dont know if yall have an Academy sports and outdoors up there but i just checked the sunday paper and they have 223 on sale for 5.99 a box and its brass not steel case.

So I'm about to embark on a big AR15 research project. Trying to decide if I should buy a complete gun or try to put one together myself. I just want a basic, reliable AR that I can shoot a lot and rely on to always be there for me if I need it. Trying to keep it at $1,000 or less. I'll add tacticool stuff to it later if I so desire, but right now I just want function.

build it yourself. Its easy and then you get to choose your parts.

Mine, which is not shown in the pics was all premo parts, and came to a bit more than your budget. If I were to buy it assembled it would be around 1800...
