Scotts Project 370z
So about time I got a build thread up for this I think. The 350z has gone, I sold it to Steve a few weeks back so at least it's not gone far :)
Last decent pics I got of it before it went: http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psg28teklr.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psearundye.jpg Sad to let it go, so then promptly bought it's replacement from Adrian back at the end of august. It's a 2009 370Z GT Ultimate Edition with the 7AT gearbox. Paddle Shift was defiantly part of my criteria when it came to getting a 370 for me so I am happy to tick that off the list :) It's a low mileage CAT D with just over 24K on the clock. Originally taken in by RT-performance after the incident a few years ago. A full write up can be found on their website of the damage, and repair work carried out on it. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0jxpflj1.jpg# It comes with a few nice mods already in place, such as the retrimmed steering wheel, R35 GTR gear knob and braided lines with DS200 pads. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...s3ahyfgrq.jpeg Thankfully a perk of the purchase meant I was able to start my ownership with a full respray. Its going 'Visual Pearl'. A nissan peal white, which is a bit whiter than normal 370z's. How it looked when I made the purchase http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...se7itiqmi.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sugd6bepo.jpeg Being as it was in the bodyshop I took advantage of this and made my first purchase. An amuse style bodykit from RT. Haven't got any out of the box pictures but consists of -Front bumper -Rear bumper -Side skirts Thankfully it's already dewipered, but I requested for the roof and wing mirrors to be painted gloss black and that we keep it debadged. The wing unfortunately requires a little more work when it comes to sourcing it, with it having to come from either Japan of America. Though I finally have it sorted, they just need to make it so a few months yet :) Threw into the deal at the time of purchase was a set of new TORQEN S coilovers. So to help keep the car in alignment after I bought some Eibach rear camber arms. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psoqcadnja.jpg The car was in the bodyshop for just over 3 months, so getting impatient I started loading up the house with some parts :) Firstly I got my headlight internals painted black, with white bezals. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...syxovkohv.jpeg Had to get a picture with them next to my facelift 350Z lights I never got round to fitting.. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ss9m6a79e.jpeg Also bought some Recaro Cross Sporster CS seats. Leather with suede centres :D http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...svuapep4h.jpeg So I sent off my headlights back off to RT along with some jap sized plates I had made up ready for the new bumpers. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sxn68mxfv.jpeg Next up was the exhaust. Plan was always to take the GTR systemt that I had on the 350 and get it on the 370. But Steve really wanted it and somehow convinced me it would be better for him to buy me a new one. So we left it on the 350 and he drove me up to Peterborough to pick up the replacement. Once we got it back I set about making a start in preparation for taking it up to Grant @ GCF. In all its glory with just the midpipe cut and tips removed (getting quite a collection now!) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ssb7e1njv.jpeg progress http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sy6tospde.jpeg It was filthy http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sh6iqfl09.jpeg looking better http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...swq7kxg46.jpeg And even had a little go with taking some flames to it to play around with the burnt look. Iv since cleaned it up and I was to clean it up more, but will defiantly be doing this again at the end :D http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sgadw9mv5.jpeg Bodyshop pics to follow! |
Nice build so far!

Nice work....

looks great!!!

Very Nice, keep it going!!!!

Very nice! Excited to see the exhaust!

And finally collection day arrived! December the 5th Jak and I hopped onto the train aiming to get to RT for 5pm. There are a few bits that still needed sorting still such as the flashing airbag light, find the rear fog and windscreen washer cap. And also the engine bay and interior need a good clean. But I had waited so long and I had it in my head I was getting it that day so I thought ill take it and clean it myself and they can just send me the parts when eventually found.
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sabkit5f1.jpeg Was so happy to finally see the car in person and man do I love the paint. I expected to really like it, but I love it. Exactly what I wanted out of the colour. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sckqxsydm.jpeg Was at RT a few hours chatting with Adrian (good finally meeting you mate) and going through everything with the Z. We was also introduced to the GTR.... my god it was something else! That thing is unreal! Fuel ready for the journey home! http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...s06epttxh.jpeg |
The following weekend the rain held out so took the opportunity to get my Rotas on. Bought myself some Muteki SR48 nuts for the occasion.
