Stopped posting for sometime, I think 3 hard weeks, so finished the roll cage, I had to travel to Paris for 4 days and then returned to install the dashboard and finish all the remaining job to get the car in a working condition for the race, my target was to check if I have any technical requirement missing and to get the chance to have a shake down for the car.
The car had an exhaust leak, before the cats, which got wrong reading for the o2 sensors, so I think it was pulling a lot of timing, my car was maybe the slowest out there :rofl2: and right axle boot broke, after inspection, it appears the ball joint nut snapped and with small bumps and play broke it. Made a quick fix, and entered first race to just see if there is more problems, I think I have over cooled the engine as it barely reach 92-93 while racing. The suspension setup was very safe, understeer and then turns with throttle, I didn't have the time to get alignment, I think it will make the car turns harder. Didn't finish the race, hopefully next race it will be ready and finish both races. I made a list for what to buy now, I will start with new full exhaust, front lower arm, high hp rated axles, and new bolts/nuts for the car. |
Once that you got to take it out on track. Its gonna be a bit trial and error probably for the first 2-3 times, but it should be fine after that! Enjoy!

I am planning to get Hybrid Racing 3.5" CAI, 70mm TB, RRC IM, and tune. I already have big bore header and 3" catback on order from a shop called Solid Fabrications. |

Yeah, got the Z on track again, didn't video record laps, it was more of a track taxi :rofl2: but I got some really nice photos, I tried a minor tweak to my usual alignment and I like it, front camber -2.94 with as much caster as I can get, 0.08 front toe out, rear -1.83 camber and 0.15 rear toe in. One of the people who got a ride with me, said I didn't thought a Nissan would have that much grip :shakes head:

The saying is...the more caster the faster you will be! Depending on camber mine is runs between 6 and 8. I use less caster the more camber I run and toe.
|
I believe my caster at 5.5-6, this is the max, maybe because I am not that low, as I understand, more caster means more camber gain when you turn, it is very beneficial if you want a street/track car.

I think my height is the limiting here, as MCA adviced me to return oem swaybars, so I had a little rubbing when I lowered the fronts, I will need to roll my fenders, also, I am planning to go for lower tires next time and get the car lower. I have two sets to finish right now, 275/40/18 sur4g and 285/30/18 r1s, after they are done, I am planning on trying 295/35/18 yoko a052, a lot of positive reviews about them.
I didn't know if I reported it, but I have some issues with my tranny, a little hard to get gears in and 5th grinds, the clutch engagement point isn't as smooth as it was, I think after two weeks I will have some time to get the transmission down and check clutch/pressure plate, if everything looked fine, I think I will be due for a new synchros or full tranny. It is still drivable but I need to be easy when shifting. |

Sounds like your synchros are starting to go. I got to start saving for a tranny just in case! Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |
Did an Autocross event today, my best run here
|
The schedule is very tight for my RSX, before two weeks I missed a round, this weekend there was a round that I participated in, but still I have alignment issue and limp mode, my fastest lap was 2:37, hopefully I will sort out the power issue this week, but I am not looking into tuning until I can get a trackday to do the logs.
Here is my fastest My car speed was third from last, but I finished 10th from 20 participants in both races. I hope for improvements in next race. |
After two years of hard use with OS Giken HTR2CD, decided it is time to go back to single plate clutch, ordered Zspeed Stage 3 with CMAK upgrade to v2.
OS experience was fantastic in track, good in street until you reach a traffic jam, it heats and starts to be an on off engagement, I wouldn't blame the kit as I got the second most aggressive model in their lineup :rofl2: recently, the gear changes started to be hard, the feel is more like the clutch isn't disengaging quickly, and 5th grinds unless I go very very slowly in it. So, it is a great time to get the transmission down for inspection on syncros and change the clutch. Also, I plan to use the car in street more often, I choose a little aggressive kit, but it should be a lot better than OS in street and holds track abuse. Waiting for it, it should shows up within two weeks. After that I plan on doing some adjustment for autox, like getting my sway bars back on the car, changing my sur4g to r1s and getting the car lower (it should go pretty low with 285/30/18) with more aggressive alignment  as my current one isn't aggressive :rofl2: Did one Autocross event with the Z, unfortunately didn't get my fastest run recorded, this was an experiment to use 1st gear in the narrow layout, which was slower than my fastest by more than a second. Also, participated in another race with my rsx, only mod was to change the exhaust and manifold, which didn't get the check engine off for secondary O2 sensor, and I get rear bushes installed and new bolts for camber and toe. Had a better alignment Front -3 camber 0.08 toe out (3 caster which isn't adjustable) Rear -1.8 camber 0 toe. It rotates better now but still understeers, but this time felt the lack of power, so kpro4 is on top of my list. I have my plans set for now, I will get my boltons completed, which I already mentioned before, IM, CAI, 70mm TB, and tune. For suspension, I will try to get new front top mounts to increase caster, I may reduce rear camber a little, also, I may get a strut braces for rear side, which should help the car to rotate better. |

The new clutch and flywheel from Zspeed, Super Street kit with Cmak v2 conversion to the one I have already. Kudos to Joe for the great service and communication.

