I cleaned up the runners on my intake manifolds today. I'm waiting till later tonight when its a bit cooler to do a 3rd gear pull.

I was able to smooth where the throttle body transitions to the plenum pretty well. After that all i did was take down any lips from where the 2 parts are formed together.

For the lower, I just smoothed out all the casting flash on the side of the ports and port matched the openings.

Next week I up the MAF tube size to 2.75" and get a retune for everything.

Had a blast at the track again yesterday. I really need some more power to keep up with all the nitrous powered....well everything.

sirnixalot 06-07-2018 01:18 AM

Well since everything else is out there on a power payment plan, I followed suit it would seem.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...abcdc9ebe.jpeg
Mounted up the switches and controller on a carbon sheet I made a while back

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...dba273bed.jpeg
The main line is run and the solenoids mounted. I need to weld the 1/16"NPT bungs in the intakes tomorrow to finish up.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...74b824a1a.jpeg
I also got a set of Hotchkis sways in finally. I have the rear set to the softest setting since I am running a square tire/wheel setup. Holy **** what a difference.

I've got some more turbo related stuff in the works, mainly O2 hoursings & coolant adapter from Husam and a Z1 oil pan spacer from another forum member. I also managed to score a set of low mileage ID1050x injectors locally from a friend as well.

All that's left is some intercooler and intake piping, fuel pump, oil/water lines, misc gaskets/fasteners & a GTR map sensor

sirnixalot 07-14-2018 08:05 PM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...dyno-runs.jpeg

Finally got everything finished with the nitrous. Logged 2 back to back runs for some virtual dyno action.

If this is what an extra 100whp feels like, I am super excited for when I end up with boost next year.:happydance:

shot of the Z1 oil pan spacer and the monster Earls sandwich plate. I had to end up removing it to source a smaller foot print Mocal plate since the Earls blocked the oil drain port on the Z1 spacer

sirnixalot 07-30-2018 06:31 PM

Well I can say for sure that the oil cooler is doing its job. I haven't seen temps pass 180* during normal driving around and its consistently in the 90's here. At the track yesterday I hit 200* compared to 230-235* at the last track meet.

I made the jump from 5w40 to 20w50 as well so not sure if that has anything to do with it.

sirnixalot 08-15-2018 06:16 PM

Big thanks to husam2012

Got a good chunk of whats left to go boosted.

sirnixalot 09-05-2018 04:59 PM

Almost finished gathering everything!

I am waiting on intercooler piping & turbo fittings before I put the car in the air.

sirnixalot 11-07-2018 08:10 AM

Final round of parts have been purchased! Charles from CJ-M fixed me up with the S1.SE fuel system and a Walbro 450 and the rest of the exhaust materials and turbo fittings are in route from Summit.

I decided last minute to go flex fuel since the company I work for is now a VP Fuels dealer and we get the X85 at an awesome price, so I need to get the sensor and pig tail for that to work out.

Motor will be pulled early next month to get the turbo's on and all the intercooler and exhaust fab work done.

sirnixalot 11-08-2018 02:48 PM

Got up off my *** today and fab'd up the cold side piping. I'm trying to spread out the fab work as best I can so it's not so overwhelming when I pull the motor.

I still have the hot side, intakes and the entire exhaust to fab.

I'm going to have to order one of those universal washer bottles off amazon to put in the trunk since there was no way the stock one is going to work.

will do!

Picking up the fuel system and the rest of the turbo lines in Miami next week. Only hold up now is to get the company car (R53 mini that sheered 3rd gear) back up and running so I have something to drive while the Z goes under the knife

sirnixalot 11-23-2018 12:06 PM

Got in on some of Z1's blackfriday hotness. Ordered their transmission mount (to compliment their engine mounts that I got from Husam) and rear diff cover along with a new clutch switch since mine is giving me trouble when I try to start the car.

sirnixalot 12-04-2018 03:51 PM

Well, stupid mistakes are the most expensive. I neglected to check my oil level when I was at the track sunday. Ran a rod bearing dry and now I need a rebuild.

