Stuff just keeps on happening that's making me spend more money. My cousin's bringing in a 20ft container of wheels for some tour operator on island (Nissan Civilian bus wheels, nothing exciting) from Japan.

I'm waiting on confirmation but a set of Work T5R 2 piece wheels and a Varis hood will be headed my way soon.

It's set back buying stuff to finish assembling the motor when it gets here from AAM (timing chain/tensioner set, ati damper etc) but it's not often an opportunity like this comes along so I took it.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...ork-t5r-2p.png
19x10 20mm L disc up front
19x12 20mm R disc out back

I am not sure what tire I'll put on them but I need to stay out of spoolers thread cause I really don't wanna end up putting R888R's on a daily :icon17:

And you all know what the Varis hood looks like.

In related news AAM is saying 3 more weeks and the later year ac lines have arrived that should make the drivers side intake easier to make are here.

sirnixalot 02-13-2019 01:08 PM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...04-04-pm1.jpeg

It's really happening :happydance:

AAM says the machine shop should be finished with the block next week.

sirnixalot 03-01-2019 02:18 PM

Looks like things are on track for the most part with the motor but it's taking a little longer than hoped. They were closed a day or 2 with the crappy weather so not too much of a big deal.

Chase always answers the phone and always does his best to get me caught up on progress so I've got that going for me which is nice.

In related news I think getting the Varis hood fell through due to lead time, waiting on confirmation tomorrow morning when its morning in Japan.

madwi 03-01-2019 11:01 PM

I like those wheels a lot.

sirnixalot 03-02-2019 07:26 AM

Yeah I am a sucker for 5 spoke wheels. Stuck on what tires to get though, it's either get something that will grip and not last because of the 100 treadwear or get something cheaper that won't last because of the wheel spin.

The $1550 set of R888R's will end up costing me around $2400 after shipping and duty. It sucks that there are no 200tw options in the sizing we need that are reasonably priced (RS4, VR1, R1R, Rivals, V720).

Hankook V12's are what I'm leaning towards

sirnixalot 03-04-2019 03:04 PM

Just ordered up the gauges, the last of the fittings and an ATI damper from Summit.

Went with Innovate, the ECF-1, boost/rpm and oil pressure/temp. I guess I have enough time on my hands I can pull the dash and remove the stock center gauges.:ughdance:

sirnixalot 03-09-2019 07:20 AM

Got caught up in the chasing numbers game, used it as an excuse to not have to remove the motor to upgrade the turbo's after this. I also still have time before the motor is finished.

I'm buying a pair of FP Greens from Husam . I need to pull off my stock cores and send off to him as well.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...a651bf5003.jpg

The fuel system will need to be upgraded to max these out on X85 but I'll do that later since CJ-M's twin pump setup and ID1300's will be another ~$2k. So whatever the 1000's and Walbro 485 will support is what I will run for this year.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...1f0ee84bb7.jpg
Pulled the dash to remove the center gauges in preparation for the innovate gauges. Thanks to ryanO and this thread http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...e-cluster.html

I am having the car towed to a friends shop so I can use his lift and build the exhaust next sunday. Once that is done the waiting game continues

sirnixalot 03-22-2019 08:30 AM

Didn't end up getting access to a lift again so nothing to report other than I'm still here with my **** in my hand and no real information/update other than it's still at the machine shop. Not sure what that means as far as progress (have they touched it? was it honed? are they waiting on some back ordered part?)

I'm a pretty laid back guy so if it's delayed...meh. Just update me is all. Emails asking about any additional purchases are answered fairly promptly, emails asking for a little more specific update on where everything is at are ignored.

I know this comes as no surprise to some of you, I'm just venting as I have no one to blame but myself.

sirnixalot 03-27-2019 08:38 AM

Apparently the motor is almost finished. That would be nice.

That being said I have a temporary distraction! My wheels reached the freight forwarder (who has a potato camera)

Also pulled the trigger on a clutch, getting the OS Giken Street Masters twin plate. Just need to get another CMAK from Zspeed

sirnixalot 03-29-2019 09:56 AM

More distractions!
ATI Damper and gauges. I have a **** ton of fittings to plumb up the rest of the motor as well.

sirnixalot 04-06-2019 10:56 AM

Engine/parts are scheduled to be back from the machine shop by the end of next week! Assembly still has to happen and I assume things like the graded bearings will have to be ordered from Nissan so there is still some more time to wait.

sirnixalot 04-15-2019 08:00 AM

Modifying the stock triple gauges and ended up with this.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...-57-56-pm.jpeg

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...-05-49-pm.jpeg
I need to swap on the silver trim ring for this one.

