Glad he's safe, and it's too bad they didn't..?? :wtf:

But they are expensive as fuuuu to replace, so the fact they didn't is somewhat a good thing.. :ugh2:

Except that the car is pretty clearly totaled so I doubt it matters.

With the airbags not going off, sometimes insurance companies make it more difficult to say "totaled"

dmhenderson 05-11-2013 10:40 PM

if damage to car = more than 50% of the value of the vehicle, then totaled. Airbags or no.

The airbag sensor is behind the radiator. It doesn't even look like the rad support is deformed. Had the airbag deployed it probably would've caused more harm then good. Sucks about the car though...But I doubt it would be a write off.

Looking at the pics indicated that the pole contact was offset enough that it probably did not exert enough force in the middle of the bumper to set off the airbag deploy sensor. If the insurance company chooses to repair the car, I would take it to a Nissan shop and have them run a full electrical (including airbag sensors, if possible) before officially accepting the car. Hopefully the insurance she has will do the right thing for your Uncle!

Not looking for a total loss as I just curious about them not being deployed

:iagree: as I told him the same thing that he might hit at an angle that was why it didn't trigger the sensor.

Man that is shitty. I'm always worried about people around me switching lanes. Scares the **** outta me sometimes. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to see a lot of Altima and Camry drivers flying around the highway switching lanes with no signals.:ugh2:

On another topic, I saw this and figured most of you would probably share the sentiment...

Did you turn the Contour on to capture the moment?

RandyD 05-12-2013 08:36 AM

no Contour.
it was literally a trap - i was being very unagressive - and as a matter of fact was stuck for many miles at 10 below the limit...

there is one section where the road opens up from 2 lanes to 4 lanes and begins a long downhill section - and changes right in the middle of that downslope from 55 to 45. (for no apparent reason other that to generate revenue)

anyway - when the road opened up, i went to an open lane to get out from behind the minivan that was blocking me for at least the previous mile at 5 under the limit, moved up parallel - then saw the cop turn on his lights...

the move up parallel part took less than a second, and i was no longer accelerating - but the cop caught it at 67 - and said i was in the 45 part of that stretch (which frankly is difficult to tell where the line is)

anyhow - i was over - and i got nailed...
