You wouldn't want to do that, anyway. Not on street tires (you'll just spin) and not on anything else or you'll just break the rear end.

I did a test launch in an empty parking lot at lunch at about 2000 and the car felt utterly out of control. The tires spun/smoked and the whole rear end spun sideways before I could jerk it back in line. One wheel left a big burnt rubber spot on the pavement - the other nothing. Weird.

One wheel peel... guess the VLSD didn't know what to do with that power

Stock diff ftw! The new one should fix this.

This came about because I went over to check out my new office since we're moving after the holiday break. The building and lot were completely empty so I figured "why not".

Should have given me a call, I could have brought the GoPro. :driving:

Nice. My office is moving next month.

dmhenderson 12-17-2013 02:35 PM

So I live about 1.5 miles from my job currently. With the office move, I will be about .5 miles from work. I will literally be able to walk to work (lol).

Also anyone have any idea whether 275s will fit on the front nismo rims without rubbing (stock height)?

I gotta admit, I laughed. They were talking about moving us to Frederick or Rockville which would have meant an actual commute but instead they actually picked pretty much the only place that's literally closer to me than my current office.

Honestly with a half mile commute to work, I'd ride my bike or walk. Not worth it to drive!

MyKindaGuise 12-17-2013 02:51 PM

Tires are at my house. Hopefully getting them all mounted tonight!

Yeah, terrible for the car!

My office is probably moving in the spring from Columbia to Owings Mills :|

Once the weather is nicer I will be walking for sure. Probably not so much in January when we move.

This is exceptionally funny because I used to live in the apartments right across the street from my current office. I moved down the road a bit...and the office is moving with me.

Did a bit more testing with launching tonight. Took it up to 3000rpm with no one else around at half clutch and dropped it and the whole rear end went nutso. First it swung right and without me adjusting the wheel swung back left (tires squealing) and then it jumped forward enough to scare me a little - almost felt like it was going to go airborne. Managed to shift just under the redline laughing like a lunatic and 2nd-4th were normal. Did this 3-4x before I got the hang of it and now I need gas. Looks like 3000rpm is the sweet spot.

*this was in a parking lot not a public road

m4a1mustang 12-17-2013 07:25 PM

Not sure why you are doing clutch drops. You're on street tires.

m4a1mustang 12-17-2013 07:28 PM

It's also cold, so if you're still on your summer tires you have little/no grip.

MightyBobo 12-17-2013 09:32 PM

Drove back to Buffalo on all seasons in my Silverado during the storm on Saturday, in 2WD. Who needs snow rubber?

People in Alaska, I suppose...

Gotcha. If you want to practice real launches quickly feather the clutch as you roll onto the throttle.

10s are nothing. :stirthepot:

a 10 second 1/4 is more impressive than I think most people realize. Takes quite a bit of work, power, parts, and practice.

Lol... depends on the car.

2013 GTR... 1/4 mile in 10.8 @ 125 mph

But not a whole lot to do in that car to get those kinds of times consistently. Kinda like a Ronco Rotisserie Oven. Just set it and forget it.

eastwest2300 12-18-2013 08:43 AM

GT-R is a beast.

Or a plain ole 5.0. Spend a few bucks on a blower and a set of ET streets and you're there. Hell they even get there NA (with a bit of weight reduction.)

The Z, though... yes 10s would be impressive. AFAIK the quickest 370 is running low 11s.

In which case, you could argue that the Z is a terrible platform compared to so many other choices.

Lol I know, what I meant was an out of the box car that doesn't cost a crapload of money that can run 10's.

Low 11's is pretty damn quick in a 370. Is that in a built 7AT?