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psznsnsvif.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6dnsbrh5.jpg New nuts and caliper decals http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psv5nkqcwz.jpg Everything in its place http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psjkaxwk7v.jpg And a complete fitted picture to finish off for now http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psdxybbsji.jpg Very happy with the fitment on the front, though I think the rears could really benefit from some spacers. Just quickly using the eye ruler I'm thinking 20mm but ill get out there soon with a proper ruler and go from there :) Thanks for looking :D |
So finally got round to another little mod, of fitting the GTR starter button. I personally love it and think for the ease and difference it makes to the cabin its a worthwhile little mod.
Old one http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5v0jwmwk.jpg 30 seconds later http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pstuszhydu.jpg And all in http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psostremnk.jpg After that we thought we'd tackle fitting in my bonnet pop up light cancellors. Fit more involved with the removal of engine bay plastics, scuttle panel, wipers and strut brace, and then a few hard to reach plugs so lucky I had Steve and Jak on hand, cheers guys! http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psegvgr8ce.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psuypnhtl8.jpg Just need to attempt the light reset procedure a few more times to see if thats been enough to get rid of it... |
I just realized that your Z is RHD haha Turned out beautiful! Can't wait to see the seats in the cockpit.
|
looks great! I need to do my headlights!
|
Car looks greal.
Although seeing Rotas on there makes baby jesus cry |
No Rotas please
|
Thanks for the comments guys :)
And with the Rotas, I would love to change them out for some te37's or even a style change to some works one day, but cannot justify the extra £2k + atm, will happen one day but there are many other things to tick off the list first :) |
So long time no update... copy and pasted from other forum..
So a few (belated) updates. Firstly tackling my dash light issues and my 'loose' steering wheel. So a visit to Sly@Kaizer was in order! http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psokhx9gfn.jpg Shortly after having the car Sly and the guys got to the bottom of my issues. The airbag light was caused by a broken spiral cable, which also caused the steering wheel controls on the right hand side to not work. This was ordered and fitted on my next visit a few weeks later. My loose steering wheel was literally a loose bolt, in the steering collumn. They also picked up on the rear droplinks which needed replacing and that the toe bolts were 350z ones, which are slightly shorter than the 370 ones, so they didn't reach into the locking part of the nut. Again these were ordered and replaced a few weeks later. Which we then discovered that the toe bolt hole still needed elongating to allow for the additional adjustment of the eccentric washer. With regards to my annoying bonnet pop up light, I was feeling optimistic with my new cancellors fitted. I was even armed with a replacement ecu module. However the diagnostics revealed the cancellors loop out the bonnet actuators, stopping it from firing, not the sensors and the system itself. Meaning the only way to clear my light, was to replace the 3 missing sensors... £1300 from Nissan. :scare: However, a continual search led me to a breaking 370, that had no front end damage! So here we are, 3 replacement sensors.. Lets hope this does the job! http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psp3dbnqds.jpg Just want to say a huge thanks to sly and the guys for their help and advice with everything so far. When sourcing the sensors in particular the breakers and I had several queries and Sly was always there to help! I also have my rear fog light now, and along with my sensors I got the backing plate for the foglight so I can get that on soon now! |
Another update was my exhaust! I finally have the GTR backbox fitted! :D :D A welcome milestone for me was being able to take that awful oem system off. On my way back from Kaizer I went to Pipecraft, who I had previously spoken with in detail about this. Another place I would highly recommend.
Unfortunatley I haven't really got any pictures as my phone had died at this point. I must get a better picture and of course a video clip! http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...stz8ozj73.jpeg The original plan was to replicate what I had on the 350. Mid pipe silencers out, GTR backbox in place of OEM. As mentioned earlier I had already cut everything off in preparation this time. Once the old backbox was off and we offered up the GTR one, we had a change of plan. Being a bit of a tool, and trying to go one better than last time, I thought it would be a good idea to get a nice shine from the backbox. Which I was taking the right steps towards, however it turns out that everything on the system is only mild steel, the box isnt stainless As i previously thought. The one of the 350 remained nice was because I only 'tidied' that one up.... not starting to sand off what turned out to be the protective layer.. We opted to separate the 2 cans that make up the gtr backbox, and put each one in each midpipe. and have the backbox area as straight pipes. The advantages to this were not having a potentially tarnished box on show, much more direct airflow, and of course a much easier job fitting it, as to do so meant having to have pipes loop over/under each other. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...srgasemsw.jpeg The setup is basically the same as before just the other way around. instead of straight pipe then backbox, we effectively have back box then straight pipe. Its interesting though hearing the difference in sound of the 370 in comparison to the 350. Will have to get a video up of them both together some time! |
So the car is going to be having some more changes soon! Its currently in for some suspension changes as I have finally made the leap for air suspension. I cannot wait!
