanded. The two should be together on car some time this week.

If you have followed build you know there is no factory spoiler for roadster.

I liked the look of the Mine style spoiler extension. There is no such thing for this.
I thought it would be good idea to make one in Carbon Fiber for the car.(was I wrong).
As you have seen on the tread it has been a rough go.From making the mock up for mold.Making several molds until I got right.Having trouble with resin.Numerous attempts at this.Working to get fit just right.

There it is.The only one of its kind that will fit that spoiler.

Not yet mounted it is just sitting on spoiler.3 coats of clear on extension.
One more cut and buff for extension and spoiler before final mounting.

Learned a lot about Carbon Fiber and making custom piece on this build.

Have over 120hrs into this extension from start to finish.I'm to stubborn to give up.

jchammond 06-12-2018 08:42 PM

Look's like it came from the Factory like that!

Baronsmokes 06-12-2018 08:55 PM

Thank You
Has been an adventure making a one of a kind piece. Not perfect but i will not point out the flaws.

Starting to Catch up.Some low resolution pics. Test fit.Added a lot more Carbon Fiber to add strength. The bumper is more solid now and still is very light.

madwi 06-14-2018 05:37 AM

Looking good, man!

Baron, how did you get started doing body work? Your results are excellent, and I'd love to learn some of this in the near future.

Thanks
It just practice and patient.Bought old car when I was a kid.No money so do it yourself. All my childhood friends do their own body work. When you are sanding on large panel it can be drudgery. The prep before you paint is everything.

Finished with this #### spoiler stuff and can move on.

It looks very nice. I would have hate to have been the guy driving the car during the alignment ramp episode. It would have been all I could do to not fly off the handle.

Very nice! Is there much of a blind spot with the A pillar gauges?

No not to bad.
The Z in general has a lot of blind spots.

When top is up you can not see much.

When top is down you still have blind spots as you sit low in car.
I'm 6Ft1 tall.

Nice to have fuel air mix close.
