Hey ban. You going to tear down the old motor? For ***** and giggles. Check the condition of the oil pump. And check the piston tops and combustion chamber for signs of detonation. Might see areas of missing metal in those areas. If it was bad enough. Some of the piston tops might look like silly putty that got hard.

I've had the coated FI LTH's since they first came out. Never had issues with them yet.

Well, not having a car sucks, especially when my friends are out at the track this weekend! So I played Need For Speed and Project CARS, then I watched the Need For Speed movie, and then I decided to look through my track footage. Here's my fastest lap at Buttonwillow, 2:09.52, from the session before my engine blew:
|
Well, it's been six months, but we're in the home stretch!
The new engine is in and all that's left is to install all the goodies: http://i.imgur.com/vsHEYk6.jpg - Fast Intentions Long Tube Headers - NISMO S-Tune Springs & Struts - SPL Suspension - CJMotorsports Road Race Pump - CJMotorsports Billet Aluminum Oil Pan - OSGiken Twin Plate Clutch - OSGiken 1.5-way LSD http://i.imgur.com/kMCktXe.jpg Can't wait to get back out on the track! |
Awesome dude!!!!!
|
Yahoo...it is almost go time! You should be ready to go by the time the temps start to drop off. I just can't imagine doing track days right now!

Well, the car is done and has been on it's first break-in cruise:
A *lot* has been done to it, so let's go over the list:
http://i.imgur.com/hzLnOMN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AeLJaFq.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VN4zQ8j.jpg I've put 200 miles on it so far. Incredible power and torque, super crisp handling! The car feels like it's been carved from a solid piece of billet! I can't wait to get her on the track -- likely early next month, if not sooner! Special thanks to Rob, Josh, and the rest of the crew at Z Car Garage for putting her back together! There'll be a blog post about the build up soon! |
Don't forget to post a dyno chart. |

Sorry man, a bit off topic here but what camera are you using on your track vids? The resolution is wonderful, my gopro doesnt look as clear and smooth as yours.

Wow I didnt even know they had a tow hook mount, thats awesome. And youre right, Ive been using suction cup mount on the outside of my Z. Thanks man! |
I completed my first event since the rebuild two weeks ago at Laguna Seca. Conclusion: The car's fast, but I'm rusty (Exhibit A: https://youtu.be/otc1sAzDXEU) after so many months off the track that I will need more practice to get back into the groove. One big relief: no sound issues at Laguna, even on a 90db day! So, why did it take so long to get back on track? Well, it turns out the 3500 rpm/limp mode issue I was seeing was the result of a slipped cam encoder ring: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wol...derslipped.pdf Something to keep in mind if anyone else has similar symptoms. |
I'll be back at Laguna Seca on 12/26 and right after that I'll be taking the car to the shop for maintenance and a dyno tune on 101 octane. I'd like to do something sooner, but this time of the year is just too busy...
*EDIT*: Alright well, couldn't resist...I signed up for Buttonwillow on the weekend of 12/17! |

Went in for some preventive maintenance yesterday. My clutch hose was kinked and at risk of fraying, so we replaced it with a new stainless steel braided line. |
|
Here's the video from Buttonwillow (12/17). No record lap time...I'm going to have to rebuild my skills, and cut that yaw sensor wire!
Video from MRLS coming soon! |
|
awesome video dude!
|
The car is up for sale. Asking for $18,000 -- it's in great condition and hopefully will go to someone who will continue to campaign it on the track!
I just picked up a 2017 Z06: http://i.imgur.com/AKuBDUu.jpg |
What a beauty, I have been wondering why you have been so silent! Have you had her on the track yet?
