Skyline Drive - November 2nd

That's right! The leaves are turning along with the weather. I'd like to get one last cruise in before hibernating for the winter.

Plan is to meet up Sunday, November 2nd at 10am at the Afton Mountain Convenience Store at the southern end of the Skyline Drive just west of Waynesboro/Fishersville area off I-64.

Depart at 10:30 sharp!

Please don't be the late one calling asking everyone to hang back another 15 minutes. Some of us have a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive home after the cruise. Please show respect and be on time. If you are late, catch up.

We will stop for pictures along the way a few times when it is ideal. I will have four handheld radios that I will distribute accordingly. I see no reason for anyone to get lost but if someone in the back needs to stop for any reason then I'd like to be able to get the entire group off the road together. There is no official number as to how many will show up at this time. But if you do plan on attending, please post your intentions. If you post, more will come.

We will drive the entire length and end at Front Royal where we will stop for lunch/dinner. I've tentatively decided on Joe's Steakhouse as they have damn near everything that everyone could want. No child goes hungry! But ultimately the group will decide where to go. The drive and dinner should conclude no later than 5pm.

Rain date- Nov. 9th If the forecast is horrible as of Friday afternoon before the cruise and there are serious calls for heavy rain we will push to the following week. If the forecast is mostly in our favor and even if there is a chance of rain it will go as planned. It's not a high-speed cruise so it should be of no consequence. But pray for sun! It worked for the "bridges" cruise!

As a side note. I will be there early on Saturday checking out the surrounding area and wineries and such. If anyone wishes to meet up, let me know.

I've been in the works on planning this for sometime but never this one. I'm bringing the GoPro and my camera. Might even get a wide-angle lens just for the trip to get some good shots. I do plan the majority of the cruises in the VB area so definitely not my first.

I'll be on my way to sema that weekend so one wish has already come true. Two is just plain greedy

Nice! I'm looking forward to it!

Camera is the Sony NEX-5T. I only have the standard lens that comes with it and the 55-210mm lens. I need a good 50mm prime lens. I'd like the CZ 55mm 1.8f lens but we'll see about that. At least not before the cruise. :shakes head:

Just an FYI.... Skyline is going to be absolutely crowded with tourists and traffic looking at the landscape. Always is this time of year, although not sure how it'll be on the southern side.

Yup. I was very much aware of that. It'll be a slow-going cruise for sure. But that's what we're all going for as well.

Weather is still looking perfect for sunday! Sunny and 45 degrees! Anyone else wish to join us? I have several people from the beach area heading up.

Last update before the weekend. I know there aren't any takers here but just in case anyone changes their mind. Forecast shows 42 as the high, no rain and 17mph winds. Looks like it'll be a fantastic fall day! Hope some of you can make it!