It's gonna bug the **** out of me for a while that the ECF-1 uses white led's and the other 2 gauges use amber but I'll get over it.

BettyZ 04-16-2019 06:58 AM

How long have you been waiting on your motor?

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

sirnixalot 04-16-2019 08:45 AM

My issue isn't the wait, my issue is my expectations were incorrectly set. 4-6 weeks was what was quoted. 50% deposit for the short block was placed the 18th December, but that's Christmas time so I'm not even counting that. I changed things up and ended up doing a long block, the heads and cams/springs were delivered to them mid January. So I realize some delay is on me. The balance for everything was squared up on Jan 18th.

It appears their machine shop is swamped. The motor parts are still there as of yesterday.

I haven't given up hope yet, just sucks that I am the only one communicating. I've worked retail/customer service all my life and I really feel bad for Chase (the guy that answers their phone), he is doing the best he can with what little he has. Whenever it does ship out I gotta send him some rum, I know he needs it :rofl2:

sirnixalot 04-27-2019 08:55 AM

Got some work done over the long weekend we had here

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4670528580.jpg
After removing some material from the inner trim ring I just used a ton of hot glue to secure the gauges

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4670528581.jpg
I was busting my brain to figure out how to hold a nut on the back side of this when I remembered these speed nut clips. Worked like a charm.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...6380468300.jpg
Here they are installed and wired up. Just need to get some double sided tape to put on the cover pieces

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4670528579.jpg
The fuel pressure sensor wouldn't fit straight out the front or the side of the regulator. Unfortunately the oil temp and pressure sensor wires will need a little extending but that's not the end of the world.

sirnixalot 04-29-2019 08:36 AM

More little **** to keep my mind off the wait.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7979164740.jpg

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7979164741.jpg

I'll be changing out the hoses to the silicone but I wanted to make sure the BOV plumbing all worked out.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7979164743.jpg
Using the passenger side 8mm port that fed the EVAP stuff to supply the FPR and boost gauge. The drivers side will feed the boost control solenoid

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4729063497.jpg
Which I mounted where the one of the EVAP solenoids was.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7979164774.jpg
Since this AC line was quite close to the drivers side exhaust manifold heat shield I decided to get some DEI fire sleeve. This is the 1" ID velcro version. I'll grab some rescue tape today to tape up the ends

sirnixalot 04-30-2019 10:18 AM

Update is now that the engine parts should be back from the machine shop early next week.

sirnixalot 05-07-2019 08:42 AM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...-34-52-am.jpeg
Snugging up the fitting on the return side let me know I didn't tighten the bulkhead enough. So after removing the whole assembly and RFT'ing the bulkhead nut, everything is wired up and plumbed so I don't need to go back in here except to check for leaks when that day comes.

*edit* not sure why the embedded feature wont work

Active exhaust. I’ll be drilling a hole or 2 in the plate so it doesn’t completely block exhaust flow when closed. I have it on a double pole double throw switch.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...2c5097d39.jpeg
I welded 2 aluminum vbands to the cut out valve so it’s modular and I can remove it if the car ends up not so loud with the 4” exhaust

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...31f905361.jpeg
Still finding consistency on stainless to be difficult but I am getting better

sirnixalot 05-13-2019 01:55 PM

Short block is apparently done. The heads are scheduled to be back this week and apparently ready to ship out next week.

Hooray!

sirnixalot 05-14-2019 10:53 AM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...9867120702.jpg

I have been using WAY too much heat in the past. This was done at 40amps and no sugaring on the inside save for a few spots where i slowed down and didn't back off the pedal.

I am going to be giving solar flux a try when i start to weld the actual exhaust together.

The plan for the weekend though is to get the motor back out so I can box up the turbo's to send up to Husam.

sirnixalot 05-19-2019 07:36 AM

What a whirlwind last few days. Thursday night my boss tells me I MIGHT need to fly to Miami for the day to try and find an M.2 ssd for a stage lighting machine, the event is on Sunday night.

So I immediately go outside to pull the motor out of the car and remove the stock gtr turbos so I could take those with me.

