KE_1508's Journal- 08 Nismo 350z #1508/(upcoming '14 Nismo 370Z)

@Hotrodz, if you keep tracking the car during summer you'll lose another 15 for sure. I know I lost a good bit of weight after our April session.

Update:

-Still looking out for a red 14 Nismo. Hopefully, one will pop up in the future.

-Lately, I've been contemplating about my previous tune. We all know that Ecutek was never originally offered for the 350 so I had to stick with Uprev. When I first flashed the car from stock, it was GREAT. The throttle response was crisp and loved the ARC features that Uprev implemented (flat foot shifting, launch control/rolling launch). During this past April's trackday, I mentioned to Hotrodz the car wasn't feeling right between 4-5k, but it would pull hard up to redline. I had emailed my tuner in an attempt to correct this.

After sending a few data logs the next day, he pulled a significant amount of timing. Rest assured, the car wasn't detonating (pre-ignition). Fast forward a few months later, the engine never felt the same. I kept the original tune from December and reflashed it to reassess.

A few months passed, 10-12 data logs later, I'm still not sure about it. Tbh, you can't fully enjoy a car when it doesn't feel right. Do y'all agree?

-So now what?

Well, I recalled Hotrodz mentioning Seb at Specialty Z. Considering his mileage/use/and being FI, Seb had my interest. After doing some more research, it seemed like many of y'all have had great experiences with him both pre-purchase to after-purchase support. Hopefully, he can get my car squared away that way I can actually drive it at Road Atlanta during Z Nationals without worry.

What sucks is, I should have gone up to California to get tuned at the dyno by Seb. It would have been a lot closer. So I'm hoping he can get it pretty close with a remote tune.

Update:

Been so busy with work that I haven't had the chance to post up. Anyhow, the session with Hotrodz is still underway. The issue is having to sync two different length videos so it matches up in GoPro studio.

*Just a tip for those using that application, make sure that both videos are the same length and quality. GoPro won't allow you to mesh a side by side video together without that.

As for the Z/Z's, been a bit tied up with work to look/search around. I'm sure in due time, I'll be able to find one to my liking. It's pretty difficult to find a 14 in red with low mileage. As for the 350, I finally was able to fulfill my promise to the car and myself that I would refresh it this year prior to Z Nationals. Pulled the trigger on the new TE37 Sagas in bronze. I liked the OEM wheels in the K11 paint code, but bronze seems to contrast the Nogaro red more than the factory color.

As for tires, it's hard to choose. I've ran the Neova AD08rs and currently on the Ventus RS3 Ver. 2's. They've both been great!

->My only gripe with the RS3s is the lack of sidewall stiffness, but I feel like you
have a little bit of cushion when it's over the limit. In addition, y'all might find it
funny when I mention rain in AZ. lol During a drive back home on the 17, it ended
raining. At 70-75 mph, it felt a bit squirrely compared to the AD08rs. Could be due
to the tread design. It was necessarily uncontrollable, but you have a feeling it could
hydroplane if you're weren't delicate in your inputs.

->RS3 positives: I have to say this is one of the best damn tires I've driven on despite
my reticence towards the sidewalls. They really communicate well to you. I can't
recall how many times, the car felt planted, but at the same time the tires speak to
you. If you go beyond the limit, just ease off the throttle and back off the steering
angle.

->RS3 Street ability: So far they've held up very well for the past 1k miles (100
degree AZ heat with a day of track use). Most likely can go 4 sessions with some
street driving mixed. Will update since the car will see more street use when it
arrives.

-Noise: Not too bad at all. Considering I've been dailying a Tomei w/an XYZ, it's
no issue. lol

Tire choices: Been going between a Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Hankook Ventus RS4, and of course a Bridgestone RE71R. It's a shame that Yokohama didn't have a 35 profile series for their Neovas in a 275.

Update:

So I finally bit the bullet and finally chose wheels and tires. Thanks again John @ Corner 3 for all the continued support!

Volk TE37 Sagas (bronze spec)

-18x10.5+24 R & 18x9.5+24 front

As for tires, I'm planning on conducting an extensive review on the RE71Rs since there hasn't been a decent review of the tire's life (street and track use).

Bridgestone RE71Rs

-Rear->275/35/18

-Front->255/35/18
