MAZOC 2013 [SUNDAY] Caravan to ZDayZ - Register Here!!!
Work In Progress: I'll be adding more to this thread over the coming days. I should have a registration link up and running shortly. This is for the SUNDAY Caravan... there MAY be a second caravan for later in the week if there is another group of Mazoc members that doesn't plan on being at ZDayZ for the full week. If so, I'm going to need a volunteer to lead that Caravan and coordinate the date and time with moi. LMK.
And as some of you vets have probably figured out, I just copy, paste, and modify the cruise thread from the year before every time, so it reads kind of funny. --------------------- Fellow Mid-A'ers... this is the thread for the SUNDAY caravan to ZDayZ. That's right, a group of us are leaving on Sunday this year instead of Tuesday like we did last year... for a full week in Fontana! If you are participating in the Caravan down to ZDayZ from the NOVA Starbucks meetup spot, please fill out the following form to register: Registration Link To Be Added Soon I'll update this post with the list of participants and will add other Caravan details over the weekend, but for now, get registered! Quote:
I think I speak for all of us when I say that, as a group, we take pride in knowing that we aren't viewed as four-wheeled hooligans because we respect the law and conduct ourselves in a mature and civilized matter. Be it at our weekly Starbucks meets, our dinner events like GB Annapolis, or any other random events we may have, we always conduct ourselves in a way that reflects positively on the group. This cruise will be no different. As nice at it might be to fly down Highway 81 at high speed, we will be obeying all posted limits (we average around 5 over) and respecting the rule of law. The highways we will be travelling are very highly policed, and as a group of hot sports cars we will be attracting a lot of attention. So, we'll take it slow and enjoy the drive. 81 is a fast highway, and we'll probably be passed by numerous speeders, but relax and enjoy the scenery (it's a beautiful drive) and we'll all make it to the Resort in one piece! A few key points to consider (AKA Cruise Rules and Guidelines):
Lastly, if you aren't willing to adhere to the cruise rules no one is forcing you to cruise with us. If you are planning on driving like a tool we don't want you in our group... plain and simple. Thanks for your cooperation! And now, on to the details of the cruise: Caravan Details Where: We will meet at the Fair Lakes Starbucks (our Saturday meeting spot) When: Everyone should shoot on arriving between 5:30AM and 5:45 AM on Sunday, May 12th. We will start the Caravan to ZDayZ at approximately 6AM. The Route: ZDAYZ Caravan Route - Google Maps I will update this section later with details on planned stops. This is our FOURTH go at this Caravan so I've got a SUPERBLY BRILLIANT handle on it now. Food/Drink Situation This section will be updated as it gets closer to event time I am sure. It's open for discussion. As most of you know, ZDayZ provides dinner for us on Friday/Saturday nights. We're on our own for the rest of the meals. Last year we did most of our eating at Jon's cabin. We all brought our own food to grill on the patio. I suspect it will be the same this year -- we all bring a bunch of food for ourselves and end up sharing because we all brought a sh*t ton of food! So, if you want to grill, plan on bringing meats, breads, condiments, etc. If yo have a portable grill you are willing to bring PLEASE LET US KNOW! Also, bring beer. You don't want to not bring beer!!! Other stuff you probably want to bring Obviously space is limited in our cars so we need to be very space conscious when we pack. I figured it might be a good idea to bring up some things that you definitely want to bring with you:
If anyone has anything else that one could easily forget to pack let me know and I'll put it on the list. Of course, if you happen to drive one blue Maxima, space is unlimited. Keep an eye on this thread, guys, as I'll be updating it frequently! For those of you joining us from outside of MAZOC: If you are planning on participating in the caravan but are not from the area and need a place to stay on Monday night, here are some of the hotels nearest to our meeting location: Hyatt Fair Lakes: Fairfax Hotels- Hyatt Fairfax at Fair Lakes- Northern Virginia Hotel this one is the closest to the meet location... less than 1/4 mile away. Residence Inn Fair Lakes: Residence Inn Fairfax VA hotel | Extended stay hotel in Fairfax VA | Fairfax hotel near Dulles Airport also very close... 2-3 minutes away |
hmmmmmm, I might be caravaning on the way back.
|
We caravan to the cracker barrel in Asheville on the way back, then split up after breakfast.

We are going down to the resort for an entire week this year, because last year I went down alone for the whole week and had the resort (and those wonderful roads) all to myself for a few days. Track Days is different. That is circuit driving, HPDE, tracking the Z. And that's also something I would highly recommend at some point. The Z is very composed on the track, although I've heard it gets spikier when you start pushing it to its highest performance limits. |
Bump.

