I was going to type that I thought when you attended the Professor AK's class (with Trips as assistant professor) "Master of the MAZOC Universe", that you would have received the implant to know everything MAZOC. But I chose to take the high road and be nice.

Now that I learned that you were being sarcastic ... :gtfo2:

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control we won't be able to make the winery trip. If something changes we'll show up, otherwise we'll just have to catch the next one.

We are in the same boat as Jon, work and ZBB is currently killing me. Enjoy and we will definitely be there for the next one.

Thanks Randy.

m4a1mustang 06-27-2013 02:36 PM

Slight chance I may be out for Saturday. I'll know tomorrow.

I am hoping to crack open a bottle of Sandy's Patio this Saturday night. :tiphat:

dmhenderson 06-27-2013 03:57 PM

We're definitely still coming barring acts of god and/or police.

We put down a bottle of the Patio Red night before last. It was very tasty.

I wish I had purchased a few more bottles of the Patio Red. That was light and tasty. I still have the Loxley Red Reserve awaiting a good grilled steak.

m4a1mustang 06-28-2013 01:22 PM

Unfortunately I am out for the wine trip tomorrow.

dmhenderson 06-28-2013 01:39 PM

Who all is still going?

RandyD 06-28-2013 02:03 PM

i am :)

Z Stig 06-28-2013 02:12 PM

Kathy and I are planning on coming, but we would be fine postponing if that is what the group decides. I see a lot of drops from the lightweights ;)...

Know what you mean Michael, we saw a couple lightweight drops last week :icon17:

dmhenderson 06-28-2013 04:01 PM

Benita and I are coming still. Actually meant to ask, are there opportunities to eat along this tour or do we need to eat beforehand

Should I plan for this? Randy, what's up? Ill be in Middleburg on Sunday morning horseback riding anyway so I'm down for a plan B option as well.

Same with me and Chris. If it's still on, we're still in; if we've had too much attrition, we can reschedule.

I figured on bringing a couple of baguettes, maybe some cheeses and hummus, depending on what people like.

dmhenderson 06-28-2013 08:07 PM

So we need to know tonight and not tomorrow morning. I am planning on waking up at the crack of dawn to detail the car and need to know now whether I can stay up and watch a movie or need to go to bed.

We're not trying to be jerks but I am ~required~ to plan the weekend if there are car things going on so I have to force the issue.

Roadster4Us 06-28-2013 08:16 PM

Randy is as reliable as they come. Once he plans something it's a done deal. I definitely would plan on this being a go.

dmhenderson 06-28-2013 08:47 PM

Alright.

RandyD 06-29-2013 06:10 AM

yes - a go.

exactly what to bring on a wine trip is an art form.
fully prepared, you can bring a packed picnic basket with meats to grill and wine appropriate food - like aniceh suggested.

for today, probably I'll have just some simple stuff, like crackers and cheeze, some salami, and fruit perhaps.

the first winery offers chocolates to go with the wines - which i suggest, and they also have some cheese plate type stuff for sale. some days, although i don't think today, they will have a guest chef or food like a brick oven pizza.

stop 2 should be brief, no food required.

stop 3 will probably be where people are getting hungry, and they have a bigger selection of food for purchase. however, the bring your own basket thing is also great for this place.

Z Stig 06-29-2013 08:33 AM

I'll bring some roasted red pepper hummus, celery and pita chips.

dmhenderson 06-29-2013 08:34 AM

Sent the girlfriend to go pick up some cheese and salami or something while I wash the car. We're meeting at the normal fairfax meet location right?

Yes, that's where you guys are heading off from.

I flipping feel like I am Randy's secretary or something.

He better get me something nice on Secretary's day. :yum:

aniceh 06-29-2013 09:54 AM

We picked up two baguettes, a couple of soft cheeses and some plain hummus, and we're en route to FFX now. Barring heavy traffic we should be there around 11:30.

ZCarMan 06-29-2013 05:37 PM

So, how was it?

And hopefully some pics. :tiphat:

dmhenderson 06-29-2013 05:45 PM

I didn't take any pictures but I'm sure some people did. 2/3 of the vineyards had really good wine. I really liked the first one and may join as a "member".

The 2nd vineyard had a really fantastic view but the wine was....not good.

The 3rd had good wine and a party atmosphere with music and frozen sangria. We stayed there the rest of the afternoon. We had a great time.

ZCarMan 06-29-2013 05:46 PM

Thats great! Randy does a good job of coordinating the wine tasting. The roads may be crap but he has no control over that, but in the end its a nice way to spend a day with acquaintances. If you happen to find a decent wine or two thats gravy.

dmhenderson 06-29-2013 05:52 PM

The roads were fine except the roads in/out of the vineyards themselves - we just drove slowly over the gravel. No worries. Car needs another de-bugging and bath but other than that no worse for wear. Good group of people. We both genuinely had fun.

Great to hear. I feel lucky to have Randy in our group. Great guy and always willing to set some unique trips up for us.

Hopefully we can do some more of these wine trips, they are probably our favorites. Would have gone today if I hadn't needed to go into work.

I am curious if Chris found any wines he liked :icon17:

I'm going to guess that stop 2 was Hillsborough? That is where I proposed lol

You are correct.
North something had really fantastic wine. Considering "joining" that one.

Hillsborough was beautiful...leave it at that.

Sunset whatever was sort of the complete package. By far the coolest venue but I didn't like their wines as much as #1. They had one I really loved though.

Ended up taking home 3 bottles.

Hillsborough is gorgeous, and the only reason I chose it. Yeah, the wine wasn't up my alley there, nor my fiancee's haha.

Ill have to hit the North place, sometime.
