Yeah, my GF fiancee (gotta be careful, there) was pretty excited about the night time one. She may have been slow, but she had a lot of fun, and she showed CONSIDERABLE improvement, so I was proud of her.

I think her average time went from 120 seconds down to 87?

Yeah I definitely noticed she picked up speed, and in that last race she did a pretty good job at looking behind for faster traffic before she turned in. Josh's wife on the other hand... CHOP CHOP CHOP!!! :bowrofl:

I found it fairly easy to navigate traffic to be honest, but I think having a bit of knowledge in Racecraft helped a LOT there.

I caught her getting a little sideways on turn 4 as I came up behind her, and it made me smile :)

Not sure about Rachel, I usually got by her fairly quickly lol, but I usually just assumed that the apex was unavailable if we were getting there simultaneously.

Both of them were scared of the brakes a bit - they'd cruise at a speed that DIDN'T involve the brakes much at all, so when they learn to trust them, they'll be better.

b1adesofcha0s 04-29-2013 05:30 PM

So can we start planning the next one now?

I have plenty of race craft knowledge too. Just happens that I caught her at bad spots and got chopped for the back half of the track. Even josh told me he was mad at her lololol.

Made two three wide passes in earlier runs that were super fun.

That's one reason I hope we all weigh in and run ballast next time. Instead of driving we'll race in big packs which will be super fun.

Yeah those big 3+ passes were a lot of fun haha.

You're lucky they black flagged me (for god knows why) :shakes head: else I would have had it.

Coulda, shoulda, but didn't :-)

Helps when you weigh 50lbs wet, too haha. How much DO you weigh, anyway? Besides, time trials aren't racing, you know that...

I won every event in our group, including the "race". So not even going by time trials number either considering that lap was in the last (overcrowded) race.

And weight doesn't even matter considering I wasn't the lightest out there... So if you want to use that excuse, even I shouldn't have won.

m4a1mustang 04-29-2013 08:47 PM

Puhlease. Weight matters.

When we run with ballast and equal race weights we'll see who the best racer is. :)

XwChriswX 04-29-2013 08:52 PM

If that's the case, I can think of at least 5 people who should have been at the top of the running order based on weight, that were no where near it... Hmmm...

And those who have a lot more experience that were not either... Hmmmm

Lol, you threw the gauntlet down, light weight, don't expect I won't throw it right back :-)

Weight matters EVERYTHING in those buckets, what on earth are you talking about? Have you been to SPK or karted before, or was this your first time?

Just because you weren't the lightest out there doesn't mean the lighter people were quite as competitive as you or I were, so your comparison is illogical...

No, fgt, no one is saying you don't lack skill. You ARE fast. But don't think for a second weight didn't matter. If I wasn't 100lbs up on you you bet your *** we would have been wheel to wheel. You were easily 10 mph faster than me on the straights. :driving:

Weight plus skill kid. It's not JUST weight, jeeze.

Who had a lot more experience than you, and were lighter than you?

Power to weight ratio doesn't matter, Steve. Especially in a motor that when bogged, makes **** for power. You shh now.

The lighter the vehicle and the less power it makes means weight means even LESS! Just MOAR DOWN FORCE!

They had tons of weights in the race control office next to the track. If you watched the "pro" drivers they would all add their requisite ballast to their karts before going on track.

What gauntlet did I throw?

Yes I've karted plenty of times before, that's why I enjoy doing it.

How is it illogical? If the lighter person pushed more, they would have beaten me. So it's perfectly logical. So it's not A lightweight or B skill. It's a combination of Both.

I'm not saying weight doesn't matter at all. I'm saying that you point me out as being "lightweight" when there were lighter people that were not surpassing my times. So it's not Just about weight.

I would say Josh was around my weight class, and I assume with the events you guys have done, he has a lot more "racing/High performance" driving than me. Yes I know karting is a whole nother realm, but the same ideals still apply.

Yes, most of the cars we ran had trap doors on the left side to add ballast. That's what all the super cool douches were doing in the racing suits so they were as close to equal weight as they could be.

I wasn't even watching them. Sweet, fair competition is always good.

But weight doesn't matter, so why bother.

m4a1mustang 04-29-2013 09:02 PM

For ***** and giggles,

the RX7 carts are rougly 240lbs with 9 hp.

With a 150 lb driver that's 43.3 lbs per HP

With a 250lb driver that's 54.44 lbs per hp.

Not to mention the braking and cornering advantage with less weight to hustle around.

m4a1mustang 04-29-2013 09:03 PM

@Chris, no one ever said the reason you were fast was only because of weight. The only reason we fast fatties couldn't keep up with you, though, is because of weight. I know I can definitely run up there with you if we had similar race weights, because we're good drivers. Same with Bobo, Ron, etc. It will be a really good race next time.

The heavier people are the only one saying I was fast because I am light(er) weight. So yeah, that's what it's sounding like. :icon17:

lol so rather than accept you're experience may be the reason you won vs some lighter people... you derail it all by saying something like weight not mattering? :icon17:

in any case, there are far to many variables. Not only can there be variations in weight, but we all know no kart is alike. Some may have better tuning, more/less gas, newer tires, better brakes.

I got in one cart and the brakes were awesome... the last kart had almost nothing. You could also tell one being more *** happy then another...

Masa 04-29-2013 09:06 PM

Only one way to settle this, lets all go to SPK right now and do night enduro race in the rain. Fgts.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter. I'm saying that other people are saying I only did "better" because I am lighter than them... Well there were people lighter than me, so by their logic, I should have not done as well...

I know all too well the truths about karting thanks to my experience with them. But you are exactly correct there, no 2 karts are the same. No matter how much you try to make the "weight factor" as balanced as you can.

I wish I could have Kart 29 all day. That thing had some power! I posted my best time of 64.2 on that one lol.

m4a1mustang 04-29-2013 09:11 PM

No one is saying you did better because of weight. I'm saying I was not up there with you because of my weight disadvantage. I know I can wheel it and can run up front in equal equipment.

Whatever, though. We'll sort it all out next time.