If you plan on driving down on Sunday with the caravan, please post here so I can add yo to the list.
|
Well done Steve! Great organization :D
|
What time do you plan on leaving Fontana on Sunday morning to head to Ashville? I may be interested in coming back some of the way with the group, but I am not leaving VA until Tuesday evening.
|
I'm in.....now that I have my reservations confirmed.
|
I will be participating in the Sunday caravan. Gotta make sure 660 is open and ready for the masses as soon as they start to arrive!
|
I'm good for this one as well. Finals are over the previous week, so no obstructions.
|
I'm in for the caravan with my doggies
|
Great, I'll update the list. Registration form is still down so don't worry about that right now. Just post in the thread if you're in.

Time to discuss member contributions and stuff that you should bring.
Required Items - Folding chair (so you have a guaranteed place to sit) - Bug spray (trust me) Recommended Items - 1-2 quarts of oil just in case you burn any during the trip - Extra pair of shoes - Rain gear - Flashlight - Basic tool kit (you should at least have all you need to remove a wheel in order to repair a punctured tire) - Tire repair kit - First aid kit - Bottled water / snacks to keep in the car |
Food
As many of you know, Jon and Pat aren't attending this year. Thankfully they were able to transfer their cabin to Aniceh, so we will still have full access to 660... the MAZOC hub. Like all previous ZDayZ, we all pitch in and contribute to the food situation. If you are hanging out with us the whole time, please plan to pitch in with food or other supplies. We don't like free rides. The plan right now is for dinner at the cabin on Sunday-Thursday, with either Monday or Tuesday at the Wilwood Grill. Friday and Saturday dinners are provided by the resort and are included in your ZDayZ registration. Lunch will be at the cabin Monday-Saturday. For breakfast on Monday-Saturday we typically meet up early at the Mountview Restaurant (located in the Lodge) for their breakfast buffet. Sunday Dinner Jon and Pat always provided a steak dinner for everyone that cruised down with the main caravan. Since they aren't going to be here this year I'll be taking over. Steak + baked potato + other sides. Monday - Thursday Dinners One of these nights we'll eat at the Wilwood Grill. Shado and his mom will be making chicken tenders and german potato salad one night. Dana will be making meatloaf one night. That leaves one extra night we need to account for. Lunches I'm thinking KISS. Burgers, dogs, brats, etc. Typical lunch bbq fares. What we need people to bring Hotdog and hamburger buns Burgers Dogs Brats Chips Sides (baked beans etc) Bottled Water Soda Beer Paper Plates Napkins Plastic utensils Condiments CHARCOAL & Lighter fluid I plan on bringing two 18" charcoal grills down which should be enough for all of us. I *should* be able to fit both in the Z, if not I might need to transfer one to another car. I definitely need people to pitch in on the charcoal. DISCUSS If you have dietary restrictions please post so we can accommodate. If you want to take over the open meal night, let us know. |
I can pitch in for:
Hotdog & Hamburger buns Paper plates & utensils The trunk in my car is/has a subwoofer.....do you think a case of bottled water will ruin it? If not, I can bring a case. |
You can probably fit a case on your passenger floor board if you are riding solo.
|
BTW, there is a grocery store ~30 minutes away so we can always make a mid-week run out for more supplies.

I'll be rolling into Fontana on Wednesday. Those of you that are already there can PM me with specific requests for me to bring items in. I will have the Z, so I can't bring your recliner down, so don't ask. ;)
Since we don't get good cell phone reception there (I consider that a Perk!), you can hit me up on the forum. I'll be happy to bring whatever fits. Yes, alcohol will fit, even if I have to get rid of some other items. I plan on bringing beer (any preference?), since I saw the note that “Also, bring beer. You don't want to not bring beer!!!”. |
I'm happy to take dinner responsibility for the remaining night, but I'd likely make fish since I'm pescatarian, and I need to know if that's agreeable to enough of the group. I just need to know how many people to expect to feed so I bring enough. I also plan on bringing a Costco box of Boca burgers, some American cheese and a bunch of hamburger buns. I have two 20-lb bags of charcoal, and I should be able to bring at least one.
I also have a pretty good quantity of paper plates and plastic utensils and cups which I'd be happy to bring. I'll try and do a dry run of my packing to determine exactly how much I can contribute. |
I think I usually bring dogs, brats, burgers and some condiments for 1-2 lunches or dinners.
Last year I thought we kind of divided up stuff at the grocery store in the parking lot then knocked out the shopping. |
Since I've been told the cabins have a kitchen, I will pick up supplies to make Beef Stroganoff one night as another option? W. Corn and biscuits.
I can wait until we get there to run to that store to pick up the meat. Either that, or just slice some off of Jay. :stirthepot: |
