Wine Trip (June 29th 2013)

I'm in, tentatively, +1. Need to double check our plans for that weekend.

ZCarMan 06-17-2013 11:07 AM

I'll check with Pat when she gets home but I'd think we are in.

ZCarMan 06-17-2013 11:49 AM

Randy, which ones do you have in mind for this time?

I'm thinking Northern Loudoun County.

maybe a cruize up from the FFX meeting spot up snickersville tpk, then hit North Gate, Hillsborough and end up at Sunset Hills.

Wine Trip (June 29th 2013)

New thread with correct title...

Z Stig 06-18-2013 07:27 AM

Count me in with a + 1. I just joined Sunset Hills this past weekend. Looking forward to ending up there. Thanks Randy!

eastwest2300 06-18-2013 07:44 AM

Have fun fellas.

aniceh 06-19-2013 08:32 AM

I'm in!

MightyBobo 06-20-2013 11:12 AM

Consulting with the significant other. In for the sub.

Z Stig 06-21-2013 10:38 AM

Randy,

Do you have the start/end times for this planned out yet?

MightyBobo 06-21-2013 11:07 AM

Can't go to this, either. Fiancee is officially working.

Sent from my Galaxy S3

sixpax 06-21-2013 11:12 AM

This is tempting, but I would have to bring a roll-back along in order to load me up for the trek home.

Been there, done that...thanks Randy! Actually it wasn't before noon but close. Had a blast but man did I pay for it the next day! :bowrofl:

Thanks Randy.

So I take it that we meet at the FFX meet location at 12:00? Plan on leaving Sunset Hills before 6:00? Not specifying, just trying to confirm. Since you are hosting, and are the lead wine expert in our group, you obviously get to set the time.

Our neighborhood July 4th celebration is that day, including fireworks, so I wanted to make sure I make it home in time for that. I may have to break away from the group before 6:00. I'll know better mid week. Looking forward to visiting the first two wineries, as I have not been to those yet.

aniceh 06-21-2013 01:34 PM

I visited the websites for the three wineries mentioned to get an idea of what they are like, and found that all had special requirements for group tastings:

Hillsborough - Reservations are required for groups of 6 or more people. Groups of 10 or more tasters requires a credit card to hold the reservation. Last group tasting reservation is 3pm on Saturday's.

North Gate - Groups (of 8 to 20 guests) are welcome at North Gate during regular business hours. Reservations are required at least two days in advance by phone or by email to guarantee accommodations.

Sunset Hills - Reservations are required for groups larger than 8. Large group tastings are available Monday-Friday between Noon - 4pm. All groups eight or larger must be scheduled in advance and unfortunately, we can not accommodate group tastings on Saturday and Sunday.

It looks like there will be ten of us (Chris will be coming with me, but I don't think he will be tasting) and we meet the definition of a "large group" for all the facilities. I haven't visited them so I don't know how strict they will be with this policy. What are your thoughts, Randy?

m4a1mustang 06-21-2013 02:11 PM

Looking like I might be out. Have something coming up for next Sat.

RandyD 06-21-2013 03:01 PM

let's shoot for 'leaving' the FFX location at 12 - it takes about 45 min to an hour to get to the first place

RandyD 06-21-2013 03:02 PM

plus Aniceh - i am a member of 2 of these.. we should be just fine :)

m4a1mustang 06-21-2013 03:09 PM

I'm still tentative. :icon17:

RandyD 06-21-2013 03:24 PM

hope it works out :)

Translation - I drink a lot so I have a lot of pull with these establishments.

Will discuss more tomorrow at the "warm up wine sampling...." (hadn't been paying attention - hopefully I didn't distract from this great event)....:icon17:

Count us (Deb & myself) as a "tentative" in - we've got "other" events on both bookend days (28th & 30th, but thinkin we SHOULD be able to squeeze in a wine tasting......:icon17:

Gotta start paying "more better" attention to the forum......

We're in (since we missed today)

m4a1mustang 06-24-2013 08:39 AM

Ok, I'm in, but Dana is not. She's going on a cruise with her ST club.

I am going to be at PTuning with Ron on Saturday morning since I'm buying his base wheels (for winter). I should be able to make it to FFX by noon, however if I can't I'll just meet you all at the first stop.

SECKS Z 06-25-2013 09:18 AM

I'm in for this!

dmhenderson 06-25-2013 09:31 AM

Weather is looking bad for Sat :/

Oh no!! How does it look for Sunday? Is that out?

m4a1mustang 06-25-2013 09:41 AM

Saturday doesn't look too bad. A little rain possible with a thunderstorm.

MightyBobo 06-25-2013 09:43 AM

It's wine tasting - you'll be indoors anyway, who cares :-p

m4a1mustang 06-25-2013 11:35 AM

Do we have a set in stone start meet time and location?

Randy said the regular FFX meet location departing at 12:00. This is a wine "Trip" not "Cruize", so it will take about 45 minutes to get to the first winery. ;)

m4a1mustang 06-25-2013 11:48 AM

Hopefully that can be added to the OP.

Technically I can do it, but I feel dirty getting inside someones posts when I don't have to. :|

First vineyard would be good to know, too, in case I have to meet you guys there if my date with Ron and PTuning takes longer than expected.

In my defense, I try to manage all the meats as best as I can, so if the details aren't presented in one spot I don't always remember them.

I get it. I don't expect you to remember EVERYTHING MAZOC. I did not mean anything by quoting Randy's note, it was just quicker than retyping. I am a slow typer. Plus I remembered the last vineyard (because I am a member), but the first two I have not visited yet, so I had to look back in the thread to give you an answer anyway.
