awesome, I can't wait to see it running 9s.

We may not see a 370 in the 9s for years. 9 seconds is rarified air coming from an inexpensive street car that doesn't have a huge aftermarket following.

true..

I wanted a good balance between street and track and I got what I wanted. I'm happy regardless. I wouldn't invest in something like a roll cage unless I were to decide to turn it into a dedicated track car (strip it down etc).

I don't really have a lot left that I want to do. Maybe an upgraded clutch or radiator. If the car will only run mid 11s with 265/305s than so be it.

Just don't get upset and obsessed trying to chase some ridiculous time like I did. Complete waste of time, money, and unnecessary stress.

yes, you are the person here who spent too much time and money stressing out over hitting an unreasonable time :|

Nah, I wouldn't. I'm getting out of the car exactly what I wanted to get out of it.

Unlikely unless he is on slicks. The Zs don't like to launch hard. Haven't see a 370 run 10s yet.

Hoping the diff mitigates this problem somewhat.

How much have you spent so far?

dmhenderson 12-16-2013 10:01 AM

More than I'd care to admit but not an embarrassing amount. My goal was never to build the world's fastest track car.

eastwest2300 12-16-2013 10:05 AM

At any rate, the car looks good, and you've invested in some serious parts, not the cheap sh1t thats out there, that some people "try" to pull off.

there's a lot more to it than just the differential.

Torsen's are iffy for launching anyways. Will do the job for a the casual running you'll be doing, but I wouldn't make launching a habit with it.

MightyBobo 12-16-2013 10:29 AM

Detroit locker is what he needed. :-p

have you seen what happens to the stock axles when you launch on slicks?

eastwest2300 12-16-2013 12:18 PM

I havent, what happens?

after a couple launches, you'll be towing the car home.

I'll just redirect all my torques to the front wheels and go FWD. It'll work in a pinch.

GM_Traitor3.5 12-17-2013 07:28 AM

Also I'm sure the stock rear end even with the Quaife diff will hold up to hard launches on drag radials too well..

Yes. I'm assuming anyone launching on slicks (or even DRs with this car) would be smart enough to have some spares on hand. :icon17:

I'm guessing mid 11s at best on street tires.

I would think even on good street tires and decent track prep, mid 11's would still be difficult as I'm sure wheelspin is likely going to be an issue.

For a newb, sure. For anyone with some experience I think you should be able to run mid 11s on 500whp. Better if you can hook up.

m4a1mustang 12-17-2013 07:41 AM

Now that I think about it, I'm probably being too generous. Here is the current list of top FI times:

eastwest2300 12-17-2013 07:45 AM

wow, no sh1t...

chieuxuan 12-17-2013 08:53 AM

The Z is not like those Civics with swaps and FI combine. If you want a ten second car, go buy a 91-95 hatchback civic then go from there.........VTAK POWARRRRRRRR

I think I'm going to take one of those classes that teaches you how to perfectly hard launch and race drive.

I'm so scared of hard launching the car. So easy to burn the hell out of the clutch if it doesn't grab right. The idea of revving the car to 4000RPM and just dropping the clutch worries the hell out of me.

b1adesofcha0s 12-17-2013 10:08 AM

They have classes for that?

The ones where it's an all-day thing you pay like $1000 and you get to drive exotics etc.

I'd rather do 1 on 1 instruction in my car. Lard launching my old sentra was easy (plus I wasn't worried about breaking it). Hard launching this thing - makes me nervous. I've only done it once or twice and I always say a short prayer before I do it. I'd just like to be more comfortable I guess.

Yeah, I don't care about driving 5 supercars one time. I wanna know how to maximize my car.

dmhenderson 12-17-2013 10:23 AM

I'll shop around. Maybe if enough people get interested, we could do a group buy thing.
Bear in mind I'm still relatively new to the world of sports cars.

You wouldn't want to do that, anyway. Not on street tires (you'll just spin) and not on anything else or you'll just break the rear end.
