Suggestions: New Maryland Meet Locations

All,

Our current Columbia Crossing meeting location is pretty terrible. The Target parking lot is busy as heck and the mini Starbucks inside the store is quite lame. It's time to find a new place to meet in Maryland and at the meet today we decided it'd be best to put a number of locations up for a vote. So, in this thread, please suggest a new Maryland meeting location so it can be included in a vote.

All proposed locations should meet the following guidelines:

- Standalone Starbucks located within walking distance from meet area (a la Fairfax)
- Parking lot should have ample space to host us without being crowded (a la Fairfax)

Basically, we are looking for a new location that is as much like Fairfax as possible.

So, post your suggested location with a brief description on the area and why you think it'd be a suitable replacement. After a few days or so I'll create a poll and we can put it to a vote.

I would say my bedroom, but there's no starbucks within walking distance.

b1adesofcha0s 11-30-2013 02:22 PM

I'll throw this out there, the Starbucks across the street from Arundel Mills mall. Parking lot is decent and I've seen car meets being held there before (those are at night though). It's only 10 mins from our current location and conveniently right across from the mall/casino. Also plenty of food choices nearby both inside and outside of the mall.

I like that location. Looks like plenty of space and lots of nearby lunch options.

I'll do some scouting tomorrow and take some pictures. The Rockville NGC meet-up is walking distance from a Hooters and multiple other restaurants.

Bethesda probably isn't a great idea because there's just no room plus there's a high-end cars and coffee near the farmer's market already.

There's a great place in Germantown right next to a starbucks with a huge empty parking lot but no one wants to go to Germantown.

ZCarMan 11-30-2013 03:37 PM

I'll meet up anywhere so I'm flexible.

dmhenderson 11-30-2013 04:30 PM

You have to find a specific location that has a starbucks and enough room for a meet.

There's a panera, starbucks, chick fil a, or bob evans for brkfst, a fantastic liquor store there, and a kohls

Downside: it's laurel

But isn't Laurel a "nuclear free zone"? I would feel very safe there. :bowrofl:

eastwest2300 11-30-2013 06:05 PM

Cherry Hill Rd and Baltimore Ave in College Park. There is a large Starbucks there and numerous restaurants close bye.

Although you will have to keep your stuff locked up. It is PG County.

Since we can't carry into MD I have appointed you as MAZOC MD security detail. :tiphat::p

Fallsgrove | Starbucks Coffee Company

This would be my choice. Falls Grove Shopping center has plenty of room. Restaurants within close walking distance:

-Starbucks. As an added bonus, Matthew Lesko (the guy who used to do infomercials with the crazy question mark suits) hangs out there. Yes, he wears question mark suits out in public. His car is also covered in question marks.

-Taipei Tokyo sushi
Taipei Tokyo

-Cheeburger Cheeburger (hundreds of milkshake/malt flavors, enormous greasy awesome burgers). Seriously, this place is ridiculous. You want a burger with a giant stack of bacon on it? Done:
Cheeburger Cheeburger | All Natural Angus Burger Restaurant

-Panera

-Chipotle

-Mama Lucia
Mamma Lucia Restaurant

-Krispy Kreme Donuts

-Smoothie King

-Wing Stop & Jerry's if for some reason we wanted to slum it

All of these places in one shopping center. I270 access less than a mile away and even a convenient hospital across the street. One of the very first exits off of 270 after Bethesda.

m4a1mustang 11-30-2013 07:14 PM

Matthew Lesko? Holy ****. I might just have to use my powers to declare that the winner right now. :bowrofl:

He seriously sits at a table with his laptop wearing one of his crazy technicolor question mark suits and waits for people to approach him.

I'll drive over there tomorrow morning and take some pictures of the area. It's in a very nice/safe area.

m4a1mustang 11-30-2013 07:17 PM

MAZOC Group Photo with Matthew Lesko would be sick.

dmhenderson 11-30-2013 07:23 PM

~~We can all get GOVERNMENT GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTS~~

dmhenderson 11-30-2013 07:26 PM

Anyway, we'd park between the Krispy Kreme and Starbucks so you could pick your poison.

I totally agree, and a really nice spot for other imports in the area.

hi shado happy holidays :hello:

MyKindaGuise 11-30-2013 11:14 PM

Any place closed to PA lines has my vote. Last time I came down there was only 3 people..So a shorter drive would certainly be nicer.

Rockville would be closer to you I think. Straight shot down 81 to 270. Dunno though, you'd have to mapquest it.
We had a pretty good crowd today at Columbia including someone from Delaware believe it or not.

eastwest2300 12-01-2013 07:41 AM

I know how it feels to be the only one show up to a columbia meet, it happened a few weeks back.. it happens i guess.. whatever.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 08:19 AM

Cleaned up some the thread a bit. Keep the suggestions coming!

chieuxuan 12-01-2013 09:40 AM

Germantown as DM suggested. It's closer for the Va folks and it's a nice ride for B'more people too

Actually my vote is for Rockville. Closer for VA people, more accessible to PA people, someone central for MD people. The problem would be the folks coming from the north side of the beltway around College Park. Maybe we could alternate? I dunno.

Germantown starbucks has a big empty parking lot area but the restaurant choices suck. You only have Applebees and Agro Dolce (really cool place) within walking distance.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 11:03 AM

Rockville is cool for me but I wouldn't worry too much about the VA people. We need an accessible location for the Marylanders.

It would even be an option to have alternating MD locations... for example Rockville and Bowie. Both are good locations. Something to think about.

chieuxuan 12-01-2013 11:16 AM

Rockville is cool, but that parking lot is way too busy, maybe it is not at the hour that we meet, I dunno 'cause I've never been there at 10:30.

m4a1mustang 12-01-2013 11:17 AM

Whatever we do we will probably end up giving certain locations trial runs and make sure they work for us.