I've been emailing all the vendors all day and trying to be realistic with myself and my goals. With varying time frames and some with me not wanting to supply a core I am not sure will be usable I am pretty sure I'm going with AAM and their stage 1.

The upside is I'll get to see what the R35 turbo's can really do next year.

Yeah it was, there's only another year on the lease so we're all trying to enjoy it while we can

One year? That sucks!

sirnixalot 12-06-2018 08:34 AM

Yeah, the company running it (just a small group of racers) is hoping they get first offer at purchasing the land or continuing the lease once the current lease is up.

Since the car is going no where I've gone ahead and done the CJM mod's to the fuel pump holder and installed the Walbro 450. Will put that back in the tank this weekend.

I am trying to get the financing secured to add a garage onto my house so fingers crossed I can get through with that so I have and area to do all this major work.

Engine to swap, hot pipes to build, entire exhaust to build, fuel system to install, turbo's to install.

Hope that track can be saved! Otherwise it's what? AutoX in parking lots?

sirnixalot 12-06-2018 01:16 PM

Autox has died out, we finally ran out of places to do it. There is another drag racing association that got a gov lease on some land but they are too busy **** measuring to produce any results.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...8443408364.jpg
In with the new CJ-M hotness! Walbro 450 and their return stuff installed. I have managed to send the clips for the spring rods to another dimension so I need to mod some small plastic bushings to fit before I can reassemble everything.

Charles tossed in a U fitting and quick connect fitting for free when I told him I was adding a flex fuel sensor. Can't go wrong with both the quality of the parts and the customer satisfaction :nutswinger:

I'm imitating this setup having the sensor on the return.

sirnixalot 12-12-2018 08:02 AM

Placed an order with AAM for their stage 1 short block! I didn't see the need for the Carillo's since I am not looking for any more loss of traction that the GTR turbo's can provide.

So while I wait for it to be built I've got my Z1 cart plum full and waiting to destroy whatever christmas bonus comes my way :rofl2:

ARP 19 head studs
Z1 valve stem seals
Z1's OEM timing chain kit with all the add on's
JWT C2 exhaust cam kit

I sourced the full OEM gasket kit from Husam

Finished up the fuel pump assembly last night.

Relocating the car so we can start pulling the motor out, only to put it back in to finish all the fab work.

wideglideleon 12-13-2018 11:19 AM

That is one sexy looking fuel pump assembly.

sirnixalot 12-14-2018 04:53 PM

Got the cylinder heads from Elmo370z:tup: They are on their way to AAM for them to bolt onto the short block.

Can't wait to get this thing back on the road

sirnixalot 12-22-2018 03:49 PM

Figured I'd go overboard while waiting for everything to arrive.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3777965229.jpg

Tig welded a -4AN male fitting onto the actuators. 35 amps and someone pouring water on the actuator can the whole time. Pressure tested and all is well.

sirnixalot 12-27-2018 07:09 AM

Got some work done on boxing day. The front end is off and the harness is disconnected from the engine. I'm making an engine hoist adapter later so this weekend I can pull the motor out and get it on the stand.

Plan is to bolt up the turbo's and do what plumbing mock ups i need to on the stand, then put the broken motor back in and the front end back on to sort the intercooler piping and at least get the down pipes done.

We pulled a vq25 out of a skyline with a much lighter duty bracket using only the 2 intake manifold studs. Thinking i might add some side pieces to use 4 more bolts though.

