Hey MAZOC!

This will be our 3rd year running this cruise as a club, and my first year taking lead. Unfortunately the original creator got shipped away for military duties. As much as I want to keep this a event private, you guys will be the only other club to get a special personal invitation, since I know a lot of you guys like to drive :driving:

What is the Fall "Bridges" Cruise:
  • Originally routed by an NGC member. A lot of these backroads are local to his house (must be nice!)
  • The cruise is designed to cover a lot of local historic bridges (covered, opened, stone arch, etc)
  • The cruise essentially circles around Frederick, MD. Some routes overlap the "GTR Cruise" and we will also be passing by the park where you guys had your Summer BBQ

Meet up spot:
Urbana Park and Ride South Lot, off of 270 this is exit 26 going onto rt 80, Fingerboard Rd. There is a lot on each side of road, the one we will be meeting in is the bigger lot of the two

Schedule:
9:15 AM meet at park & ride
9:45 AM I will pass out the route and do a mini driver meeting
10:00 AM depart
2:00 PM debrief at BWW

This cruise is about 100 miles, it takes a few hours with all of the photo-op stops and our main break at WAWA

The route will be very similar to last years cruise, I will do a dry run and see if there are any roads we might want to add on

Things to consider:
- This IS a backroad cruise, if you are uncomfortable with pushing your car, ride with someone.
- If your car is due for maintenance, such as brakes or tires.. do not risk your life or any of ours by taking your car!!
- Highly recommend bringing a passenger/navigator. Some turns will sneak up on you fast, DO NOT depend on the person in front of you!
- Bring your 2 way radios, may or may not use them but will be nice to have
- Gas up! We will only stop once at a gas station halfway in.
- I can't promise the cruise is slam-friendly HOWEVER, I survived it last year and if I'm not mistaken we had a slammed g37 as well who was rather fearless

Current roll call with National G Club:

- Me: Subaru legacy gt
- Steve G: 370z
- Joe A: Kia Optima
- Dan E: 7th gen Max
- Kyle H: 7th gen Max
- Bobby: G35 sedan
- Shelton: TT 350z
- Gabe L: GT-R
- Clay S: 350z
- Chris L: Dodge Dart
- Lance D: G35 coupe
- Jesus O: Evo X
- Don P: G35 coupe
- Miguel: G37 coupe
- Sergei: TT G37 coupe
- Kevin R: G35 sedan
- Allan A: Q50

anddddd a whole bunch of maybes not added to that list!

Would love to make it, but got a wedding the night before... and yeah it's gonna get crazy.

RandyD 09-01-2014 07:58 AM

I think I'm in. - looking forward to it

nomodsjk 09-01-2014 08:45 AM

Man that's freaking awesome. It's the day after Z nationals so I'm not sure if I can make it but I live like 30 min away from Urbana so I'll try my best!

kayha12 09-14-2014 07:01 PM

So just went out and did a dry run today just to make sure the route is still good. Made some changes to some turns due to road closures and added a bunch of notes to certain roads! Was a blast hitting the cruise with Steve G and our friend Thomas

Here are the updates:

1) There was one road closing that was a quick and easy adjustment to the route
2) I also updated certain roads/turns to PWC (proceed with caution) some roads will end on a blind 1 way bridge, some have construction going on, etc etc. All noted, I will go through each one with you all during the drivers meeting, if you don't pay attention and rip your bumper off, don't blame me!
3) If your car is lower than the lowest point of my exhaus (which is really low!)t, then you probably shouldn't risk taking your car lol for the most part I only scraped my exhaust since it hangs so low, Steve kissed his bumper a few times but nothing serious
4) There is an Exxon at our premeet spot, gas up there and/or grab a snack. The cruise today, with only stopping at the Sheetz took about 3ish hours, with the club I expect it to go much longer with some of the photo op places.

I also decided I will go over these route notes during our driver meeting as well as these notes that I put together with Steve G. today. Which of course will be reviewed during the meeting as well!

• This IS NOT A RACE!!
• You WILL get split up – do not rely on the person in front of you to get you to where you need to go. All it takes is 1 person to take the wrong turn and the whole group gets lost. Fold up the paper, hold it against your steering wheel and follow along. Or have a navigator
• Buddy system – it can work but with so many stop signs and traffic lights, it’s tough to stay in a group. DO NOT LOSE SIGHT of the person behind you, the goal is, if you don’t lose them, and they don’t lose the person behind them, and so forth. It should be golden
• DO NOT CROSS the yellow lines!! Some of the roads we will be going on will seem like they’re 1 way but they aren’t, be courteous and most importantly stay very cautious and aware. Put effort into staying on your side of the road. NO PASSING at ALL!
• SLOW DOWN on blind hills, there will be some hills if you go fast enough you may catch air, there will also be some that end in an abrupt turn/stop sign
• On the longer straight a ways, no need to go 100+ on small backroads just to slam your brakes, this is a good opportunity to let your engine cool down, coast at 60-70, which is still 2x the limit but this isn’t a race, just cruise!
• Many 1 way bridges, be courteous, slow down way ahead of time
• DO NOT SPEED when we go through the parts of the town
• Stay close, but not too close. There will be instances where you may have to abruptly apply the brakes, I would advise not to tail gate who ever is in front of you!
• Keep your eyes peeled for the road signs! Do not miss your turn! If you feel like you’re on the road for too long (>3 miles) then you probably missed your turn!!
• Most importantly, have fun!!

