I have the Remington 870, (Express Synthetic).. I had to special order mine from one of the dealers around here, Im pretty sure you dont have to wait 7 days, you will do your normal background check paperwork with the NICS section of the FBI at the time of purchase.

I've mentioned before my skepticism about recent and current SIG firearms. While earlier versions (German) are superb, reliable weapons, the new SigArms paradigm is quite suspect in the view of many, many department armorers.
I saw a thread on another sight that illustrates another direction relative to SIG corporate concept and IMHO is even more puzzling to me than their often-reported current corner cutting in design and relative lack of quality control. Admittedly, I view firearms as tools, not as art, but the Sig MasterShop has gone beyond my ability to comprehend their overall corporate policy. I think it's illustrative of Sig's new corporate direction and represents a reason I wouldn't buy a current Sig firearm. I would rather have one of these than a painting of Elvis on black velvet, but still..... And the classic... |

LOL, my money says you're a Glock fanboy
There's a reason many forces & spec-ops, and ex-military (myself), choose Sig. Besides, if a problem occurs with a firearm, I can always beat them with a heavy steel Sig, not a polymer Glock

As to Special Forces, the SEALs have been issued Sig P226 since 1986, but they're not buying new versions, continuing to use the ones in inventory. Individual units can use whatever they want, but the current acquisition trend is toward the HK USP in .45. Rangers are still using the M9, Delta, I don't know but Larry Vickers at a course last year said they're abandoning the Sig in droves. He indicated that they're moving toward Glocks, but I take that with a grain of salt because he IS a Glock fanboy (and has nothing good to say about Sigs other than their illustrious history). Anyway, you can't use agency purchases as an indicator of quality, only of contracting price. A perfect example of that was the military pistol trials in 1985. Sig P226 actually won that competition by a handy margin but the Beretta was selected on the basis of slightly lower cost and the fact that they agreed to build them in the US. Most US forces including SEALs went with the M9, but in high round-count shooting such as the SEALs do, the Beretta suffered occasional slide-stop failures where the slide would fly off and hit the shooter in the jaw. It lead to the old saying "You're not a real SEAL until you've tasted Italian steel". That was the point at which they switched over to the P226 as their issue weapon. The more recent move toward HK has been precisely because of skepticism about current Sigs. (edited to add info from a buddy I called this morning. He is/was a Navy SEAL, moved up to SOCOM and was there until he retired two years ago.) Last edited by MacCool; 09-24-2011 at 02:00 PM. |

I have an 870 Express that I added a Knoxx Specops stock to. It's gobs of fun. I love it.
I took the AR to the range today. The sightmark RDS is a POS but otherwise it shoots great. Can't wait to get it sighted in with the irons and spend more quality time with it... all I was really doing today was shooting in the general vicinity of a target and making sure everything functioned properly. Also tried some Sellier & Bellot 9mm FMJ (124gr) today and found that it didn't reliably fire in the Ruger LC9 but seemed to shoot fine out of my G26. Seems to have a pretty hard primer

As for the 870, I think that may be my next purchase LOL Not sure I need a scope on it for anything less than 10yrds, and 00-shot for home defense.
