I was doing some reading on Fontana lake last night and am pretty excited. Looks like we might get some good LMB action. Smallies if we want to fish structure opening up to deep water.

My vote is we start with LMs & Smallies, but when that doesn't work we fish for what's biting...... Actually appears that there is a pretty good variety of fish in Fontana, more than I thought there'd be.

:iagree:

I was worried it'd be over-fished but it looks to be very healthy by all of the reports I read. There are so many branches and streams that we shouldn't have a problem finding some good LM spots. :excited:

You guys going to throw back whatever you catch or throw it on the grill?

Catch & release. We'll be targeting large mouth bass for the most part and they really don't taste very good at all. Not to mention it's a big to-do to keep them fresh and bring them back to clean them.

Sscottfitz 05-04-2015 05:24 PM

Personally, I'm a "catch & release" kind of angler, but I can't speak for Steve T. With the exception of the fish that don't TASTE like fish, I'm mostly a red meat & chicken kind of guy....... But they sure are fun to catch........

With sport fish like LMB and SMB I definitely take the catch & release approach. Not to mention around here most of the lakes and rivers are polluted to such a degree that you don't want to be eating what comes out of them anyway.

Now, if I know the water is clean then fish like bluegill and crappie taste really good!

Sscottfitz 05-04-2015 05:43 PM

YOU KNOW, you bring up a good point........ I've not really focused on what the crappie fishing on Fontana is going to be like next week, but I have some crappie lures, and what I don't have we can probably pick up at the marina....... Yeah, THAT'S THE TICKET!.....Yeah Of course someone has to clean'um....... I have the tools........:stirthepot:

I haven't gone crappy fishing in a long time but when they are on they are on! I know they really like structure and you can get a ton with a bobber and live minnows. :icon17:

b1adesofcha0s 05-04-2015 07:11 PM

Hard to believe something named crappy would taste good :icon17:

Crux 05-04-2015 07:26 PM

Panfish are laaaaaaaameeee. Now snakehead...

Too bad snakehead are borderline overfished here. Guys are bowfishing them at night. Apparently if you shine a light on them, they freeze like deer in headlights. Cheaters.
