I got mine from JoeBobOutfitters.com for around $80, that's the cheapest I found. They are Magpul MBUS Gen 2 sights.


I've seen others, but they are called Magpul "PTS" sights, be careful because they are the lower quality "airsoft" versions.

The MBUS sights are about as cheap as quality flip-up sights get. They're not as durable as, say, Troys, but they're durable enough for backup sights and they are sufficiently accurate. I have a rear Gen II on an SBR and I like it a lot. Easier to deploy and retract than the Troy, although I don't do that enough for that to be a big deal.



Buy from a reputable reseller. Prices are pretty standardized and don't vary by more than a few bucks from place to place. IMHO, SKD Tactical is an excellent place to buy this kind of stuff. VERY fast shipping and they are utterly reliable.

Sometime in 2012 I am going to put a nice optic on my AR. I plan on using the MBUS backup.

Right now I am using a PSA carry handle which works 100% fine for me... but ultimately I want to step it up.

I highly recommend the Aimpoint PRO. At $400, it's got to be the most cost-effective high-quality optic available. I don't particularly care for the Aimpoint T-1's on my rifles pictured above. I do have a few Eotechs and I like the XPS/EXPS series, although I must say that I have come to prefer the single-dot reticle on the Aimpoint PRO.

Funny you should mention that. The Aimpoint PRO is the one I've been keeping an eye on. Every now and then PSA puts them on sale for under $400. I'll probably pick one up the next time I see a good deal.

Agreed, not the best quality, and they are polymer, but as backup sights they do serve the purpose.

My primary is a red-dot but should it fail, I can pull it off and go iron sights.

Or even just flip them up, as they co-witness, so I can use them with the red-dot still mounted.

So my new rifle took a big wet crap on me over the weekend

Picked it up from the gunsmith on Saturday, after he pinned the barrel and did the upper build for me, and polished the feed ramps.

So I took it to the range on Sunday to test fire and zero the iron sights, before zeroing the red-dot.

Got the first round off and was very surprised the sights were almost spot-on zero.

Pulled the trigger a second time.. and... mis-fire...
Waited 30 seconds, tap, rack, and fired again.. right on target

Went to fire again.. and mis-fire.. WTF?

Well turns out it was not cycling, so after a little diagnosis I find out the gas system is completely blocked, and no gas was being return to recock the action

I spoke to the gunsmith, who says he test fired it before I picked it up.
After he test fired it, he normally removes one screw at a time on the gas block to add loctite. Then leaves it laying down on a bench to set.

I'm told that after he put the loctite on the day before I picked it up, someone moved it and the loctite had probably got into the gas system and set hard.

He was really good about wanting to fix it for me, saying he would meet me Sunday even though the store was closed, so he could fix it.
As he's going to Delaware for the week, but I had plans in the afternoon, so I couldn't get it fixed.

Sorry that happened...

It's not a big deal to unpin a gas block, but Rocksett (or other high temp loctite, which surely he used on the gas block) is a bugger to undo. Usually keeping the screws from falling out only requires just the smalled dab of Rocksett.

I'd be interested to hear how he fixes the problem. I hope it all goes well.

It's hard to tell, but my guess is the gas block got moved and is mis-aligned.

I find it hard to believe he used that much loctite that it blocked the hole or tube LOL