Gone with the Airlift performance struts, 3/8 lines, 444 compressor and 3p Management. Been playing with the mobile app now for the past month or so, cant do anything with it yet obviously... but I am excited  Should be a nice update come the weekend! So my barely used Torqen coilovers will be up for sale shorlty, and maybe some of my Amuse kit if theres any interest? |
So, I am buzzing! Big thanks to Car Audio Security! They were great with everything, customer service and the install itself were all spot on! So yeah, this happened...
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55lp45or.jpg And the boot install (needs a clean from where I loaded it up to get everything back). Hardware is all hidden underneath the new floor, with half a tank on show, and being half boxed in it gives me a good usable space without having to worry about bits bashing into the tank or anything :) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psddxlm8z1.jpg Had a chance to have a good play with it last night. Using the app I connected up my phone, which connects and operates flawlessly, enabled the rise on start feature and also played around with my presets. Safe to say I'm very impressed! :D :D |
So after not being happy with my bodykit I made the jump and went for another :p
I was noticing more and more differences between the amuse rep kit I got from RT and the real/alternative ones. The rear bumper I currently have is far less aggressive in just about every aspect, the side profile is completely different too. I also noticed the side skirts were similarly subtle compared to what is usually one of the more aggressive side skirts for the 370z. Measurements told me the sides will sit an inch lower than the rear and will flare out a lot more too. The front bumper was probably the worst offender under this logic but I was set on changing it to the mk1 nismo anyway (which was always my plan from the start) I Love the amuse kit and its one of the things that drew me to the 370, just not my one. So as I needed to import my Amuse wing anyway, I combined the shipping and made up the rest of the parts from Shine. So my order with Shine: -Amuse Rear Bumper (Carbon Accent) -Amuse Rear Wing (Carbon Accent) -Amuse Side skirts Also made the order through Sly to get my Nismo Front bumper with arch liners. |
So still waiting on the bumpers and wing. Looks like it could be another 3-4 weeks off yet. A quick snap of the car the other day as the carpark lighting really bought the pearl out!
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psk7emvdfr.jpg The front nismo conversion can require quite a list of parts to get it all fitted, so I have made a start by buying Parello's spare nismo lower OE splitter http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0locanjj.jpg And a couple of required brackets, which I got from ZSpeed. They are made from thick stainless steel unlike the oem ones, and still much cheaper than Nissan items :) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psou5qwd1o.jpg |
Had another package arrive last week! ZSpeed aluminum undertray for the nismo bumper.
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2be7lcrq.jpg The bumper requires a different undertray anyway, and the stock item is madly overpriced so thought I'd take the opportunity to go for the allumium one. Advantages of this is the increased bumper rigidity it gives, something I liked from having the Torqen item on the 350z. Other added perks it has a quick access hatch for oil/filter changes and also a vent to channel air towards and accross the oil pan. A win win I thought. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psotorojpj.jpg Unfortunately I have a small oil leak coming from the seal on my propshaft, so I am booked in to see Sly @ kaizer again on Tuesday to get this replaced, fluid changes and to pick up my new front bumper :) |
So, I was at Slys a week or 2 ago to get a fluid change, fit my bonnet pop up sensors and check out an oil leak that I had suspected.
