Yup. I'm bored out of my mind at work right now. Searching for car parts at work is dangerous for my credit cards :|

I've been off since this past Thursday. Had so many PTO days left because I'm not used to having them lol. I'm sitting at the orthodontist's office right now though...

Time off?? What's that?? I have a 500hr leave balance and won't be able to take a vacation until June at the earliest.

On the plus side, at least I'm not French.

hah where I work, all salaried employees havewhat's called "DTO" (discretionary time off) meaning we don't get paid out leave if we quit or get let go. Basically what it means is you can take off as much as you like assuming your manager agrees. The problem is that no one will ever take off unless they're forced to and some people don't have cool bosses - thankfully mine is awesome.

The next 2 weeks will be a company-wide shutdown. All salaried employees get paid. Non-salaried employees have to use leave except on christmas, christmas eve and new year's day.

Honestly, I don't want to take time off, I have stuff to do.

We have a similar thing with illness/personal time bucket. Technically you can use it however you like but if you're out for more than two day in a row using the time from this bucket your boss "may" request to have a doctor's note. So there is a lot of leeway in there on how nice your boss is. I wonder what they'd do if you didn't produce a doctor's note if it was requested? I guess you could get fired.

I've always been a little jealous of companies that close down for the last two weeks of the year but it always seems that those companies mandate you use your own personal vacation time to supplement the close down. That I am not a fan of at all. I plan out my vacation time very meticulously and being single, the holidays are the last time of the year I need/want to take time off.

eastwest2300 12-24-2013 07:49 AM

we have use/lose, you can only carry over 240 hours each year, im about to take 10 days off starting friday, I gotta use it or I lose it.. a roadtrip in the honda 2000 to Florida? West VA?

I think so.

m4a1mustang 12-24-2013 08:23 AM

15 vacation days plus 6 sick days. You can carry 5 days over a year. Given how I work for a very small company, though, my boss pretty much doesn't give a **** when I take time off. This year I have definitely taken way more than 21 days.