No flights had seats on Friday so I get on the first flight out on Saturday which ended up being delayed by an hour. I get into Miami at 12:45pm and with the immigration line 4 miles long I got out of the airport at 4pm.

Never fly into Miami on a weekend

Dropped the turbos to Fedex and went hunting for this drive which I couldn’t find in that last minute scenario but I did at least get the stock turbos off to Husam.

Getting closer to the finish line!

husam2012 05-19-2019 02:52 PM

Can't wait to see the car finished! Everything looks very well put :)

BettyZ 05-19-2019 04:12 PM

Also enjoying this journey. If you're looking for something to do you could always re-loom and re-route all your engine bay wiring. Several posts on her with varying levels of intensity.

sirnixalot 05-19-2019 07:24 PM

I am honestly not trying to go to that level. I’ve done that with past projects but for this one I am not trying to over complicate things. Stock wiring is good for me on this build.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...821ca2134.jpeg
Got the fuel system plumbed in the bay. I couldn’t find black silicone tape so I used blue to seal the ends of the fire sleeve to stop the fiberglass from eventually falling out.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...8909b70fd.jpeg
One of the coolant lines with the fire sleeve treatment too

sirnixalot 05-23-2019 02:20 PM

Heads got back to them earlier this week and final assembly is happening. It does appear that the machine shop they use had a large work load. Since they say the parts have been back in their possession work has been progressing at a decent pace (although again different from the expectation that was set).

sirnixalot 05-23-2019 08:37 PM

My clutch arrived! Just need to order a new CMAK and the drivetrain is complete

sirnixalot 05-28-2019 04:42 PM

So no where has any 8AN aluminum bungs in stock so I gotta wait till next week for those. Here is the progress so far on my ARC/SOHO "inspired" catch can / coolant reservoir. I'm going to be sandwiching a small piece of scotchbrite to use as a filter to keep the profile low

Some of the the valves weren't sealing when they did the pressure test so it took some extra time to do a valve job (which is listed as something that's supposed to be done anyway :ugh2:)

Next week is the new new shipping time

In other news

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...-14-23-pm.jpeg
Found a pigtail locally to fix the crank sensor connector that I forgot to disconnect but the engine hoist didn't

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...-27-54-pm.jpeg
Right now I'm doing all of this on a stupidly small concrete slab and with everything coming together hopefully soon I decided to divert some money into pouring a 10x20 slab to be able to stretch out on. No way i can fab the exhaust in it's current situation etc. I'll be boxing up everything this weekend and I have the concrete truck booked for next thursday :happydance:

Man my back is sore. Getting too old for this manual labor stuff. I'm bringing home a compacter tonight to get the material packed down then I can add the plastic and the mesh. Need to get a cut off wheel to cut the rebar up to brace the form as well.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...67d3afd72.jpeg
Stick welding and I don't normally get along so well. The whole action of having to make circles with the rod, drag it along and push it down in one motion takes some patience to learn.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4601f4b6a.jpeg
Made some anchors for the 4x4 posts, only the thin galvanized stuff was available locally and they rust out so quickly. I know these will last once I get them painted up and are definitely above our building code. 1/2" rod welded to 3/16 plate.

Ironing out some final details today and hopefully I get a tracking number by friday.

Things left to get are:

Figure out if I am going to fly up to pick up the turbo's and timing chain kit (the ticket is cheaper than shipping direct or using a forwarder)
Zspeed CMAK, pilot bushing and clutch alignment tool

Things left to fabricate are:
Full exhaust
Intakes

So they finally caved and sent me a pic of the motor (been asking for some for at least 3-4 weeks now)

sirnixalot 06-13-2019 02:13 PM

The powder coating guy left island for 6 weeks and since we do PPG paint ant work I mixed a half pint of Nissan FAK metallic teal. Thinking about doing the timing covers and possibly the valve covers in this.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...ee24c1eb6.jpeg

sirnixalot 06-17-2019 09:01 AM

Got the car in the air, the exhaust dropped and the diff taken out.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...6ce90e1ae.jpeg

Converted it to 1.5way and swapped on the Z1 diff cover. I've got 2 liters of the OS giken fluid to fill it with in hopes it will calm the harshness since I didn't deactivate any plates. I'll get it reinstalled at some point this week when someone can lend me a hand.

gbrettin 06-18-2019 03:04 PM

Awesome stuff in this build. I'm following.
