so its still kinda sitting at home... somewhat broke lol |
I hear you, I went for an oil change two weeks ago, when I pulled and stop, everybody looked at like wtf dude, you need brakes.......lol.....noise doesn't bother me at all, it's just the compound that stick on the wheels is hard to take off. Some won't come off. Other than that, I love Carbotech pads.

Welp, tires ordered for the Z. Turns out the PSS 305 is really around a 315 which is just way too much on a 10" rim. Went 265/285 instead which should naturally dial out some understeer. Big front sway bar is going to help a lot with that as well. This car needs all the front grip it can get!

I'm looking forward to it. I'll probably put the MAZOC prep thread up in January. Have a few things to run by you and Steve. :tiphat: |

I thought about a 275/35 square setup but don't really want to fit the widest-spec on the front and the smallest-spec on the rear. That's going to lead to some funky sidewall behavior. I'm actually running 245 square on my winter wheels (base 18x8 and 18x9s) and don't particularly like the feel... the front sidewall rolls a lot more than the rear does. 265/35 and 285/35 should have roughly the same sidewall behavior front and rear. With the power you have I'd want to run more rear tire. 265/285 RE11s would probably be pretty good, however you might need more rear tire yet. 265/35 305/30 RE11s work fine, but you would need to work to get your balance closer to neutral (front/rear bar, alignment, etc). I think ideally I would run a 19x10 front and 19x11 rear. :icon17: |
Here is a Z with 265/285 Re11s. This one belongs to LunaZ

FWIW the PSS is going to look a little meatier. Both front Re11 and PSS have a 271mm section width, but the PSS with it's square shoulders has a full 10mm more measured tread width than the RE-11 (254 to 243ish).
The rear is similar. Roughly the same section width but the Super Sport has a measured tread width of around 285mm to the RE-11's 265ish. Now, there is no standard for measuring tread width, but this all means the PSS should be visually wider than the RE-11, all thanks to the square vs. round sidewall. |
This has given me some food for thought...My fronts are getting pretty low(3-4/32)...luckily im not driving the car so its not a concern but I am wondering if 275 is too much up front. The plan was to rotate me still meaty rears to the front and put either 275s or 305s in the rear. I just couldn't find much info on anyone with stock rays running 275/305. I would love to run 4 18x10.5 RFP1s or SA55Ms.

I'm gonna do tires in the spring. Not going to bother right now. Going to want the widest I can fit on those stock nismo rays.

If you are still on the Potenzas you can fit a 305 RE050A on the stock rear wheels. Quote:

PSS is a great choice. That's what I'd go with.
|
They had a $70 rebate promotion that ended yesterday. I'm sure it will be back in another month or two.
|
Cool beans! im looking at moving my Vreds up front then temporarily for sure...Hate running different tires. Then getting PSS 305's for the rear. This is going to be one meaty setup holy crap.
|
I probably wouldn't try the PSS on a 10" rim. They run way wider than anything else.
Dai and I were looking up reference material yesterday and he found this: michelin pss lots of pics 305 30 19 and 265 35 18 weight and fit - Corvette Forum It pretty much confirmed our suspicions that the PSS is super wide and is probably going to perform like poop when a 305 is mounted on a 10" rim. 10.5" would be in spec, but even on a 10.5 it's going to be super meat. 10"... no way. The Re11s run narrower and will work, though. |
For reference, this is a 275/35 on 19x9:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/--...0/IMG_1012.jpg Meat. I've found that with PSS, under 295 the sidewall is a little more rounded, but above 295 it *really* starts to square off. That's when you get the 295s fitting more like a 305 and the 305s more like a 315-320. |

Maybe ill look at 295/285s. I really want PSS tires for the bump in treadwear over the RE11s. Seriously good info. Glad I posted before I bought anything. |

This is what a 305/30/19 PSS looks like on a 10.5" rim: http://www.the370z.com/members/zero-...ec-16-2012.jpg (forum member "zero") |

*Sigh* Looks like the 285/35/19 might not be available anymore for the PSS. Talking to Tire Rack now... may end up having to go with the RE11s.

If they aren't available I'd do RE11 front & rear. |
I'll just shelve the discussion until springtime. No sense in worrying about it now.
|
I *could* try the 295/30. This is what it looks like on a 10" rim at stock ride height:
http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...ps84b5e041.jpg http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...pse4ca3ba5.jpg That's KaienZ34's car. Approximately 1/4" more fender gap than stock: http://stfoto.smugmug.com/Cars/2013-...MG_0077-X1.jpg http://stfoto.smugmug.com/Cars/2013-...MG_0064-X1.jpg |
Do it! 295s!!!!!!!!
|
Thing is, I don't really plan on lowering the car, so I'd have to live with the gap. I wish there were more people with pics of this setup... i know a few people have done it on the stock rays at stock height, but no pics!

Probably the RE11. Have always wanted to give them a try, anyway. |
TireRack got back to me. Even the 265/35 is being discontinued, they just happen to have them in stock. Looks like I'm switching to RE-11!
Edit: Might actually do the S-04. An improvement over the RE050A by quite a bit, but a small step down from the PSS (Always finishes #2). Would be a better DD tire than the RE-11... thinking thinking thinking! |
do it man, you already have 18s snow tires, you can use them for dd all year around
|
I have had my eyes on the S04s as well. They seem to be doing much better than the RE50s. If you get those I want a full review!
