We've got folks of all ages and very limited drama. Most people also like to help out and contribute to making the group better so it works out nicely. The main focus for me is to guide it in the right direction and make sure that we don't become too structured and lose all of the fun.

Now, with growth comes the need for some structure, which is fine, but we'll never be like other clubs with mandatory meetings or strict membership requirements. It's pretty much "help out and don't be a douche" for MAZOC. :icon17:

That said, we should have some pretty exciting stuff rolling out here in the near future.

Can I stay in this club? I'm over 45 (but I think I am getting into modding) because of this forum and MAZOC...

Sounds perfect. Everything we ever did with the MDZC cost money and I never saw anything back out of it save a discount off dinner at our christmas party.

Again, I'm not knocking the club. They're just a different...demographic and do not do the same things we do. I think Jon was a member (briefly) as well.

Two good examples:
-They have explicit verbiage in their bylaws that forbids any sort of "unsafe driving" :3

-One of the crankier older members was checking out my car at Carlisle. I said, "Just about done with it, what do you think?"

His response?

"I DON'T LIKE IT. IT'S A GENERATIONAL THING"

dmhenderson 05-24-2013 11:45 AM

It's not even the age thing so much as the attitude. They're all very wealthy and modding is not a "thing". They just want an excuse to hang out and drink wine together on the weekends. It's totally not about the cars.

The club president has the sweetest garage I have ever seen. Wish I had taken pictures. It's just beautiful. Checkered floor, show pedestals, vintage signs/neon - whole 9. Absolutely breathtaking.

The guy owns by the way. He's a war vet, and not "shy" at all. He's funny as hell to drink with.
My response to him was "Welp, fair enough"

You know we have the same thing in Chicago. Where there is WCZC (windy city z club) and then Chicago Z and 370Z Car Club of Chicago.

WCZC has only three 370z owners  and about 100 vintage z/300ZX owners. I think only 5 cars are modded and they mostly do quiet dinners and lawn chair car shows. Average age in 40's/50's

ChicagoZ is mostly 350z/G's and has lots of HellaFlush/Hard Parkers/Track Cars/Fully modded/Spirited Cruises/etc. Average age in 20's/30's

370Z Car Club of Chicago is basically the same as Chicago Z with more driving, less hella flush, and obviously 90% 370Z. Average age in 20's

We've been lucky. Mostly 370Zs (since that is the core of the club) and all of the dbags that attempt to join get weeded out thanks to self-policing.

aniceh 05-24-2013 01:37 PM

I promise never to act my age. Can I stay in the club? :p

XwChriswX 05-24-2013 01:40 PM

That explains a lot.

Thankfully we have been mostly lucky with that. Can't say the same about ChicagoZ, but that is what you expect in a club that has 400 people.

Michael, I saw your PM. I'll get back to you later tonight.

dmhenderson 05-24-2013 02:35 PM

I really love this club because it's a nice blend of the HERRAFRUSH b-boi "fast and the furious" crowd and the sunday driver set.

Best way I can explain it would be a happy middleground between Performance & Style and the Import Kit National crowds. Was just complaining to my friend the other day that there's no "in between" on the show circuit.

You either have 45 degree camber, flamethrowers, ginormous turbos and groundfx or your car was a franklin mint model. No - seriously, there's a guy in the MDZC who owns the 240z that the franklin mint car was modeled after

m4a1mustang 05-24-2013 02:38 PM

I'm just here for the guys. :ugh2:

Anybody have any suggestions on something I should buy from AAM this weekend? I've got that $100 off labor coupon and 15% off parts this weekend. I feel like I've got everything done that I want to do to my car besides lowering it and that's not going to happen due to my driveway.

4r3s 05-24-2013 04:24 PM

How about sway bars? is the difference even noticeable?

Yes, I noticed a difference with sway bars even after I had swift springs. Helps reduce body roll. Definitely worth it IMO.

1. Will give you an improvement in driveability, ask Eighties Metal.
2. Even if you go on a Spirited cruise, you will want one. They make different strokes for different folks, 19, 25, and 34 rows. You could just do a 19 row.
3. The right choice.
4. Understandable, just browsing the website seeing what you could do.
5. Radiator hoses, they come in Red, Blue, and Black. Blue for the MR Blue.