You never get a "sticky" clutch pedal on track? I had this twice on the Nurburgring now
Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk |
Didn't have any issue with sticky clutch, I have SS line, rjm HD CMC, rjm pedal, cmak, and OS htr2cd. I use Castrol srf for fluid. But I think number of times I shift in a session are less than one lap at the ring ;) 6 upshifts, 5 downshifts per lap, 11 total (12 if we counted 4th-3rd at first turn).
I felt a slippage with the clutch last time I drove it, so hopefully my transmission is fine. I think these little kilometers were very hard (nearly full time trackdays, autocrossing) lots of shifting and launching. If I went back to before the clutch upgrade, I had two oem csc failed, one after I bought the car (used so maybe first owner), fixed on warranty, the other after like 25k kms, mixed street and track use, but didn't get sticky clutch as I had ss lines and dot 4 fluid as my first mod. |
So after Clutch install, the clutch has benn much easier to drive on, it hold power well, but pedal efforts still higher than what I imagined it will be. I feel the flywheel is light on higher rpms, but a little heavy on low rpms, I would loved if I have that light feel everywhere. Anyway, my z has became a lot more friendly in traffic. Unfortunately, it looks my synchros are bad, the grind in 5th didn't go.

Too bad, hope you can find a good used gearbox locally for not too much.

My race car update, lots of work with it, full bolton with hondata, and rear big swaybar, I found vtec wasn't working :rofl2: and because of all the noise inside the car, I wasn't suspecting it, anyway, after all the work, my car is now the fastest car in the straight, still understeers which held the car back in turns, started in 9th, climbed until 6th, until an angry guy stopped the race. I need to work on my racing lines and fix some issues for next season.
|
lol were those guys about to throw down right there on the track? How stupid can you be? :shakes head:
|
The red EG has a clutch failure, but the swift driver was a crazy case, he got involved in a car contact and snapped and stopped in the middle of the track. He got suspended from racing locally and internationally (if he ever tried to do it).

You need to do something with that floppy gauge. :icon14:

I know I know, I wanted to do them, but focused on other issues, now season is finished, I can work on it without pressure. |
Finally all caught up! Thanks to this thread, my stress on a 275/40/18 tire is gone.

Happy to hear that, trying to help a little as I got a lot of help from the community here.
No new updates but this in one of the ways I spend quarantine time :yum: |

I agree, they help, but when you remove them, you start learning the track again, as most people would be very focused on them and choose their braking points depending on them (and I am not an exception), I think you can learn the track faster without them in the first place, but at least with them you know where the turn is going with the narrower view.
|
So weather isn't perfect but events are starting again. We had an Autox/sprint event, where I got third place, this is my fastest run.
|
Another day, another event, another 3rd place, the same EvoX and STI ahead of me, but our Autocross becoming more like alleys cross :rofl2:

I don't post a lot lately, and there is no real work on the Z, but my DD will be sold soon, my Jeep served me well for over 7 years, got a new daily, somehow stealthy, have a lot of potentials, but I want to resist this urge to mod :rofl2:
http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1606217066 TTS in Daytona Gray, Red interior, and optional 20". Got a good deal on it, I will not track it, but who knows how long I will resist the urge, but planning on autocrossing it, will be nice to compare the Z with it there. |
Good luck on resisting the urge to modify. Let me help you with that as there is a pretty good plug and play flash tune that increase performance significantly. I haven't checked their web site but RT Tuning sells it.

Noooo please nooooo :rofl2: My friend has APR dealership here in Qatar, and he is not helping at all, 360 with only tune, around 400hp with exhaust, and around 500hp with turbo upgrade, and on top of that they have a discounted price right now.
But I am resisting, two project cars is enough  |

:rofl2::rofl2:
First time at Autocross (last round) with the TTS, and as usual my 370z was present. They were in different classes, I think it would be a drag to explain all the classes, but we have 3 categories depends on engine displacement, and each one has production and open class, production means stock car with the only allowed mods are (exhaust, intake, tune, lowering springs and semi-slicks), anything more means open. TTS was in production, Z was open, both under 2500-3700cc NA or 1600-2500cc FI, such broad categories but cannot change them. The Z finished 4th :roflpuke2:, the track was dusty and my R1S are old and had many heat cycles, so didn't help me to put my power down, and I was always on part-throttle to not spin the wheels and go doooriftooooo mode, and I was against evos and sti my best run was 54.3, but I don't know where are the cones that has been counted as penalty Official fastest 54.8 Here is where it get interesting, my TTS did 55 flat, but didn't manage to top the class, there was a 718 Boxster (not sure if it is S or normal) that was faster  I was 2nd but satisfied nonetheless, as I entered on old PS4S which was on the car when I bought it. anyway, I have plans for it, I will get Carbotech AX6 pads, 18 wheels with re71r or a052, tune, and top mounts (front for camber, will ask if it is allowed in the class, the non-adjustable type) if not, I may get lowering springs. Hopefully it can challenge for top place next season. As my Z, I think I need to open the gearbox, refresh it, and then get new tire set for it, I may try A052 on it this time, with a higher tire profile, they may grip better or equally on dusty surfaces, and they will not heat cycle like slicks (as I want to get a full season out of them), my power isn't bad, but I struggle to get it down sometimes so higher tire profile could help, or maybe I need to get less camber at the rear, mmmmmmm, I made it around -2.2 rear, it gives a very progressive and controllable slide, or maybe I need to remove rear swaybar, I got lazy to try to de-attach it in one round at least to try how it change. |

Looks like this season my Z will get a rest until I open the transmission or I get a built one, as far as tracks and autocross. I will use my racecar in tracks and the TT for autocross for the time being.
Aaaaaand, I said I will resist upgrades :ughdance: My TT got new top mounts from Superpro, it promises a -1.3 camber increase, I got -2.1 on passenger side and -1.6 on driver side. Also, got from Mike@TPM 18 wheels and yoko A052 tires. Finally, it got tuned with APR stage 1, it makes 360hp now  I attached my performance difference. |
LOL, and so it begins!