kayha12 09-14-2014 07:03 PM

I also bumped the meet up time up 15 minutes, this gives the usual "always late" suspects a bigger cushion to meet up!

nomodsjk 09-14-2014 08:48 PM

I really hope I can make it I would love to do this with you guys

Asheth 09-14-2014 09:47 PM

I'm in barring anything weird happening! Would be nice to get some more Z's out there wink wink

You can put me down this is Walter btw. 370z BO(bolt-ons)

Tigger 09-15-2014 12:07 AM

Put me down.

jlw2546 09-15-2014 10:30 AM

I will try to make it. Sounds like fun. Its a ways away, but if the weather is nice I'm always up for a fun Sunday morning drive.

Tigger 09-18-2014 04:22 PM

Is it the 12th yet? I can't freakin wait!

jlw2546 10-06-2014 09:47 AM

Is this cruise still a go? Thread has been quiet. Weather looks ify. 30% chance of rain as of now. But this is the mid atlantic and the weather changes hourly.

kayha12 10-06-2014 09:57 AM

Still a go!

Tigger 10-06-2014 12:30 PM

Good. I booked my hotel an hour ago.

jlw2546 10-06-2014 02:06 PM

Great. Lets all do an anti rain dance. :happydance:

I see 40% chance of AM showers. Will this push to the right or will this go off regardless of rain? If I don't care either way. I'll hammer down in the rain.

kayha12 10-07-2014 07:04 PM

Hey guys, praying it doesn't rain however the current forecast isn't in our favor. I AM NOT risking this cruise with wet roads or during any kind of rain, it is not worth it, period. I am going to put Sunday 11/2 as the current rain date. Lets hope the forecast changes in these next few days!!

Thanks for the clarification. Here's to hoping!

jlw2546 10-07-2014 10:27 PM

Well. Just in case. I just booked a bed and breakfast for tomorrow night off the blue ridge parkway for me and the wife. There will be some curves in my immediate future. In need of a quick get a way.

nomodsjk 10-07-2014 11:24 PM

If it does rain I can make the November 2nd date if not I'll be on my way home from nationals.

Tigger 10-08-2014 10:27 AM

I see a 60% chance of rain on sunday now. Seems to be ticking higher. I'll cancel my hotel reservations friday morning if it continues or it is officially cancelled.

FPenvy 10-08-2014 10:37 AM

Khoi! i'm hurt. i didnt even get a text or anything about this lol

eastwest2300 10-08-2014 12:09 PM

You fellas have fun.

MightyBobo 10-08-2014 01:57 PM

A cruise I do hear? Let me talk with the misses...

Tigger 10-08-2014 07:36 PM

Seriously, why do you all have such crappy weather there? Looks dismal all weekend. :/ Still hoping though! :)

jlw2546 10-09-2014 06:15 PM

They say off and on showers all weekend. My car has bugs all over the front from my day trip to blue ridge so I'm still good if its on. A brief shower will actually help. Yes Dee, its dirty. Bugs and road dust. Lol.

Tigger 10-10-2014 06:21 AM

Still see chances of rain increasing from sunday morning around 8am and on. If I don't see an official decision by 5pm today i'm just going to cancel my reservation (has to be 24 hours) and be on standby in case y'all still decide to go.

jlw2546 10-10-2014 06:46 AM

The weather app on my hand held super computer has Sunday looking a lot better now. Definitely won't be a wash out but may have a shower. Down to 30% chance now and the sun may actually come out. That is for Frederick

kayha12 10-10-2014 06:56 AM

Weather update:

Says 60% chance rain AM Showers for Saturday, 0% chance for Sunday. This is weather.com. Will keep track of this hourly!! Lets hope for the best.

Guys I would hate to cancel it on Saturday and it be sunny and dry on Sunday. If there is a cancellation it will be made early Sunday morning so please keep posted on this thread!!

Tigger 10-10-2014 10:46 AM

If i come up tomorrow night and the rain washes us out, someone is cooking me breakfast. :icon17:

Let's hope no one has to cook me breakfast. I'm a tough one to please. :p

b1adesofcha0s 10-10-2014 01:21 PM

Was so ready to go to this until I found out it was on a Sunday :(

jlw2546 10-10-2014 04:05 PM

:tup:Sunday is looking promising.

Tigger 10-10-2014 05:09 PM

i'm past the point of no return for my hotel reservation so i guess i'm driving up regardless. C'mon, Sunday!!!!

Khoi... I like egg sandwiches on sourdough for breakfast. Use a fragrant olive oil please. And make the eggs mostly runny. Just trying to prepare you.

Toodles!

Unless it decides to pour over night, this looks like a GO. I was driving around today and the roads seem to be drying up, slowly since it's not that warm out and there's no sun. Lets hope for completely dry roads in the morning!