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psgwrpe4b9.jpg Good news the sensors worked! So no more error lights on the dash for the first time since ownership :D Next was to look at that leak. They found the seal between my propshaft and gearbox to be leaking. As it was a slow leak and the seal needed to be ordered in, I arranged to come back and get my fluid changed then. So I returned to Kaizer, got my seal done along with a P1. And also picked up my new front bumper! Some very nice GTR's there too! B) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sooy75ugz.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psrk5xhqjh.jpg The plan was to go straight to the bodyshop with the bumper and drop my car off. This was going to tie in nicely as my Amuse kit from Shine was due to arrive within the week. It did. Thankfully Jak was a top guy and came up with me to help take the bumper to the shop, and then me home. There was however a miscommunication though as when I met him in the morning he was in his S2000.. Tried as we did the bumper doesn't fit in an s2000 :surrender: http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psfckp6cvn.jpg So had to call on Elliot was also a top guy to offer his courier services with his golf. Undertray in the Z. Front diffuser in the s2k and bumper in the golf. We made our way to the bodyshop. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psf2jhesoj.jpg Which is where its left ready for the new kit. (rest was still on its way) A big thankyou to both Jak and Elliot for their help today, appreciate it guys! A couple of pictures a friend took outside a mates house the other day also: http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pswsb3gze2.png http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4jgw14gw.png http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psr3q9l6db.jpg |
New front starting to take shape :D
Number plate holes, washer jets and badge recess smoothed. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sr1oqf09z.jpeg |
Rest of the kit arrived today so the bodyshop sent me some pictures! So happy with it so far!
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...smdckp4qp.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sf646yhpo.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...siwd7ae2y.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sedmofr68.jpeg |
Bumpers are primed and in for paint with the carbon bits masked off ready, hoping to pick it up complete Monday!
http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sui5om9v8.jpeg |
So picked the car up from the bodyshop today, and I love it! Elliot was a top man again as he kindly went to pick up my remaining nismo arch liner from Slys and deliver it to the bodyshop for me, thanks again for that mate! And thanks to the guys at Legends for their work on the Z!
Fully intend on going out with the camera and getting some more pictures but heres a few iphone ones from when I picked it up. http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sr2imyp6h.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...swcaggqqw.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sdzltvqiy.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sipxuolky.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sztcwvqwx.jpeg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...sawildqim.jpeg |

Had a small but annoying issue spanning over the last few days, took it out for a drive and the clocks and dials started flickering. Under harder driving driving everything was getting hesitant, at one point the nav screen even went off. Got it home to find the battery terminal was loose. I know they had the battery off as I had to reset the windows and radio stations were gone, so initially figured it just needed tightening. To my shame I didn't have a 10mm spanner so had to borrow one from a friendly neighbor. It wouldn't tighten anymore though so packed it out with some copper strips. Jobs a gooden. Went to halfords today to get myself some spanners, went to leave and it wouldnt start again. Same thing again, luckily I had my spanner I had just bought to get me home!
Removed a bit of plastic to start looking at how I can get it to clamp more and notice it was broken  http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psmmjsszvf.png So nipped out to get a new terminal clamp job done, properly this time :p Now back to looking for seat rails! |
No real updates but had a good time out in the z at the weekend. First time for a while that I have been able to go out in it driving with a few friends and properly enjoy it, be it short lived due to the weather!
Parked up with my old, soon to be bagged 350 :p http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psgyq0i1eu.jpg Today I managed to get hold of a new crimp connector for my show n go plate as it doesn't fit my new battery clamp currently, and also I made a start on my bracket to mount my airlift controller. |
So the location of the Airlift controller had been bugging me for a while. I had it in the armrest cubby which I didn't find ideal. I spent some time looking for a better location to mount it and after weighing up my options I went for to the left of the steering wheel and to the right of the centre console/starter button.
I had intended on bolting my bracket on. With this In mind I made it so the holes would be in the lower part of the dash trim, a place I thought wouldn't be as bad should I ever choose to remove it, as its more discreet and an easier item to replace. So I made my bracket. The material used was more than sturdy so I cut a hole for some weight saving  http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pslipdwr9f.jpg Some paint and foam pads later http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0uorq8xu.jpg Then onto removing some plastics to re route the cable to the footwell http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4zlqbw4u.jpg And wallah all mounted http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1icwrmmk.jpg I am very pleased with it and its a massive improvement over being in the cubby. It feels solid when pressing the buttons, which are now much easier to access. Obviously not 100% visible without moving my head but its still much easier to use and was a more simple mounting option. I'll just touch up the bolts with some black touch up paint to help blend them in and im happy! Also had a great day at Meguires this weekend organized by Amy (thanks Amy!) and was good to meet a few new faces! :) http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psfl8rbd2x.jpg Thats al for now, thanks for looking :) |
Nice Z man, did you ever get a chance to make an exhaust clip? I'd love to hear your setup