Got the engine out today and started the mock up for the plumbing. I ordered the oil lines way too short so I'll have to get the correct length. The block coolant drain plugs are bspt. I'll be welding some 6an bungs to those tomorrow and drilling a hole through them to supply the turbos with coolant.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...0427076601.jpg
It's a snug fit in here to say the least, I'll be cutting a quarter inch off the intake adapter so I can start the bend farther back, welding is the only option i see here

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3382837254.jpg

Welded up the coolant fittings, I still need to hit them with a wire wheel to take off the burnt zinc coating

Used a counter sink bit to taper the inlet

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3382837257.jpg
Proof of concept. I will be using a 6AN Tee with a female on the adapter side so a 90* can go to the passenger turbo and a 45* or 60* can go down to the drivers side.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3382837258.jpg
A shot of the water feed and oil drain. The turbo feed line I ordered was about 8" too short. I'm ordering a 36" line since this is a 27". The upper coolant port uses a 180* fitting to point under the manifold and up the back of the block.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3382837261.jpg
Passenger side, what a tight fit. I had to cut off a piece of the compressor housing casting to clear the 90* fitting. A 120* might work better.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7844255720.jpg
Here's a shot from underneath showing that line

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7844255721.jpg
Actuator mounting mod after clocking the compressor housing clockwise

Tomorrow I MIGHT see about pushing the motor back in the bay. If I can do that then its hot side and intake piping time:ughdance:

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7103523862.jpg
Got the broken engine with the turbos on back in along with the radiator support, intercooler and cold side piping.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7657941059.jpg
This bracket that the wiring harness clips to will need trimming to run the intake for the passenger side

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...0060839937.jpg
I need to adjust the compressor housing clockwise a small amount but the hot side piping is pretty simple. There is no way in hell i can fit an intake to run the way i want to run it without converting to the newer low side ac line. I also need a lower profile fitting than that big *** -12AN off the coolant adapter plate. I have a 1/2" NPT to 3/4" hose barb in the summit cart

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...0060839935.jpg
I'm gonna have to bend the newer low side ac line up a bit and fire sleeve it as well.

I'm having a well deserved day off tomorrow with my son, thursday I'll be tack welding the hot side piping together and confirming fitment.

I also need to get my VVEL ladders off to AAM next week as well so they can bolt everything down with the C2's

sirnixalot 01-02-2019 07:10 PM

I got the hot side pipes mocked up for the most part. I'll make a few tweeks tomorrow and weld them all up.

Trying to get an idea if i can fit a 2.5" intake and it appears I can. I see pizza slices of tubing in my future.
http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...9874525180.jpg

Problem is I need to pull the motor back out to do it :owned: I knew that going in though so no biggie

I'll probably pull the motor back out weekend so i can get half of both intakes done, basically get them in front of the accessories. After that I can finish the intakes when the built motor gets here.

sirnixalot 01-03-2019 01:28 PM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...6539128827.jpg
Hot sides done

sirnixalot 01-09-2019 07:27 AM

Well looks like its an AAM stage 1 long block now! They are still going to pull down the heads I got from ElmoZ to do a 3 angle valve job which I wasn't expecting financially but it will be worth it for sure. I should find out today how far back that sets me time wise.

I've pulled all the accessories off the motor and started pulling the timing covers but have decided to leave the timing covers on until the new motor arrives so nothing can go missing.

sirnixalot 01-11-2019 03:03 PM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...3fc71a1160.jpg
Well as you can see things are a bit tight on the drivers side. I had 2 options, a little longer and more complicated intake and leave the stock AC lines alone or mod the AC lines and have a shorter intake.

I decided it was better to be able to pick up off the shelf AC lines rather than have to mod any future ones if I did end up needing.

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4277187725.jpg
As a result, I have this pizza slice S to side step the AC compressor and run the intake above the hot pipe

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...4277187724.jpg
The passenger side appears to be a little less work. I will be testing these mock ups later on today. This exits by the power steering pump, I am hoping i can just do another couple pizza slices to point them to point where traditional intakes go through the radiator support

sirnixalot 01-18-2019 08:54 AM

http://www.the370z.com/members/sirni...7737696299.jpg

Nothing much to update other than I have run the CJ-M fuel line and mounted the filter. I had to end up fishing a wire down from above and using it to pull the fuel line up from the bottom. It was a bit of a pain. I ended up loosening the return fitting trying to fit my hands in odd places above the tank so i have to pull the fuel hat to retighten that.
